1. How many innocent ...
Peter   (04.24.11)
It's always sad when someone dies, but it's also sad to see the hypocrisy and blindness sometimes shown How many innocent Palestinians have been shot by the IDF because of alleged 'suspicious movements'? What goes around comes around. by Israeli politicians. They just need to ask themslves what would have happened if a group of armed Palestinians decided they wanted to drive into Israel to pray withoutasking permission from the Israeli authorities. They'd be lucky if any of them got out alive.
2. Settlers are not above the law!
Sarah ,   Israel   (04.24.11)
Why does the Governement, Barak included, let settlers think they're above the law? No Israeli citizen in his right mind would enter Area A without consulting first with the IDF! These settlers were foolish enough to think they could dissrespect the law - that is the core problem.
3. Put a sock in it, Bibi
Johnboy   (04.24.11)
If the position had been reversed you would not have hestitated for a SECOND before congratulating any IDF soldier for shooting up a car full of "suspicious" Palestinians.
4. Never throw rocks at people with guns
Sean Green ,   Pasadena, USA   (04.24.11)
Palestinians get shot at all the time for that. Tasers man. They are non lethal.
5. Netanyahu makes another speech.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (04.24.11)
Blah, blah, blah. Nu, Mr PM, what are you going to DO??? Just blah, blah, blah as usual??? Or will you actually DO SOMETHING? That was a rhetorical question, of course, since we all know NOTHING will be done. There will be no consequences to the PA, the failed policy of the past 20 yrs will continue as if nothing had happened. Netanyahu & the Likud are a phoney right-wing gov't. - nothing but BS rhetoric.
6. "Heavy hand"?!?!? Is Bibi smoking pot?
Al Levy ,   Toronto   (04.25.11)
Since when has the PA taken any steps against any Palestinian who murdered Israelis? I don't recall ever reading about it, and a quick Google now came up blank. We know that there are indeed Israelis in Israeli jails for killing Palestinians, but we also know that the Palestinians have legal standards that are far below those of the civilized world. They have the death sentence and use it; they have families who execute their own women and daughters; they have killed thousands of "collaborators" without trials. Why would Bibi make such a silly comment expecting justice from the Palestinians, whose entire history is bereft of it?
7. It's ok, it's just hypocrisy
Mark Parity ,   Phoenix, USA   (04.24.11)
When the palestinian police shoot innocent Jews, it's considered ok. Israeli police do not shoot Palestinians. Israeli civilians do not shoot Palestinians. No, in fact other than IDF responses to TERRORIST ATTACKS the Israelis don't kill anyone. Sadly those same TERRORIST ATTACKS are Palestinians killing innocent Israelis. Just like they did yesterday. There's your comparison. Palestinians kill innocent people all the time. They commit terrorist acts all the time. Now what is it that BiBi's speech is supposed to cure?
8. Heinous act ?
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (04.24.11)
We heard you talk, Bibi too many times to bare...But your actions are only a "slap on the wrist". It is up to you to put a stop to this endless bloodshed of our innocent people...You are enabling this by your inaction..Lip service dissapears into the thin air, but the masacres not only cintinue, but intensifying...Get you blindfold off and look the truth in the "eye"... Put the interest of Israel First and Foremost. It is the best and Politcs and one you were elected to do ! It Will earn you Respect of your allies and adversaries. Listen to your people and use all the current and past historical facts about these so-called pali people..They are nothing, but a pseudo nation. We will not commit suicide by helping them to get a state....
9. Look at it this way....
dave berg ,   usa   (04.24.11)
Maybe the Palestinian policemen were afraid that these settlers had come to exact a "price tag" against the local people. If the Israelis ran a checkpoint and were shot, isn't this exactly what Israeli soldiers do to Pals who run checkpoints or disobey them? After all the attacks against Pals by settlers, shouldn't the Palestinian police be wary of settlers who invade without coordinating with their own army and the Palestinian police?
10. PALESTINIAN
NANCY ,   OKLAHOMA, US   (04.24.11)
ATLEAST THE PRIME MINISTER CAN STAND UP AND CALL IT FOR WHAT IT REALLY IS A TERRORIST ATTACK. WE NEED HIM OVER HERE IN AMERICA. UNLIKE WHAT WE HAVE FOR A PRESIDENT B.O.
11. empty words from an empty person
chaim.s ,   54th st. brooklyn ny   (04.24.11)
Bibi, please just shut up,you are the laughing stock of the middle east, the arabs and even your own citrizens have lost all respect for you,you are a spineless feckless coward, your words are taken as seriously as one would take the words of a drunken bum passed out on the gutters of tel-aviv
12. PA police no different than any other PA.
Israeli 2   (04.24.11)
Bibi, Barak and IDF made statements which are an enormous mistake. GET RID OF THE KNESSET!
13. Excellent talkback #5!
israeli 2   (04.25.11)
YNet did not publish mine for some reason or other but it was similar. You deserve a "thank you" vote from me.
14. Yawn....
bob ,   usa   (04.24.11)
So the oppressors and the terrorists are killing each other again. Wake me up in 50 years when everyone gets tired on all the violence. Hopefully there will be a few rational people still alive who can piece things together.
