1. it was their fear, to get re-annexed by egypt, what...
eporue ,   europe   (04.28.11)
...made them shuffle to cairo... this was all possible within this "window of opportunity"... window closed, gazans back in the game, jerusalem lost --> bibi to blame...
2. You can't have a peace process with Hamas
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (04.28.11)
Do the arithmetic: Fatah + Hamas does not = peace with Israel. Hamas leaders are on record. There is no mistaking their leaders, their constitution, or their policies: they will "never" make peace with Israel. They will not negotiate for peace. Anybody who pretends that Hamas is a "peace partner" should have their academic qualifications stripped.
3. Nonsense
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.28.11)
Ben- Ami has a long record of misjudgment. His belief that 'Hamas' will somehow accomodate itself to the existence of Israel shows he has absolutely no understanding of what 'Hamas' really is. I wonder if even he believes this kind of nonsense.
4. It's a Show just for the UN
Avi ,   NY USA   (04.28.11)
This agreement came so fast because it has only one goal both are interested in and that is a UN declaration of a state. That is why all implementation is in a year. The Arabs are selling the world a PA state with a bazaar style sales pitch and we're falling for it.
5. lets wait and see...
eporue ,   europe   (04.28.11)
not every minority of a "state" can go to the UN and ask for something... so, fatah has to be authorized to do so. clearly and transparent to the UN. otherwise they wont vote on anything... therefore, hamas has already declared, that they will comply with the UN decision. this UN recognition is not a peace-treaty, what can be cancelled... when bibi now talks about temporary borders, then this would lead guaranteed to another war/clash - with hamas, as soon as they are the majority, and wouldnt feel bound to an agreement with israel.. it is/should be in israels (israel ./. settler) security interest, to have this state recognition - means, fixed borders... its in hamas interest, to have temporary borders... temporary borders would lead *guaranteed* to continued, neverending clashes in the region...
6. Too many "if"s.
Maurice ,   Montreal   (04.28.11)
If this and if that...The truth is Hamas has clealry stated that they will NOT recognize Israel and will not discuss peace, and that they will continue their "resistance" (aka terrorism) against Israel. Period. All the "if"s here are only empty words.
7. Pals demonstrated for unity
Sam ,   Canada   (04.28.11)
While other Arab countries are demonstrating to depose their leaders Palestinians demonstrated for Hamas-Fatah unity. It doesn't pay nowadays for Arab leaders to anger the usually obedient Arab citizens. It's that plus the Palestinian wish to show unity before the UN and especially get sanctions on Israel without which they won't recover any territory. Failing that, terror is more effective with Hamas-Fatah unity.
8. at least for now...
tom ,   toronto, canada   (04.28.11)
nobody knows what tomorrow will bring, but at least for now, hamas isn't firing rockets into israel. and in the short term, this "agreement" doesn't change the situation on the ground, with fatah continuing to hold the wets bank, and hamas holding gaza, both with significant flaws in their "legtiimacy". (but sharing the grandiose principles of government, "of the terrorists, by the terrorists, for the terrorists...") it is interesting to note that hamas has suddenly become much less dogmatic, now that israel has the capability to shoot down their rockets.
9.  THEY CAN KEEP PLAY'N GOOD COP BAD COP
Jrodstein ,   Basalt, Colorado   (04.28.11)
THESE PEOPLE DON'T DESERVE A NEW STATE! IT WILL BE A TERRORIST STATE! THE WEST IS SOOO P.L.O.ITICALLY CORRECT SUPPORTING WITH MONEY, WEAPONS AND EVEN SAY'N THERE SHOULD BE A 2 STATE SOLUTION. THE ARABS HAVE HAD MANY CHANCES FOR THERE 23RD STATE.
10. Grandpa and his crazy troll (jin)
William ,   Israel   (04.28.11)
Love the photo of Abbas and Haniyeh on the front page under this article.
