1. Can You Say Gaddafi
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (04.29.11)
Who wants to bet, in one month Assad will still be in power. The only difference will be the number of dead. Remember when the HRC at the UN, called for an emergency session, they needed one third of the membership to vote yes, in order to get the session. They did get it with 16 nations voting for it. But the remarkable thing about it, was, NOT one Arab country, voted for the emergency session. Interesting, isn't it? These are the same countries that profess to care so much about human rights. But they are very selective. They only care when it's Israel and Arabs fighting. When Arabs are killing Arabs, they're always strangely silent.
2. Hama Redux?
NYC Girl   (04.29.11)
Now what was it that Hilary Clinton said about Bashar al-Assad being a reformer?
3. deadly clashes.....
justice for all ,   world/planet earth   (04.29.11)
bashar-al assad, his clique and all the other dictators deserve the death penalty for flagrantly violations of the (human) rights of their own peoples, for committing crimes against humanity/mankind, for committing mass-murders, to cause atrocities and massacres and they are committing in fact genocides. they are the greatest/worst criminals who walk on the face of the earth. it has to deter (also)other dictators and criminals for committing the same crimes and the world/ society/the community/mankind has to be protected against these dirty, filthy criminals who will ruin the entire world as long as they can stay in power.
4. Who cares? What about ...
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.29.11)
... Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen and the royal wedding? For some reason (probably one that wreaks of corruption) middle east turmoil is getting such minimal coverage in the western media, it's scary. I'd be willing to bet the so called "land of the free" could care less about democratic reform in the middle east and only wants to keep their oil whore friends in power, so they can get cheap gas for their SUVs. But I guess everybody already knows that, so like I said before, who cares?
5. Deadly Clashes? With Whom?
Woundering   (04.29.11)
the arab dictator is KILLING/MURDERING his own citizens what kind of clash is that? Has the Israeli government made provisions if Hint Hint if bashar is Dethrowned? Proactive Forethought. Just Woundering. Shabat Shalom
6. Cutting water and electricity to besieged
Nora Tel Aviv   (04.29.11)
civilian populations is worst than firing indiscriminately with tanks and artillery over protestors asking for democracy. democracy Just .Imagine hospital`s incubators and operating fields. Without food , water, electricity and treatment thousands of children and aged persons will dye. The UN charter calls it "genocide". What does the Arab Ligue call it ? Non-interference to Islamic countries` internal problems.
7. Is there NOT ONE Syrian officer with integrity?
David ,   Hartford USA   (04.29.11)
Not a single military officer to stand up and arrest or kill Assad and put an end to the country's misery? NOT ONE that thinks killing civilians is wrong? NOT ONE? That only proves how rotten Assad's entire 'court' is. He has willfully killed hundreds, his penalty must be death. Just as Qaddafi's must be.
8. Syria-Irag, same difference
Haider ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (04.29.11)
Beware of the Baathis. The core of the Baath ideology is the same whether Iraqi version or Syrian. It is Facist ideology.
9. #4 - that's because it's nothing new...
William ,   Israel   (04.29.11)
now that the Western world is very familiar with the violence and racism that permeates the Arab Middle East, it's no longer "news". Why do you think the murderous Arabs need to have continuous coverage when the rest of the world continues living?
10. #6 - Israel didn't even do this during Cast Lead
William ,   Israel   (04.29.11)
Water, Fuel, food, medical supplies - all delivered openly during Cast Lead. Israel even opened up a temporary cease-fire zone so the UN could move supplies and Hamas didn't adhere to it, shooting up everything they could see. And somehow it's Israel that gets targeted with investigations and UN resolutions, but Syria is not even considered. Here is the big moral breakdown of this world today.
11. #7 - most officers are baathists
William ,   Israel   (04.29.11)
You can't be anything in the govt or armed forces without being a Baathist...and they know, the minute this stooge loses power, a French-style revolution will take hold, with many heads rolling in the streets - - beginning with Baathists and ending with Alawites.
12. New Syrian regime won't accept Jewish occupation of Golan
TG ,   USA   (04.29.11)
Dictatorships & regimes which clandestinely supported Jewish occupation in Palestine are crumbling. Jewish occupation must be nervous and the old good days are quickly giving way to hard realities that Arabs & Muslim are rising up and will no longer put up with Jewish occupation of Muslim/Arab Palestine.
13. THIS SHOWS THE WESTERN HYPOCRISY MORE AND MORE !!!.
Orao ,   Srbia.   (04.29.11)
14. To #12 TG
Rachel ,   US   (04.29.11)
Looking at the Arabs killing each other, I'm not nervous at all.
15. re: killings is syria of civilians
joel ,   usa   (04.29.11)
let the UN(useless nations) Mr Ban of SKorea and the EU kill Mr Assad, but they're not interested since there is no "oil" in syria that could consider their attentions, right?
16. to no 12
John ,   Tel-Aviv   (04.29.11)
My... Assad supported Israel clandestinely? Tell me - when you wrote that - did you roll on the floor with laughter? You must have had a good smoke, I bet... Arabs are rising agaist... they will not have anything to eat soon with these uprisings, not to talk about fighting Israel. They are only good at murdering their own unarmed citizens.
17. Why nobody says this happens because of the occupation?
Jorge ,   Israel/USA/Argentina   (04.29.11)
18. Iran-syria
Fabio ,   Argentina   (04.30.11)
Iran ocupation of lebanon and syria and sudan, and somalia, and iraq, and afghanistan , And venezuela, bolivia, ecuador, etc, etc.???
19. #12 - how can you occupy what's always been your's?
William ,   Israel   (04.30.11)
The Golan has more Jewish history and character in one rock than the entire Heights has of Syrian characteristic. It was, after all, illegally given to Syria by Colonial powers when it was slated for being part of Israel in the 1920s. However, legal arguments aside, Syria used the Golan to commit war crimes for 4 years and now they not only want it back but also access to the water that supplies Israel, Jordan, and West Bank. Can't risk someone who doesn't support Israel's existence at all, let alone on the Golan.
20. So what?
Ypip ,   Canada   (04.30.11)
21. Reply to #9
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.30.11)
because it's history in the making and hollywood celebrities misbehaving is completely irrelevant to anybodies lives. I don't need a minute to minute play by play of either subject but we're certainly getting a disproportional amount of useless "news". Do you ever wonder why that is? and do you think it's responsible of the media to cater to the lowest common denominator even though they are obviously the majority?
22. WHERE IS GOLDSTONE???
Leah ,   Rehovot   (04.30.11)

24. WHERE IS THE UN? ( I forgot! Only interested if its Israel)

25. #12; TG, ONE PROBLEM...
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (04.30.11)
With your silly logic, the dictators who didn't "clandestinely" support Israel are crumbling too. Second the support wasn't truly clandestine, was it? But if your argument is that support (for Israel) was the reason for the dictators country to crumble, Syria proves that reasoning is wrong, doesn't it, TG? Syria has done everything in it's power to destroy Israel, but it didn't matter. So clearly there are many other issues at play. Now don't you feel a little foolish? Any other brilliant remarks?
