I've lived here for two years, and I hate to break it to you - but it's a bit of a second rate city when it comes to going out. Tel Avivites base their "city that never sleeps" reputation on coffee shops and cafes - how dull! With all that caffine, no wonder they don't sleep. However, if you take real nightlife - drinking establishments, nightclubs and live music, then you'll be sadly disappointed. There are around four or five places that do decent live music in the city (as opposed to a bunch of maybe-gifted amateurs banging a drum and strumming a guitar). Bars - pretty few of these, and with drinks in the stratosphere prices (more than double London or Berlin prices), you're better off in Helsinki (better bars, friendlier people, cheaper prices all round). Clubs - a bit of a joke really. DJs spinning their thing and mixing the best of the 80s (Israel: the land where the 80s only arrived two years ago) and the likes of Dean Martin. No joke - I was in one of the so called hotspots and heard "Bon Jovi" followed immediately by "Dean Martin". The places have all the atmosphere of run down garages (which many of them once were). Finally, if you do find some parties here - forget about meeting the locals: they're desperately unfriendly and uncool. Unless of course, you're a woman - in which case you should take a fly swat or baseball bat with you to beat them off!

While Ibiza and Berlin are pretty hot, Tel Aviv beats London and Las Vegas any day!

you're behind the times. tel aviv has flourished since you lived here. there are all kinds of nightclubs, discos, rock concerts, music festivals fab restaurants with live music, all throughout tel aviv. the city that never sleeps. wrong.locals are very friendly. locals make a huge fuss of tourists. you probably wore your snob hat whilst looking for action !!! israelis sure do know how to enjoy themselves, especially in tel aviv.