11. reconciliation
David Kross ,   Columbia, MD (USA)   (04.28.11)
Ultimately, Israel is Abbas' best friend. Without Israel, Hamas will take control of the "West Bank," and Abbas will be in early retirement in Paris. There are multiple shams here: unity between factions that have thrown opponents from rooftops; the notion that the corrupt and autocratic Fatah faction is ready to govern independently; the existence of an invisible state with make believe borders; the concept of a demilitarized "West Bank," and the main canard: that the crux of all the problems in the Middle East is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. To this list might also be added the fact that Palestinians living in Israel don't want to lose their perks (freedom, health care, wealth, etc.) by becoming the subjects of Abbas or, worse, of Hamas. No deal, no state.
12. The Beilin's option
vitenberg ,   France   (04.28.11)
We negotiate with PLO and retreat to 1949 cease-fire lines, and concession...and other concession...and so on... Palestinian elections, Hamas in power. The treaty is a "chiffon de papier"! In the meantime, what with the Sadate-Begin treaty? Beilin and co are dangerous psychopath!
13. Where is Gilad?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (04.28.11)
The PA is now accountable for him. Give them one hour to return Gilad or we end they terrorist regime.
14. What are Israel's Critical Security Needs ? (Video) !!

15. Palestinians
Harold ,   USA   (04.28.11)
Palestinians are Palestinians no matter who rules them. Both Hamas and Fatah are Palestinians but different ideas. Below is the fact: Hamas = Palestinian Fatah = Palestinian therefore Hamas = Fatah.
16. Abbas - Haniyeh
Moragh   (04.28.11)
Can't somebody toss the Gaza blob of fat (haniyeh) off the tallest gaza building NOW NOW!
17. What is good about the "peace process"?
Chaim ,   Israel   (04.28.11)
Breathing new life into the "peace process" is only positive if the process is a good thing itself. What is good about the "peace process". Can anyone answer? What has it done for Israel? What is it intended to do to Israel? Brief answers: It has resulted in countless terrorist rocket attacks against Israel. It has brought us our last two wars. It has resulted in thousands of maimed and murdered Israelis. Second question: It is intended to render Israel defenseless, with an 8 mile (15 minute tank ride) waist. It is also intended to inundate Israel with rocket and hostile Arabs.
18. Real terrible headline
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (04.28.11)
"The good, the bad and the PA-Hamas pact " Should read "The really bad, the terrible and the War-Criminal Pact".
19. the bad,the worse and the terrorist...
Ricardo ,   USA   (04.29.11)
look at their faces, they are already salivating on the prospects of doing together what they do best...terrorism.. hopefully, we have our IDF, to kick their butts.
20. Stallmate
Beary White ,   Norway   (04.29.11)
Same shit, new wrapping
21. Thats what they said about the IRA
Tcherkessi ,   London   (04.29.11)
22. Fatah will be RESPONSIBLE for hamas attacks
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (04.29.11)
Under the so-called UNITY govt, Fatah/PA will also be held ACCOUNTABLE for EVERY and any ACT of terror from and by Gaza with IMMEDIATE EFFECT. And the ENTIRE unity govt will face the CONSEQUENCE for any and EVERY form of ATTACK.
23. I am a bit late..But worth replying ..Ricardo USA
James T ,   U.S.A   (04.30.11)
However venomous relations between Fatah and Hamas may have been in the past ..with each killing the other's operatives, they will in the end always join forces against Israel. Likewise, Fatah's Abbas the Holocaust denier. The architect and facilitator of the Munich atrocities murdering the Israeli athletes.. Washington will not find significant support in Saudi Arabia or any other members of its bloc vis-à-vis Iran. In the end, Muslim states shy from joining with non-Muslims against fellow Muslims. Therein is the case lies.Incapable of recognizing Israel..Abbas has been dithering fopr over ten months to come to the table and negotiate..So,the crafty devil thinks just bercause a few down trodden Latin countries decided to recognize a so-called Palestinian state they DIE IS CAST...NOT..Anyway let them both enjoy the pantomime for now..But Barak and BB must address this latest in a more robust manner...No point ion being soft..And no asking America's permission or interference.. My point for what is worth..
