61. President Obama's clueless foreign policy
damned if u do ,   usa   (05.20.11)
His tough love approach to Israel is going to backfire in his face. All he succeeded in doing was alienating the Israeli PM and making him even more determined to dig in his heels. Likewise, he pissed off the Arabs because they didn't think he was specific enough about how he will support them. When is President Obama going to learn that a mediator like the US is NOT supposed to set the terms of a border agreement before the warring sides are even sitting at the table? For an otherwise astute man, he sure is a naive dolt when it comes to the Middle East.
62. David # 8
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (05.20.11)
We could use more "strategic liabilities" like Israel. God says he will bless those that bless Israel. Jefferson didn't have that option when he made that statement. Perhaps if he were alive today he would ammend that statement.
63. Justice / 19
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (05.20.11)
Are you sure you are from planet earth? The congress at that time was controlled by the Democrats and they gave Bush the green light.
64. 47 - Save your breath ,...
split ,   US   (05.20.11)
First you have to extort the money from the taxpayer at the time when we're losing our homes and closing fire stations - $3.00 out of $4.00 comes back as a matter of fact, the remaining $1.00 stays in Israel and subsidises their military industrial complex making our products harder to sell. Why don't we just pass the money directly to six-pack Joe instead to Israel and ask him to stay home and take care of his kids - This way the children are going to spend time with their parents, instead with WII games, we're going to keep that $1 that stays in Israel, our weapons will be more affordable on the market, our aid won't create us an enemies and the Israelis are going to have to learn how to survive without our handouts,... Let Palis be Palis and they won't need our aid to survive ,...
65. #54: seadog, BUT THEN AGAIN...
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (05.20.11)
As you state, and I quote: "he also purchased all that "stuff" with his wages... and his taxes paid for all those US manufactured weapons in Israel's arsenal.." But his wages may have come from a job created, because Israel purchased weapons manufactured in the USA? Ironic isn't it? As to "foreign leaches" your right the Pals are exactly that. We give them free cash, and get noting in return, unlike Israel, is that what you meant?
66. Seigfried in Germany
Arnold-Canada   (05.20.11)
What a racist comment you made. Where did you ever read that Jews do not like people of color. You are an idiot.
67. Israel Watchdog / 56
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (05.20.11)
When you call # 8 a moron you may be giving him to much credit . Your post to # 8 was a good one.
68. 3. It is about time for us to get closer to China
split ,   US   (05.20.11)
Can you people provide for your own existence without "getting closer" to anyone relying only on yourself for a change ? The Chinese are not as stupid as you think they're at least not as we're ,...
69. #46 seadog et al
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.20.11)
The foreign leaches are the arabs. Read Post #47. Are you, split and 'observer' the same person? You all sound indentical in that you all ignore inconvenient [for you] facts.
70. Obama's motive
Joe ,   Florida, USA   (05.20.11)
Obama's motive is purely for self gain, to help him in his run for re-election less than 18 months from now. He doesn't care about what's IN the deal, but rather getting a deal, any deal signed, so he can use that in his campaign speeches. I sure hope the Republicans can field a viable candidate, and one who UNDERSTANDS what's really at stake in Israel.
71. #65 - he didn't seem to be talking about
seadog1946 ,   ArthurKill, NY   (05.20.11)
the rootless cosmopolitans' millenia long wanderings through Europe, Asia, Africa or the New World in search of goy gelt... he was alluding to the dangers of being entangled with foreign leaches... and then having to deal with their paid apologists/explainers... be they Palestinian or Israeli. How's the weather in that Levantine backwater, "Marc"... on the southern end of the Arthur Kill, it's raining. It's also friday afternoon, the tug is moored and dinner/happy-hour awaits. Shabbat Shalom, "Marc".
72. #64 split
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.20.11)
The Palis ARE being Palis, and have been so ever since their invention in 1967. That's the problem. When Israel spends the money in the US, it makes US weapons more affordable internationally (more units = lower cost per unit) and provides jobs with benefits; benefits a check wouldn't provide. The US also gets invaluable intelligence and information re: operational reliability, etc of it's weapons systems. It is the US' testing ground. And imagine New Jersey at war with the rest of the US. Do you think they'd need help? Look at a map of the mideast, with Israel (the size of New Jersey) against most all moslem countries, from Libya to Iran.
