Drug wars in Mexico, Columbia. Drugs are big business. Drug Lords, dealers, all the way down the line, will do ANYTHING to keep the bucks rolling in. The only way to stop them is to stop the demand for their products.

Well, if you just count Mexico over the last four years, about 30,000. Factoring in Brazil, Columbia and the other cocaine producing states, probably close to 10,000, 20,000 a year. And yeah, you do have a better chance to die in a car accident, in Israel. But if you are a South American resident, not so much. Also, to OD is just one way to die because of drugs. Other ways are simply being murdered for them, or the land they grow on, or working for the competition, or not being on time, or not paying protection or a list as long as there are ways to die.

People want drugs, they will keep purchasing drugs, and there's nothing anybody can do about it. As long as drugs are illegal, the profits of the drug trade would keep going into the pockets of criminals and terrorists, and those who have fallen the victims of addiction will keep being treated as criminals, not as ill. A trip around the central bus station in Tel Aviv, or into one of the heroin maintenance clinics (which I do weekly as my brother is a heroin addict) is the best testimony to this facts. If you want to keep the drugs banned, you are every bit as much of a criminal as those who profit on the suffering of the drug addicts. And I wish there was a prison sentence for that.
