France, England and all the other countries that say they support the establishment of a "palestinian" state are not doing this out of the kindness of their hearts. Look at what's happening in Marseilles, for instance. Half the city has been trashed by arabs. But they are backing a "palestinian" state because there is a payback for them somewhere down the line. The Palestinians can't get what they want from negotiations with Israel so they want the Quartet to do it for them. They want the Quartet to recognize their version of Palestine and then boycott and sanction Israel so that Israel will hand over the territory. If the Quartet doesn't go along then the Palestinians will threaten an intifada and try to draw other Arab states into war against Israel. What's implicit here is that if the Quartet doesn't go along then terror can be turned against it too. That is why the Quartet is so anxious to please and so ready for Israel to concede and take risks.

It's all posturing and everyone knows that without the U.S. it means nothing. There is an election campaign going on folks and no U.S. candidate will ever vote for an anti Israel or pro Palestinian resolution during a presidential election campaign. That's political science 101. Europe is a basket case economically and has its own problems to worry about. Their empty rhetoric regarding Palestine is a pathetic attempt to appear relevant. and talk. The whole "peace process" (not sure why it is called a peace process) since the Oslo Accord is based on negotiations how on earth would recognizing a Palestinian State improve negotiations?