73. This should NOT be a surprise!
Claudia ,   Tampa USA   (05.20.11)
I can not imagine why on earth anyone would have voted for this Obama idiot, let alone why he received 78% of the vote of American Jews. So you thought a guy raised in Muslim mosques by a muslim father & step father, and a commie mother would be someone that appreciates the Judeo/Christian philosophy and the US Constitution? Or the historic tie of Jews to Israel? Or anything else that both Israel and America hold dear, like freedom? It is no accident his "Arab Spring" is occuring and he is piling on Israel. Obama is the single most threat to freedom I have ever seen since Carter. The second is George Soros. Unless Obama is defeated by the US Congress next week we are all sunk.
74. 46 - From medicine to defense ,...
split ,   US   (05.20.11)
Like what , name some of them ,... Few days ago you have mentioned the colonoscopy pill and took off ,... Sorry to disappoint you pal but your "pill" looks like another lemon. Colonoscopy takes 30-40 minutes including polyps removal and it's much more effective and reliable while your "camera pill" takes 8-10 hours and in case of an inconclusive diagnostic results like abnormalities or polyps the patient still have to go through colonoscopy to investigate it or to remove it. On the top of that Philips's iPill is slightly smaller, better and cheaper - Next time before you start running your mouth do your homework first ,... Colonoscopy Beats ‘Camera Pill’ at Catching Colon Cancer http://news.health.com/2009/07/16/colonoscopy-beats-camera-pill-catching-colon-cancer/
75. 69 - The foreign leaches are the arabs.
split ,   US   (05.20.11)
Sorry pal but I don't see Arabs or any other nation so preoccupied with our presidents, our election or occupying Capital Hill corrupting our politicians extorting handouts and our support the way you do. As a matter of fact the Arabs or anyone else are paying hard cash for our product except you.
76. #65 - Israel "purchased" US manufactured weapons...
seadog1946 ,   ArthurKill, NY   (05.20.11)
aaaaahhhhhhahahahaha. You must be talking about the the $3Billion+ US military "aid" to Israel... minus whatever Israel skims off to support their own military/industrial complex.
77. America supports Netanyahu
gladys ,   los angeles, ca, usa   (05.20.11)
Israel, please do whatever it takes to secure yourselves. The Palestinians are usurpers. The majority of Americans love you and support you, Israel. We have an Anti-American President who doesn't. G-d willing he will be out of office in 2 years.
78. #75 - Sorry
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.20.11)
Sorry pal but you're wrong. The entire world is preoccupied with our elections. Obama has to tackle problems from all over the world. Israel is on the front pages because most people (and members of Congress) support Israel. It's called 'democracy'. Egypt, Jordan, etc also get assistance. What have they returned to the US? As stated, the money they and the Pals get provide no benefit to the US. Which products do they pay hard cash for? Egyptian military is being equipped by the US through grants. Please be so kind as to prove your "corrupting politicians" statement.
79. #76 seadog
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.20.11)
No, we're speaking of the $3 billion aid to Israel that is spent in the US to provide US jobs. The US monitors this very carefully. Israel "supports their own military/industrial complex" by refurbishing this new equipment with preferred Israeli systems (in Israel), after having spent the "full price cost" in the US per agreement.
80. #57
ophir ,   NYC   (05.20.11)
understandable...does Isral really have the ability to end a war today? do u remember the last war where the media kept IDF from doing their jobs? Israel can wipe any and all armies - that isnt the argument...what will be the future after that?! its highly unlikely Israel will annex ne land following a victory as thre will surely be 2 billion arabs marching on her borders the following friday ;-)
81. #79 - sorry Sol, but the "full price cost"
seadog1946 ,   ArthurKill, NY   (05.21.11)
is still US taxpayer money... instead of laundering it through Israel, perhaps an outright military grant to Boeing, General Dynamics or Lockheed Martin would provide tighter US control of US taxpayer money and bring the issue of corporate welfare to domestic scrutiny. Maybe if those Corporations built their weapons on a basis of market demand or speculation, Israel could get a better price and perhaps reduce their current budget surplus. Our current unemployment rate is quite high... what's another additional 100k or so... besides, it would topple the current "anti-Israel" administration. C'mon, Sol, its a win-win situation.
82. In Response To David #8
Jessie ,   USA?   (05.21.11)
We sure do have a "one sided relationship with Israel!" Our administration treats them like redheaded b#$%^&*d stepchilden and they treat us with dignity and respect regardless. (Much like a very famous Personage born in Bethlehem would.) "We give, they take." Yes, we give unasked for advice that's absolutely none of our business and they take it like the true gentlemen they are without telling us what we'd tell them if the situation were reversed! What egotistical chutzpah we exhibit telling another sovereign nation what it needs to do when it's outperforming us in every way measurable?!? "Our blind support is harmful to America?" Let's see, David. Islam is doing a good job of destroying Western civilization, the U.S. and Israel are basically the only two strong Judeo-Christian nations left to fight the battle and the U.S. is greatly weakened. This is a war of good vs evil. Who do you want to win?The bad guys? The ones that want to kill you, your family, your dog and, rape your Mom and sisters?
