1. What a great Idea!
Israelit ,   Israel   (05.11.11)
I will definitely visit!
2. So, they are going to live in designated areas ,...
split ,   US   (05.11.11)
They call it reservation in my part of the world. How long is going to take to surround them with a wall ? ,...
3. Somehow,...
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (05.11.11)
...this will be translated by Israel's "friends" on the left into: a) Ghettoization b) Racism c) Segration d) Discriminatory e) It DOES have the feel of a place that should be called "Potemkinville". Betcha bottom agorot. Betcha.
4. To # 2 Split - So what?
Rachel ,   US   (05.11.11)
You have reservations in US that have their own jurisdiction. So what's your point if you even have one?
5. In teh 50s they called them Moshavim.
Ben Yisrael ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.11.11)
6. #2 - in your part of the world, you stole Indian land
William Geller ,   Israel   (05.11.11)
and stuffed them far away from your population. In our State, we work to help immigrants from around the world avoid cultural shock and become self-sustaining and integrated into society. Your "Palestinians" are doing the same thing - basically by demanding ethnic cleansing, also to avoid the cultural shock of dealing with non-Arab, non-Muslim people.
7. #3 - I agree. Racist Left always have an agenda
William ,   Israel   (05.11.11)
except that no one is forced to live in such designated areas and free speech, freedom of movement, and rights to education and healthcare is still upheld.
8. ah my Israel u always do the right things :)
Ester   (05.11.11)
great idea.. :) i love you Israel! :) and bibi!

Jennie ,   Israel/US   (05.11.11)
And which part of the world is it, split ? Lunywill? You are so full of crap...Funny, how Gideon @#3, just has posted a great point about how your kind would respond to this.... The idea is great ! Nobody is forcing the Ethiopian Olim to do this. The Russian immigrants in the early 70's were also given loans from the Governrment to develop agriculture in the Negev desert, which turned out to be a great success for the country and for the then Olim, who are now 2nd. generation sabras...The whole Israeli nation is a big Kibutz Galuyot...Looks like you bark into the wind, saying anything you can to insite hate against Israel. But Israel is such an exceptional country, filled with miracles and goodness, that your comments will never effect or impress anybody here...
10. No to segregation
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (05.11.11)
I believe this is just a nice way of saying, no one else want Ethiopian immigrants among their midst. I believe the government should promote diversity and not build an exclusive community for specific segment of society be it black, white, Jewish or Arab…
11. Will Arabs or Haredim be allowed to live there?
Pam   (05.11.11)
12. about time
johanna ,   tsfat   (05.11.11)
the contribution that the Ethiopian community can make to Israel has been sadly wasted. most of them are farmers and agriculturalists and have a lot of knowledge which has been ignored and would be a great addition to us. because of a perceived need to urbanise them and bring them into the 21c their talents have been wasted. this has meant that the men in particular have found it hard to find their place. hopefully this Ethiopian village will be the first of many. perhaps moshavim and kibbutzim could ask their very skilled farmers to come and help them revitalise their farming practices and communities. i just don't know why it wasn't thought of when the Ethiopian aliyah first started back in the 80's. better late than never i suppose.
13. Bad idea!!
Chaya ,   Tel Aviv   (05.11.11)
I do not like this idea! Why should there be a separate village for them?? Why can't a farming village be established where anyone could go who wants to farm?? Just like in the 50's, Jews from Arab countries were forced onto moshavim even if they had never farmed before in their lives. My husband's father was one of them. He was an artist and suddenly was told that he had to become a farmer! They arrived there - on Moshav Nir Yafe - in the middle of the night and was told "This is now your home."
14. There are merits in this idea and it is well worth a try.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (05.11.11)
If they are given plots of land, then that in itself gives them a sense of ownership and belonging. In a village setting, they have each other to turn to for support and maintenance of their cultural practices and traditions as opposed to being lost in other communities. They can use their creativity to improve themselves and assimilate at their own pace. Depending on their level of education or skills capabilities it can take immigrants a few generations to assimilate. They will have mobility to move back and forth between the village and the wider community learning about their new surroundings, so it is not as if they are stuck among total strangers. This can be a very practical arrangement provided it is properly supervised and the people are given every encouragement, support, assistance, dignity and equal opportunity by the state authorities, including the proper planning and layout of the village and decent housing and amenities etc. The absolutely worst thing that can happen is for it to be neglected so that it becomes a ghetto with unhappy and resentful residents who feel that the state and the existing citizens do not care about them. It seems to me that previous arrangements did not work very well despite the best intentions, because there was no plan that took into account their specific needs.

