It's bizarre to me that so many commenters mention that she slapped him even though there is no indication of it in the video. It's inconceivalbe that she would have slapped him in these circumstances -- she was angry but not about to strike a much larger person who has the power to put her in prison, not to mention strike her back. Cops can't stand it when people don't show them respect and cower in their presence and apparently many commenters think it's okay for a protesting lawyer to be smacked for showing disrepect. As to your question about what would happen in NY if a cop hit a woman with a nightstick in the head after she lightly struck him (which didn't appear to happen here) -- if it were filmed on tape, he would be in serious trouble. A cop can use measures that are necessary to protect himself or apprehend a suspect but he can't deliberately harm someone just because he's been insulted or feels angry. It may be a human reaction -- but we should all expect better.