83. 78 - Egypt, Jordan, etc also get assistance.
split ,   split   (05.21.11)
Wrong again, that's a bribe to buy you a peace on your borders a the matter of fact just a little over $16.50 a year per head in Egypt ,...
84. #71 & #76 seadog, WRONG AGAIN
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (05.21.11)
Why do you always change the subject, first I was responding to #8, nowhere in his post does state "foreign leeches", but in fact was talking about what he considered a one-sided relationship, I pointed out how that was incorrect and why. Then of course as you always do, you began to put words in the mouth of #8 that he NEVER used i.e. "foreign leeches".when in fact he was quoting Thomas Jefferson and his view of foreign policy which again doesn't use derogatory phrases., in addition you talked about "stuff" and "materialism" i other words that neither #8 or myself used. Put simply #8 thought the Israeli/USA relationship one-sided, I proved it wasn't. You jumped in and became derogatory with regards to Israel, as is expected of you, but as myself and others have noted, your facts are almost always incorrect, and this time was no different. I guess you just enjoy your bitterness, hey it's a free country. I happen to enjoy the truth. BTW, it was sunny and in the 80's today, here in Georgia, in suburbs of Atlanta.
85. Siegfried #58
Non-Jew ,   England   (05.21.11)
FYI, over 50% of Jewish Israelis are themselves black / non-white. (I do not refer to their skin tone in the manner you do because, being married to a black man, I know black people find the term you used offensive, being a term previously associated with apartheid). Please do not stereotype any race or demographic, Jewish or otherwise, as having only one collective view on any matter: to do so is, in itself, being racist. Having visited Israel (where getting on for half of the world's Jews live) many times, as a mixed-race couple I can assure you we have experienced nothing but welcoming attitudes from the people (of all skin tones) we have met there. I therefore cannot accept your claim to be even largely true of Jews in general. Perhaps you are projecting elements of your own attitudes to Jews, upon Jews?
86. dog/split
Non-Jew ,   England   (05.21.11)
The latest proposal by the new PA/Hamas alliance is to start paying a (pretty healthy) wage to all Arabs convicted of terrorism and held in Israeli prisons. Not just 'palestinian' terrorists, you understand, but also Israeli Arab terrorists. these wages will be paid from the aid money they receive (from the US amongst many others) .......is this what the world really wants to pay for?
87. 78 - The entire world is preoccupied with our elections ,...
split ,   US   (05.21.11)
B.S. !!! There're over 70 Million Americans with German, 43 M with Irish, 37 M with Italian, 30 M with English, 11 M with Polish roots plus other minorities from Europe and not one of them is meddling in US affairs and screwing this Country and fellow Americans the way you do
88. #87; split, APPLES AND ORANGES
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (05.21.11)
Let's see if we take a look at Germany, Italy, Ireland and Britain (the countries and people you named). Now how many of those countries are surrounded by other countries they seek to destroy them? Plus have been under constant terrorist attacks for over 60 years. Not mention multiple wars, were the stated goal was to: "drive them into the sea", or "a war of total annihilation"? Oh that's right, NONE OF THEM! I remember watching a "Three Stooges" episode not long ago, it reminded me of you split. It was about the country of Moronica (a Euphemism for Nazi Germany since it was made during WW2), the one next to Splitsville. It had a lot common with your logic, hateful and silly both at the same time.
89. #81 seadog
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.21.11)
I would compare this to the WPA in which the US Gov't had make-work projects to keep people employed. In this case, however, private industry is involved with the guarantee of a buyer from an industry that we need. You are right; it is a win-win situation.
90. #83, #87 split
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.21.11)
#83- All countries that get assistance get it for a reason. The bottom line is that the US is rearming and modernizing the Egyptian and Jordanian armies. It is also part of Obama's desire to reach out to the Muslim world. #87- "meddling in US affairs and screwing this Country and fellow Americans" Please define what you mean by this, with proof, other than you do not agree with most Americans and most of Congress that they support Israel. While you're at it, you might be so kind as to prove your "corrupting politicians" statement, as requested. Democracy upsets you?
