1. What irresponsible hypocrites!
(05.16.11)
"The State of Israel and the IDF's aggressive behavior against the Syrians who crossed the border is a disgrace. They could have ended the whole thing peacefully without taking lives." First, the agression came from the Syrians - so THEY ARE THOSE WITH THE AGRESSIVBE BEHAVIOR! When you cross a border YOU are responsible for your actions, not those defending the border, you imbecile! LEARN TO BE RESPONSIBLE! And yes, if the Syrians haven't crossed the border in the first place, they could have ended the whole thing peacefully without endangering their lives. Again - LEARN TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN STUPID ACTIONS! And this applies also to some of the residents of Majd Al Shams!
2. A million? So far only 800 were willing to die against Assad
Marco ,   Spain   (05.16.11)
It was good that IDF killed some now so they will not dare repeating this next year and ever again. It has been proven numerous times that this is the only language Arabs understand.
3. Serious matter
Salma ,   Palestine / Jordan   (05.16.11)
We are prepared to send many Shahids as my father died (in a tractor accident in his field) and not in a fight against Israel. But still we are prepared. My mother also.
4. Has anyone stopped to consider
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (05.16.11)
what the Syrian's would have done, if Israeli's crossed the border with the intention of making trouble ? The Syrian reaction wouldn't have been nearly as restrained as Israel's was All you have to do is see how the Syrian's have been killing their own people because they were protesting Assad's regime What's the body count now, 1000 or more ? Anyone in Majdal Shams that doesn’t like it, is free to leave; the exit to Syria is there for your convenience
5. if you want to die, stop complaining when you do
daniel ,   israel   (05.16.11)
the representative said that "these people came prepared to die as martyrs". yet some people are enraged about the loss of life, although these people were only exercising their own desires. i am always amused by "outrage" at killings of people who want to die. they were taught it's the highest and attainable honor possible. it's wrong to kill, but they disagree, so why not respect their cultural leanings...?
6. Choice of Language
Ellen ,   israel/USA   (05.16.11)
I find it interesting that the International Press and some Israeli Press referred to those who knocked down the Border Fence and illegally crossed into Israel as "Palestinians" --( although inasmuch as they entered illegally no one checked their passports to figure out their pedigree) BUT Now we have this article and a number of residents of Mijdal Shams refer to them as "Syrians"--obviously since that is where they came from! The Druze serve in the Israeli army. I am confident that most would NOT like to see a repeat of yesterday's actions. One mother had to teacher her children what Nakba was and explain what was going on---another would be willing to go out a protest ( but obviously didn't so she is all talk and no action)
7. Please Salma #3, Make my day !!!
Danny ,   Albany, USA   (05.16.11)
8. THERE NEEDS TO BE A WALL: NO APOLOGIES
EZ ,   US   (05.16.11)
That would have prevented. This entire incident. The US has embarked on building a wal with Mexico, a friend of the US, for security purposes. There is no reason a wall couldn't go up across Israels north: in fact it would be irresponsible Cor Israel NOT to do it. This was the worst violation of a nations sovereignty by civilians we know of. Shame on the Arabs for such disgraceful. Dishonorable behavior. They should be held accountable and any "right of return" revoked based uponthe fact that those returning would be violent. TUME FOR ELECTIONS AND A NEW UNITY GOVERNMENT TO BE FORMED AND TO CLEARLY DEFINE ISRAELS LATH TOWARDS SECURITY AND SELD-RESPECT, VISION AND INNOVATION AS A STATE. AND IT'S TIME TO DROP THIS SILLY FORM OF PARLIMENTARY DEMOCRAZY AND ADOPT A CONSTITUTION AND BILL OF RUGHTS. Enough of this stagnation already: ISRAEL MUST CLEARLY DEFINE IT'S FUTURE, IT'S NOW AND IT MUST BE WITHOUT THE EGOS OF THE RECKLESS POLITICIANS LIVNI, BARAK, BIBI and Peres should step aside: he's done enough service and clings to unattainable ideals. Chai Yisrael.
9. prepared =/= wanting to die
Ugo ,   UK   (05.16.11)
Being prepared to die and actually seeking death are 2 very different things. I'm sure every Israeli soldier is prepared to die. Do you just write off their deaths and say they were asking for it? Of course you don't because you view Jewish lives as more important than anyone else. Such a disgusting comment with utter disregard for the sanctity life but only to be expected from an Israeli.
10. Serious matter response
Mark ,   USA   (05.16.11)
Yes Salma, it is a serious matter indeed..esp. when it's all meant to embarrass Israel with the ultimate goal of destroying the country. There never would've been such a need if the arabs lived in the real world and not in a make believe one of their own making. Serious? As long as there is Farfour and Nabul it will be serious. Look to your own "house" first.
