Most of the Arabs in Palestine in those times (1948) were newcomers, low-class labour-force, peasants, sheperds (Beduins) etc.. Not exactly the type that own lands or wealth. Many Jewish communities in the "Arab world" had been there well before the Arab conquests, were well established and more than successful. And by the way Arab-Jewish "coexistence" in Arab-Muslim lands is a myth. I don't understand why the Israeli Arabs speak about "Nakba" they are much better off than those who fled (Education, work, health care, representation in the Knesset etc..

The article is factually incorrect regarding Tunisia. The Bourguiba government in fact did nationalize by decree in the early '50s ALL Jewish communal property, ie schools, community houses, synagogues, hospices, cemeteries etc. This was done without any compensation. Most of these properties, located in center cities, were later used by Muslim institutions, municipalities, the State or cronies of the regime.

You know very well the debate over Israel is not about whether Jews "should" have a country, it is about the circumstances. Do I have the right to a glass of water? So it would be okay for me to take glass and water from your family against your will? The inherent right of Jews to the land of Israel is not political and certainly does not include the right to crush non Jews. Its politics or Judaism, not both.
