Just another last minute attempt by his slimey lawyers to drag things out even further. More waste of the courts time and public money. He was convicted beyond all reasonable doubt, its time to put katsav behind bars at least his victims will then be able to get on with their lives

He should not have been a threat when he was in the most respected and honored position in Israeli society....but he was! Lock him up as quikly as possible as with any other rapist trash.

it's about whether the rule of law should be respected. There is no reason why he should not already begin serving his sentence. No appeal will set him free, or reduce his sentence to weeks or months. Consequently there's no reason for him not to begin serving his punishment. This IS about whether all are equal in the eyes of the law, and any further delay will further the impression that Katsav somehow deserves special attention or treatment.

why don't we all let the court decide what should be done. Let's hope their ruling does not meet criticism of any sort!

He has been found guilty of a despicable crime - send him to prison and let his lawyers deal with appeals when he's behind bars. He's not a threat to the public, but that doesn't matter - he was found guilty and sentenced weeks and weeks ago - anyone else would be locked up by now. Stop being lenient just because he was President - and, I have to add, the worst one in the history of this country.

He is not above the law! However, in a country where convicted pedophiles, charged with repeated sexual attacks, are sent home under house arrest, we mustn't be surprised if the Supreme Court reverses the decision of the High Court or reduces Katzav's sentence. This is a country where people who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs and kill are fined NIS1000 and sentenced to Community Service! The blame for the travesties of justice so evident in Israel lies fair and square with the President of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Beinish, and her predecessors who have time and time again blocked the imposition of minimum sentences. One would think that the Knesset would be the supreme legislative authority in Israel but this is an illusion as the MK's we elect don't have the courage to force the Supreme Court to abide by legislation on minimum sentences. The Supreme Court sitting as the High Court of Justice can only overturn legislation that conflicts with the Basic Law, Israel's sort of Constitution and the imposition of minimum sentences certainly is not in conflict with it.

Katsav falsely accused and convicted without a shred of colloborative evidence. Katsav was convicted in the court of public opinion by an irresponsible press. Katsav was convicted by a failed court who refused to give him a fair trail.

... but, so far, I can see that man as a typical womanizer, not a rapist. "Rape" means clear evidence: shouts, screams, tears, torn clothes, ... whatever. Nothing like that was proven at the original court hearings.

Whether he is innocent or not, Katsav must understand that he is going to jail. If they find him innocent, it means that Mazuz and Olmert collaborated to frame an innocent man to give Peres the presidency. There is no way they will admit that. Katsav should go to jail and find a way to publish the secret court records that prove (or not) his innocence.