bravo jennie, you said it all. superb post.
16. Calm yourselves down..
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (05.11.11)
Could you all please take it easy ? Does the Government forcing all the Ethiopian Olim into a segragation or something ? Why don't you read the article again or just check the every day facts of life in Israel..I know Ethiopian Israelis in Sderoth, Ashkelon, Ashdod who are wonderful young man and women...You can't set them apart in any demographic, cultural, educational,cultural,etc...way...What is suggested is a small village, that would be a great source of a tourist attraction and a good source of income for those whose decide to make their business there. And since there isn't any other country in the world, that is home for Jews from every corner of the world. I know kibutzim in the Northern Negev, that were established and are still populated by Argentinian Jews, some by Russian Jews, some by Brazilian, etc....What is the problem, Chaya ?
17. Arab nations should prove they are a worthy culture...
Keren ,   IL-BR   (05.11.11)
...and a worthy people to be praised by all. They should take their "suffering" "palestinian"brethren to their huge lands and do for them the same Israel does for its own ,and beyond our own. Peace is something very easy to achieve-it's just a matter of goodness and good will. Are arabs capable of such a thing?

Jennie ,   Israel/US   (05.11.11)
Another of those looney tunes, rami ? Do you know how many Ethiopian's live all over Israel for over 20 years now ? Do you remember project Solomom, when Israel rescued thousands of Ethiopians and flew them to Israel ? They were welcomed and received all the resettlement assistance needed and which Israel provides to any group of Olim ...The new generation of those immigrants are your friends, your teachers, your classmates, your fellow IDF troops, etc...Shame on you and your wishful typical leftist liberal thinking... Do you think, the arab population of Israel earned the trust of the Israeli people ?

Thank You, Birdi. Coming from You, your compliment means a lot to me..
20. Terrible !!!!!!

zionist forever   (05.11.11)
Its a reservation the Ethiopians like the idea of. This is not the wild west where the government took Indian tribal lands then rounded up all the Indians and put them forcibly into a reservation. The Ethiopians have no lands in Israel to say the government is taking from them and then putting them in a reservation to shut them up. Nobody will be forced to live in this village / reservation whatever you want to call it . If an Ethiopian wants to go live in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem they are allowed but if they want to live in the village they are allowed to go there as well. Sounds to be its going to be more like an Ethiopian kibutz or Moshav rather than a reservation. Its actually a pretty good idea because they can be living in a community of their people.
23. by the way n 21....
aline silverman ,   israel   (05.11.11)
I am an Israeli and a Zionist and I still think it is a BAD idea !!!!!!Nothing in common with kibbutzim founded by one group or another !!!!!

Jennie ,   Israel/US   (05.12.11)
With all due respect, Aline, a Zionist is not looking to devide the nation with baseless suspicions, based on a business idea, that would inhence and promote a Jewish ethnic group... It has been done successfully before over the history of Israel with other ethnic Jewish groups and the experiment turned out mutually benefitial to the State....I am a product of one...Why don't You let the Ethiopian people decide..They have the Freedom to do so !...You and your kind of Zionists, are not serving the ideals of Zionism here, but stirring problems out of nowhere as if we don't have enough already...
25. We Ethiopians excel more with own support base
Ezra ,   Washington, D.C.   (05.12.11)
Just to note, here in Washington D.C. alone, we've more Ethiopian doctors than in all of Ethiopia, with more than 50% gas station and parking business Ethiopian owned. Ethiopian communities have taken over old D.C. ghettos and transformed them into successful business districts and valued real estate. Israeli govt idea will work mainly for 1st generation rural immigrants who can excel in the agrarian and service related work they already know. They'll also embrace a community of their own. Remember, Felasha migrants to Israel tend to be from rural communities, not urban city slickers.
26. 4 - You have reservations in US ,...
split ,   US   (05.12.11)
Reservations in US were created at the time when racism and apartheid was widely accepted and practiced, in 19 century ,...
