1. Negotiate the Hamas way: put Pal prisoners in the dark
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (04.28.11)
It's time to impose the exact same conditions on all Palestinian prisoners. They should get the exact same treatment as Gilad Shalit gets from Hamas. And now not just Hamas and Jihad prisoners, but all Fatah prisoners as well: -solitary confinement 24/7 -zero communication with the outside world - a total blackout (no calls, no letters, no visitors, no lawyers, no red cross, no nothing) -immediate cessation of all prisoner benefits (most people don't know Pal prisoners in Israeli jails get to pray together, take classes, earn university degrees, etc). Put them all in the dark. Leave them there. Yes, it's against international law, but so what? The international community accepts it from the Palestinians. If they don't like it, then Israel will live the darkness within one minute of the confirmation that Red Cross officials have visited Gilad Shalit - as is demanded by international law.
2. #1: you're assuming Hamas would care.
Joe ,   St Louis USA   (04.28.11)
3. slight correction to #1
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (04.28.11)
I obviously meant that Israel will lift the darkness...
4. the unity deal might be bad for the pal state, but maybe not
eporue ,   europe   (04.28.11)
for gilad... it looks a bit indecent, to (internationally) claim to be fit for a state, and at the other hand being the kidnapper... i do believe, hamas wants gilad swapped now - more than before... there might be another "window of opportunity" - this time for gilad... and again, bibi will do everything, to miss it, and pull the wool over you all "hamas doesnt talk", as in "abbas doesnt talk"...
5. Mr Shalit is probably wrong.
Li ,   USA   (04.28.11)
Now there will be real pressure from the Palestinian side to free him. This is probably a very positive thing.
6. Everyone including Shalit's father knows Hamas terms
lydia ,   Brisbane   (04.28.11)
The terms under which Hamas will release Shalit. is well known. Israel Cast Lead, Gaza siege its continued recatricant to Int. Law and down right duplicity. as well as abduction, kidnapping and murder of Palestinians at home and overseas should not be rewarded.by anything less than Israel's full compliance to the stipulated terms
7. Shalit is a POW captured in occupied Palestinian territory
christianpalestinian ,   las vegas   (04.28.11)
Israel must come to their senses and make a deal for Shalit and also make a peace deal with the Palestinian people. With justice comes peace.
8. #1, 2 wrongs don't make a right.
yehuda ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.28.11)
Hamas is Islamic Jihad terror 100% and is out to destroy Israel and every Jew all around the world, not just in Israel. Sorry to say but Gilad is only being used for Hamas's psychological terror against not only his parents but against every Jew and they do not want this to end. One can not negotiate with death (Hamas) and expect to come out whole and free.
9. Dear Gilad`s father ,
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.28.11)
The ball is in the court of your government and not in Hamas' court.
10. To the Hamas
Josh   (04.28.11)
If Moses is in fact your prophet and Moses forbid kidnapping, how can you hold onto a person that long. Set him free. It wasn't his choice to server, he was obligated to. Do what is righteous in Allahs eyes and do not punish the man any longer. Set him free and Allah will see His will be done. A prophet speaks the words of Allah and Moses spoke NO KIDNAPPING.
11. #7
A Shvitzer ,   Israel   (04.28.11)
You are wrong. Gilad Shalit was captured in ISRAEL on the ISRAELI side of the border.Get your facts right.
12. Yehuda #8 - I'm not calling for negotiations
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (04.28.11)
My demand to impose a total blackout on Pal prisoners is a move to have the Palestinian people put pressure on their leaders. The thousands of Pal prisoners in Israeli jails (many of them convicted mass murderers, in case anybody forgot) enjoy family visits, visits with lawyers and activists, group exercise, periods of sunshine, group prayer time, educational programs, etc etc etc. This should all stop immediately. The thousands of Palestinians who come to visit their relatives in jails will be turned away. Phone calls will be blocked. Letters returned. If there is a big hue and cry from the families of the prisoners, then all the better. If not, then I don't care. The big difference will be if the international community sticks its nose in and demands that Israel "respect international law". If that happens, then we simply tell them that we will lift the some of the restrictions the minute the International Red Cross confirms that it has met with Gilad Shalit and ascertained his health. If that happens, then I suggest that we allow the Red Cross to visit the Pal prisoners, but leave all the other restrictions in place.
13. important fact
joseph ,   Israel   (04.28.11)
If it hadn't been for the Oslo peace accord and the retreat from Gaza, Gilad Shalit would be free today.
14. #11, depends who you ask
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.28.11)
You have your opinion, #7 has hers. According to both Hamas and Fatah, Shalit was captured on Palestinian territory since all of what you call "Israel" is Palestinian territory.
15. There is no incentive for Hamas to release Gilad!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.28.11)
Noam Shalit plays into their hands each time he opens his mouth. I really do feel for him and Aviva and I would probably do the same if Gilad was my kid. However, sympathizing with those who kill our people out of pure hatred like the terrorist "strategist" Mahmoud Al-Zahar whose son was killed by Israeli Security Forces, is only seen as weakness by the Arabs and particularly Hamas. The only way to free Gilad is to make the Hamas prisoners in Israeli jails pay the price that Gilad is paying. Put each one into solitary confinement and do NOT allow them any contact with the outside world. Let their families live the living hell that the Shalits have to live. Then they will force Hamas to free Gilad. Israel must fight fire with fire!
16. #11: The Palestinians regard the whole of Israel as occupied
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.28.11)
They don't want their state. They want ours!
17. #10 Josh
Marco ,   Spain   (04.28.11)
Hey Josh, If Moses is in fact your prophet, and Moses forbid kidnapping, how can you hold onto hundreds if not thousands for that long. Set them free. It wasn't their choice that you had to steal their country...
18. Israel's security first....
Yunan Amram ,   Israel   (04.28.11)
We have not forgotten the raw deal we got from the exchange of murderers for the two corpses of Regev and Goldwasser. For all we know Shalit may be dead. Shalit is the past and we must look to the future.
19. Israel is not worth dying for...
Avi ,   Soon to be ex Israel   (04.28.11)
Just look at the way they are treating the Shalit family... I have regret for moving to Israel and I will do something about it... I wonder if Shalit was the son of Netenyahu, would he have been treated differently by our government? Whether you hate Nasrallah or not, you cant help but admire a man who lives by example. His son died fighting and he refused to make a special deal to get the corpse back. Would Netenyahu or any other Israeli politician have done the same?
20. A POW? Where is the Geneva convention?
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (04.28.11)
Shalit a POW? Fine! So, wanna-be Palestine, where is your adherence to the Geneva convention? Oh, so you wish to be a rogue state, and one that expects the UN to "recognize" your legitimacy? Act legitimate!
21. #19 - where you going ?
eporue ,   europe   (04.28.11)
22. Time to get REAL Mean
The Emperor ,   Chula Vista, USA   (04.29.11)
Time to get serious. What I would do is wage Psychological War on these savages. 1st make a very public show of dunking bullets in pig's blood so that Hama's and other fanatical savages in extremist groups can see that dying may not necessarily lead to 'paradise' since the bullets that kill them have touched pork. These fanatics also do not like cremations so following a suicide bombing, cremate the remains of the bomber, but not before mixing with yet again, pork and maybe other refuse. Hopefully, with these ideas, they can actually become civilized and make a radical change to negotiate to resolve their issues instead of violence, because their methods are as effective as a woman thinking nagging and insults will get her man to do something
