1. It is quite a bit of time until the election
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (05.03.11)
campaign will go into full speed...so it is better, that Osama was killed now and not in a year from now...so Obama cannot really kickstart his campaigning effort with the fruit of a success NOT deserved by him...
2. obama vs. osama
mark ,   t.a israel   (05.03.11)
if the elimination of O.b.L will improve the economic situation of If the elimination of O.B.L. will improve the economic situation of average citizens then it is a success otherwise it is a palliative remedy to cover the failure of H.B.O. in every aspect of his presidency!!! Respectfully yours. u,
3. obama knew about this plan in august 2010
(05.03.11)
but kept the trump card in his back pocket to use once the rating got so low, he whipped it out to insure his staying right where he is, and by golly he may just win it again. all things aside, this was a big fish to catch and feather in his hat. so this kind of makes up for nearly everything else unles he really bungles it within the next 2 yrs.
4. Competence
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (05.03.11)
This will not affect the elections except peripherally. The boost from any one operation is ephemeral. What this may effect is the debate in the US as to whether or not government has a function and can be competent. For more than a decade the people of the US have been told that government is the problem and that government can never be considered competent. The success in n tracking bin Laden and successfully dealing with him argues that there is a role for government and that government can be competent. Not everything has to be contracted out for profit. Not all government employees are incompetent, evil people looking for big benefits.
5. Bush delievered osaman, not obama hussein
(05.03.11)
It was Bush who sent our soldiers to hunt him down. Obama hussein would have never initiated anything.
6. Unlikely!
zooog ,   US   (05.03.11)
It will the price of gasoline and the need for jobs that will determine whether or not Obama is re-elected. Also recall that the first George Bush was not re-elected despite winning the Gulf War, a much greater accomplishment.
7. Osama's death will bring a short
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (05.03.11)
burst of help to Obama Give it two weeks, it will be old news, only fit for wrapping fish The Economy, Unemploymetn and high gas proces will negate what ever boost Osama's death will have givent ot Obama
8. The C.I.A.
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (05.03.11)
Despite the fact that Obama gave the final order to execute the plan, the C.I.A. that deserves credit for the succesful operation.
9. He'll get a bump in the polls but
Rachel ,   US   (05.03.11)
if gas reaches $5/gal and the job situation does not improve he'll still be in trouble.
10. You are dead wrong, rettenmoser
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (05.03.11)
Obama announced at the beginning of his presidency that he would make the capture/killing of Bin Laden a priority and so he did. He energised the various intelligence agencies and the army and chaired regular meetings monitoring progress. The final result was the death of Bin Laden and Obama fully deserves the political credit for this. I don't think the voters will forget this at the next presidential elections.
11. Election
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (05.03.11)
It is scary to think that all these commentators think the Americans are a bloodthirsty bunch of red-necks who will support a Obama just because he killed Bin Laden. Obama may have gained some popularity with his military attacks, but he has lost the fanatic motivation and hero worship of his ideological supporters thanks to his calls to murder journalist Assange, torturing Bradley Manning, unjustified attack on the Libyan people and unheard of collateral damage in Afghanistan. More importantly, many Obama supporters are poor. If the Saudis thank Obama for executing their arch-enemy Bin Laden by lowering the price of oil (and therefore food), Obama will be re-elected. If the price of oil remains high through winter 2011-2012, these people will be unable to feed their children and the only thing that might get Obama reelected is an attempt on his life. And one more factor: if the Arab people succeed in overthrowing the Saudis, Obama loses the election. Expect to see Obama helping the Arab dictators kill protesters.
12. Well, it's definitely one big feather in his cap
Cameron ,   USA   (05.03.11)
But hardly the deciding issue that swings the game. As in the last 2 elections, it all hinges on that Independent bloc of voters.
13. to 2..osama and obama
rania ,   jerusalem   (05.03.11)
sure and the article is about te two persons .. the same like saddam and bush .one was dead oter is alive but to me dsaddam in his deat has he effect on people here in middle east more than the effect of bush in his farm .. i think hitler was worst than both but his effect now is nothing but as a sad memory i think hitler killed himselfe becouse he lost the war not becouse his thought is th right one but saddam and bin laden did not kill themselfe as they believe thst their thought is right and i see many many people in the middle east and in islamic countries think the same even they do not approve his way to kill innoscents .. but to fight america and israil will be the main purpose here
14. Obama's reelection will once again depend
Jan   (05.03.11)
on the stupidity of the Left Liberal voters who have a short term memory as to his incompetence in general. As #5 pointed out Obama would have never initiated to send soldiers to hunt him down.
15. OBL
Boris Stern ,   Brasil   (05.03.11)
bin Laden new he was doomed,so by tipping himself off,he would screw Americans twice. Big time. 9/11 & reelecting Obama
16. to #13 Rania
Susan ,   Kfar saba   (05.03.11)
It is hard to understand your writing because your spelling and punctuation are really bad. Why don't you write it in Word first and use the spell checker? Then cut and paste it onto the talkback. If you want people to read your opinions you have to write clearly so they can understand.
17. #10 Ben Alofs - Obama made a lot of
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (05.03.11)
priority announcements 1) Reducing Unemployment to less than 8%, providing the got the Stimulus Money, it's more than 9% having been stuck there for months on end, money is long gone, sans promsied results 2) He also promised that the cost of energy would rise, he's kept that promise, gas is a dollar more per gallon that it was a year ago, and twice the price now that it was when he took office 3) He's increased employment in the Government sector by 20%, enhancing the base he will relay on to get himself re-elected 4) He promised to close Gitmo; it's still open and running Obama is like buckshot, he makes loads of promises, one of them is bound to hit the target BTW- It's thanks to George Bush that Obama got the intelligence information on how to find Obama; leads came from those that were water boarded at Gitmo
18. Obama's impact on America is totally disastrous.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.03.11)
Obama will try to take credit for killing Bin Laden but everyone knows it had absolutely nothing to do with him. American soldiers deserve all the credit. Obama is hopeless and his only hope of winning in 2012 is to depend on voters being completely irrational. Obama's impact on America; from the economy to health care, unemployment and foreign policy is totally disastrous.
19. #10 Make your mind up Alofs
Phil ,   Ireland   (05.03.11)
So when Obama orders the execution of an unarmed terrorist, this is ok by you. But when Israel takes out terrorists, you cry about human rights abuses. Boo-hoo.
20. 2012 election is about US economy
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (05.04.11)
In two years, Obama not only failed to help the economy, he actually made it worse. We have the longest period of high unemployment in our history. The rising price of gasoline is on everyone's minds and it's causing the price of food and everything else to increase. People are cutting back on purchases - which causes more businesses to close and more jobs lost. Capturing OBL was good, but by Nov. '12, if voters are still suffering financially, they are going to say, "Enough is enough. It's time for a new person in the White House."
21. #9 $5 a gallon gas is cheap- costs>$10 gal in NZ
