So, lets presume a liberalish democracy rises in Syria why would it stop seeking the Golan in exchange for formal peace with Israel? The author doesn't make that clear.

The article tends to reinforce some thoughts concerning Turkey based on the assertion of Erdogans desire to unite with Assad against Israel to get dominance in the Arab Muslim world. The current warning of Erdogan to Israel concerning the stopping of the new Gaza flotilla supports these thoughts. The suspicion is that Turkey is preparing to attack Israel with ally Syria and Hezbolah as an excuse to Israel's stopping the flotilla. The present termoil in Syria has caused Turkey to delay sending the flotilla to Gaza. If the Asssad regime is overthrown Erdogan will probably not launch an attack and may even cancel the flotilla.