15. Sit back and laugh
Humazah ,   Holyland   (04.24.11)
its a terrorist attack when 2 people die but its justified when 2000 die (Y)
16. Joseph's Tomb
Stephen JF ,   London UK   (04.24.11)
In Rabin's speech to the Knesset on 5th October 1995 following the interim agreement of 28 September 05 he said "We have found a solution to the matter of Joseph's Tomb in Nablus. As is known, the students of the yeshiva and their teachers at Joseph's Tomb are there only during the day and do not remain there at night. The current agreement will enable students to travel daily to the Tomb. The inside of the Tomb will be guarded by armed Israelis. The area will be guarded by the Palestinian Police according to the currently existing format.."
17. Bad photograph of Bibi
Moragh   (04.24.11)
He looks demon-posessed in that picture!
18. There's only one solution to all this Bibi
Michael   (04.24.11)
Free Arab occupied Yehuda and Shomron!
19. punishment
jerry   (04.24.11)
not to punish the murderers of unarmed praying civilians - Ehud Barak style - will lead to our demise. Hopefully it is not too late....
20. Safe facilities
REE ,   Brampton, Ontario   (04.24.11)
Visits must be authorized. Getting in unauthorized entry invites high risk of such loss of life and limbs from preventive (re)actions against terroristic acts, spyage. PA must provide facilities for safe and secure experience for pilgrims - doing so PA must impose appropriate entry fee to build and maintain such facilities.
21. #2, Sarah, I agree 100 percent.
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.25.11)
Mexicans get shot at when they try to enter Texas or California illegally. I am sorry for the victim and his family, but those 15 Haredim had no right to travel to that area without a permission, without passports. A border is there to enforce passage limitations and violators are trespassing at their own risk.
22. innocent jews
denis mulheron ,   brisbane/australia   (04.25.11)
there is no such person as an innocent jew ,jews invaded and took by force palestine of the palestinian peopke and for over 60 years have done terrible things to them. on david duke vidio a jew soldier shoots a 13 year old palestinian girl on her way to school ,on jew watcht 200 war criminals name rank photo guilty of murdering lebanese and palestinian civillians only peace when jews give back stolen arab land
23. Do you believe the professional arab terrorists? Gullible +
Get Real ,   Israel   (04.25.11)
naive + judgemental = unwise Considering that the PA and other "Palestinian" "governments" of the past have accused Israel of everything from viagra in the water to releasing sharks in their areas....youd better take this terror sympathizing governor at face value. Not worth much.
24. Here's how the Palestinians will view it
Basil ,   Morgantown,USA   (04.25.11)
There is no one Palestinian opinion. Many will think from what I know that they did not get permission and there is a lot of settler-palestinian fighting in the Nablus area. The settlers didn't stop at a check point, the policeman fired. Perhaps, the settlers panicked as they were in foreign terrain and didn't expect to be stopped, but they were in PA areas. Most Palestinians have no problems with the Jewish religion, but some vandals attacked the tomb because though in theory they revere Joseph, too, so they are angry with their situation and the oppression and occupation that some will profane their own religion in anger. I think that it's sad a father of four was killed. The IDF and PA need to work on letting more visits to the tomb occur, but settlers can't just ignore the PA's existence.
25. Why not solve the problem?
Basil ,   Morgantown, USA   (04.25.11)
Why not have a more regular prayer access for settlers without them simply going without alerting anyone. They are supposed to tell the IDF and PA. Why not coordinate more between the IDF and PA so people can have weekly access and have the religious agree to adhere to that?
26. #14, #15
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.25.11)
Correction: There is no oppressor. It is Israel defending itself. Remember who began all the wars? Who sends suicide bombers? Who shoots rockets? All three of these actions mainly target civilians.
27. gid weittz
mohson   (04.25.11)
Gidi weitz wrote a complimentary article on olmert in his investigatory expose of organised crime and military figures years ago. There is a coincidence in that the article comes out 1 month he says before olmert testifies in his own trial. In the article, he reports that general gandhi who was a target described olmert as a military deserter who didn't do or complete his reserve duty. In
28. never mind hand him over
alexi   (04.25.11)
who cares about what abbas might do with the PA officer who killed the israeli. Hand him over immediately with all of his buddies in his jeep to the idf and within 24 hours. I know idf is trying to prevent a massive explosion on both sides but it wasn't just an israeli who was gunned down. It was israel. Hand him over -abbas- or else.
29. bibis rhetoric is that of a terrorist...
eporue ,   europe   (04.25.11)
to not condemn this illegal entry, and to not remind people of getting their permits for area a is totally irresponsible - in fact its sick... whether the shooting was "justified" or not, is another thing... there was no condemnation for the shooting at the checkpoints, when someone with a coke can - and that was all he had - was killed... also, he didnt condemn in any way the killing of the man in his bed, when his house was raided, to find someone else... bibi speaks and acts like a terrorist leader...
30. This event sounds like cold blooded murder to me.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (04.25.11)
While those youths were totally out of order by not following due process, the incident does not merit killing any of them. IF they were legitimately challenged about their presence, it was clear they were unarmed. When warning shots were fired, they ran away, not shoot back. They were not so stupid to pelt armed Pals police so that statement is very suspect. There was an IDF post nearby. The Pals police had options. Either call the IDF and tell them to come and deal with their people or arrest them. The Pals police had already chased them as they were on the run. That was cold blooded murder. With regard to visits once per month when so many are inclined to visit - all I can say is that the Pals should also be allowed to visit the al Aqsa mosk once per month as well.
