1. Those who send our soldiers into riots
jason white ,   afula,israel   (05.12.11)
unarmed should be made to pay with loss of rank and pensions as well as prison time if one soldier is lightly wounded. The soldiers who are ordered to go into these situations without their weapons are not the brightest. Perhaps they have forgotten what happened to the navy commandos? Even unarmed civilians marching on our borders to illegally enter our country should be treated as an invading army and destroyed.Let the enemy see and feel the iron fist of Israel, instead of a bunch of cowards. bibi would be better off firing barak and vilnai now!
2. "see and feel the iron fist of Israel"
jj   (05.12.11)
have you not paid attention to any of the riots across the middle east and northern africa? or, like, history in general? iron fists make the will of an opposition stronger then before. how stupid can people be? seriously? go read a book.
3. This has been the problem all along
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.12.11)
We exercise restraint instead of putting an end to these crimes. The answer is to answer their violence with as much violence that is required to end the attacks.
4. Israel's goal should be victory. Not restraint.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.12.11)
Given that our internal "Palestinian" enemies plan a full scale war against us, restraint is an incredibly stupid goal for Israel. It projects weakness and lack of confidence. It guarantees our defeat. Israel's goal should be total resounding victory. That would be the goal of any other nation under these circumstances. You can't win wars with restraint. Israel desperately needs strong new leadership.
5. Nakba
daniel shir ,   fort lauderdale usa   (05.12.11)
Israeli society has become weak in face of Arab agreession. Many Israelis on the left believe that they live in the USA or that their society should mirror American rules. The Arabs relaize this and plan Israel's downfall since Western kindness is often the road to defeat. I say put those that make problems during Nakba on a boat to Turkey.
6. IT'S THE GUNMEN, STUPID
JEWISH DOCTOR ,   NYC AMERICA   (05.12.11)
IF THE PALS WOULD OUTLAW the CARRYING OF GUNS AS WELL AS THE IDF is doing, on nabka day , there would be the first steps to a real 2 state solution... but the arabs love to shoot off their guns as well as their mouths...in crowds.
7. Encourageing hooligans?
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (05.12.11)
8. Only "scorched earth" and "iron fist" will suffice.
Joe F.   (05.12.11)
Pals are experienced in the procedure, if they want to get out of hand, that is.
9. A week of closure will do them some good
Ilan ,   Ariel   (05.13.11)
The PA lives off the income from workers coming in daily to work. It is a plausible and as powerful a deterrent as needed to make the cost of a "popular uprising" unpopular.
10. It's like going to war and saying: "Please, no noise!!"
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.13.11)
11. one-sided inflammatory article
phil ,   ireland   (05.13.11)
Fishman argues that "any pledge by any element, but it Israeli or Palestinian, to maintain restraint " is worth nothing.. This is a fair enough analysis However, when he goes on to list elements that may cause escalation he focuses only on the potential for escalation for one side Anyone who has followed the non-violent stuggles in Bi'lin, Nabi Saleh and so on will have ample evidence of how non-violent protest is met by israeli forces Thus to focus on potential escalation from the Palestinian side only is one-sided and inflammatory
12. #11
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (05.13.11)
Pretty simple here, Phil: if they aren't fool enough to attack our soldiers, police officers and civilians, no one will attack them.
13. #11
Reuven Carmel ,   Jerusalem   (05.13.11)
I have personally been to the demonstrations in all those locations. Not one is ever non-violent. Not one. Unless of course pro-Palestinian violence doesn't count as violence. Would that perhaps be it? I have friends who have been hospitalized and sustained permanent injuries because of these 'non-violent" demonstrators.
14. #11 Strange
Jake   (05.14.11)
You must be referring to a different Bil'in, because the clips I have seen from the 'non-violent protests' at Bi'lin clearly and repeatedly show the use of violence against Israeli soldiers and police.
15. #11
Nathan B ,   Australia   (05.14.11)
Phil stick to IRA policies and worry about your own backyard, you lot kill eachother and have the nerve to have an opinion?
16. #11 Nonsense
Phil ,   Ireland   (05.15.11)
If you believe the pro-Palestinian propaganda, you will think these protests are "non-violent". But any objective observer will see the violence perpetrated by the Palestinians. It is the call to drive "Jews into the sea" which promotes and escalates the violence. As somone who has seen pro-Palestinian demonstrations, I can say they are driven by extreme vitriolic hatred of Israel and have no interest in peace.
