1. I love Yehuda Weinstein for pushing this
Talula ,   Israel   (05.24.11)
People that abuse animals should be severely punished!! Only loser nobody's with zero intelligence and zero self-esteem abuse animals, makes them feel tough. I cannot abide child abuse or animal abuse – and unfortunately these are the two sectors in society who cannot speak up for themselves, therefore we have to do it for them to protect them. Well done Yehuda Weinstein!
2. Attorney General Weinstein
NYC Girl   (05.24.11)
Thank you for taking a tough stand against the cretins who abuse animals. Frankly, as far as I'm concerned, anybody who abuses animals should be subjected to the same abuse they've inflicted on these innocent creatures. But for those who aren't concerned about animal abuse, keep in mind that the psychos who torture animals frequently go on to murder and torture human beings. Google "Jeffrey Dahmer" and you'll see a good example of what I'm talking about.
3. A big THANK YOU to the AG and activists who pushed for this
Canadian Otter   (05.24.11)
Let's hope that there won't be any exceptions based on "cultural" or "traditional" reasons when the perpetrators are non-Jews. Whoever is convicted of animal cruelty sould be prevented by law from ever owning animals again.
4. Good

9. Animal Cruelty
Baruch ,   USA   (05.25.11)
Will the AG also investigate animal cruelty in shechita practices?
10. #9 Baruch
Bar Kochba   (05.26.11)
Is it not enough our judge is passing a law that will protect you (animal protection)? The right TB is "Thank you Mr. AG for advancing the rights of animals". He gives a hand then you ask for a leg. My my my.
11. #1 Talula and others: Who is going to enforce this?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (05.30.11)
The concept is good and Israel has very good laws but laws are only as good as the enforcement of those laws. Do you really think that if someone cuts off the ears or the tail of a dog, tortures a cat and swings a chicken around yelling "capara, capara" and some good person calls the police, they will respond? The more likely response is that the "good Samaritan" will be prosecuted for "disturbing the police"!

NYC Girl   (05.30.11)
Obviously, you're more familiar with police enforcement in Israel than I am, but maybe they could implement the system we have in New York City. Here, reports of animal abuse are responded to by the ASPCA (the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) who have full police powers. In fact, some of the ASPCA officers were former NYC cops. So that means they can not only arrest you...but they can shoot you if they deem it necessary. Also, depending on the level of abuse, offenders can be fined or imprisoned or both. But the good thing is that the ASPCA is funded primarily by private donations, so there's no issue of tax-payer financing.
13. Animal cruelty
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (05.31.11)
Whilst I do NOT condone animal cruelty in any shape or form, let's be realistic on this one. Does anyone really think that they will lock up some stupid kid for 3 years if he gets caught kicking a dog? Do you know how much it costs to put someone away for 3 years? Why should the taxpayer fund that eh? They need to find some more appropriate punishment instead.
14. No. 14
NYC Girl   (06.01.11)
Okay, here's a more appropriate punishment. Instead of 3 years in prison...just kick the little shit.
15. I want to see them go after the idiots
jason white ,   afula, israel   (06.01.11)
that let their dogs roam around the street by their houses all year long. Or those other cretins that use a stick or metal rod on their dogs.Or some small dog that has to drag around a chain that weighs almost as much as they do. Finally how about seeing the A.G. also protect us two legged animals, humans that are exploited by their employers.Pass some laws with teeth to also imprison employers that steal from their workers along with the management that helps them.
16. YEHUDA help close Chavat Mazor!
Sheryl Katz ,   Israel   (06.02.11)
Finally someone with power is speaking out for animal rights. There is hope after all for the hundreds of abused and neglected animals in Israel. Yehuda help close down Chavat Mazor!!!
17. For instance: dog stoned by Haridim.
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.03.11)
For instance a case for him: It was reported on Nana. A dog in Mea Shearim was stoned. Apparently the rabbis ruled that the dog, who was lving around the rabbinical court building (?) was a reincarnation of a lawyer they had ruled should be stoned and then called kids from the neighborhood to stone the dog! According to the report they threw stones at him for about an hour until the poor dog finally managed to escape. Anybody in that area know anything about this? How does one file a complaint?