11. How about answering a real question?
Biggar Thomas ,   Toronto, Canada   (05.16.11)
Your question is false. These people were trying to enter land that was theirs just 65 years ago. What would I do if somebody was squatting on my land - I'd try to take it back. Remember what Ben Gurion said, these people will never give up. The only solution is a one state solution with guarantees of equality for all.
12. This Article is Biased
John ,   Alaska   (05.16.11)
Hassan Shaalan's Arab bias degrades the quality of this article. He should have submitted it to Al Jazeera of Ha'aretz for publication, as their journalistic standards are not as stringent as those normally met in Ynet articles.
13. To #3 Salma
John ,   Alaska   (05.16.11)
You might have overlooked this, so I wanted to let you know: Your location of Palesting/Jordan is redundant. Simply saying Jordan is sufficient. Also, there is no such thing as a holy war. The people in this article were not warriors but criminals, The IDF responded to them as such, displaying restraint because their actions were not a military incursion but a criminal trespass.
14. killing protesters
howard ,   tor canada   (05.16.11)
very bad to shoot unarmed humans you will be punished as individuals and as a nation if you are a nation start acting like one
15. Salma #3
Mickey ,   Sydney Australia   (05.16.11)
I notice that you are prepared to send shahids, not to be one yourself!
16. Ugo # 9
Mickey ,   Sydney Australia   (05.16.11)
No Ugo, we Jews don't view Jewish life as more important than anyone else, its just that Jews love life like I'm sure you do too, but the Muslims, by their own admission, love death
17. irreponsible hyprocrites
maureen mcguire ,   nm,usa   (05.16.11)
So killing someone if they don't give you their land and do what you say is OK? You take killing, murder, very lightly. How frightening.
18. IDF had no choice
Maurice ,   Montreal   (05.16.11)
There was no way for the IDF to know that th Syrians crossing the border were not suicide killers with explosive belts on them. They had to protect the border. That is the duty of the military forces of any sovereign country, specially when you deal with nutheads who aspire to die as "martyrs".
19. Next time...
Adam ,   Golan Heights Israel   (05.16.11)
... I hope we have a DM with the self respect to target Damascus. If the syrian army is prepared to allow this invasion of Israel, then they must face the consequences.
20. Contagion.
Philip Smeeton ,   Oslo Norway   (05.16.11)
This just demonstrates the insanity of Islam, apparently it's contageous.
21. #9 the value of one Jewish life against 10,000 Arab lives
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (05.16.11)
Israel did not set this equation, Hamas did, but demanding 10,000 prisoners in exchange for Gilad Shalit. If Hamas believed that an Arab life is worth the same as a Jewish life, they would ask for only one prisoner to be exchanged for Gilad. The fact that HAMAS, not Israel, makes this equation, proves the value they put on Arab lives.
22. #3 Salma, your father had a field, and a tractor!
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (05.16.11)
So what are you complaining about? Oh, you want the Jews' field and the Jews' tractors.
23. #3 Salma now signing Palestine/Jordan
citizen   (05.16.11)
Have we all helped her to see the light? Or will she claim this post was from a fake Salma?
24. The Syrians have killed 1000 of thei own people
Lioness ,   Israel   (05.16.11)
They dont need Israel to do the job for them. The Syrians are pretty good at killing their own people always have been!!!!!!!
25. Golan Druse Cheered them on !!!!
GolanDruseHelpedThem ,   china and israel   (05.16.11)
Golan Druse are no friends time to boycott them and their Humus big time
26. moslem birth control
david ,   new york   (05.16.11)
27. Minefields on the Northern Border
Harry ,   Victoria Canada   (05.16.11)
I am sure that the IDF is taking steps to re-mine the border areas. Obviously Israel can't just let mobs of people just crash the border whenever they feel like it. There should be a definite no-man's land before the border fence and should be extensively mined. Also it would be a bad idea to set up a few more watchtowers with hi-speed gatling machine guns that fire thousands of rounds per minute.
28. Maureen McGuire
Alex ,   NYC   (05.16.11)
crossing a border between two countries that are still in a state of war between each other, in a place that had a war just in 2006, is heavily mined is a suicidal matter. It's a shame Syrian authorities decided to instigate a bunch of folks to cross over such a border to take attention off their brutal crackdown on their own people (850 killed +).
29. #17, cartoon-like analysis
Howard Immanuelson ,   US   (05.16.11)
I'd like to point out that #17's imbecilic cartoon-like analysis is not representative of the vast majority of the population of the US, nor does it line up with the statements of the US government.
30. syrians crossing the border!
steve ,   USA   (05.16.11)
What the IDF might have done is take those syrians right into an israeli prison and then sent a note to hamas, meshaal and assad: they'll be released when shalit is. They are our guests in prison with the same Red Cross visits shalit gets. After all, you stole him but these syrians entered israel voluntarily. and while we are at it iran can release the 2 american jews they pulled over the iranian border.
