31. Abdel Karim #26 why?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.24.11)
If your parents ran away, why do you think you have any rights? As far as I am concerned you have no rights whatsoever. Don't like it, TFB.
32. To: No. 26
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.24.11)
"Probably if the 1948 war did not happen I would most likely be still living in my parents' home on my parents' land of pre1948." But the war DID happen and it was initiated by the ARABS, who LOST. It really does not get much simpler to understand. And your parents left of their own free will, and therefore they -- and their descendants (i.le., you) -- have no claim upon land they voluntarily abandoned. Not that you can produce a deed, in any event, but I'm sure you have a whole drawerful of rusty old keys.
33. Right of return should be minimum
Abdalla   (05.24.11)
And Israel needs to pay . Just like Germany did/does
34. #33 - Hysterically funny
Michael ,   Israel   (05.24.11)
Are you a stand-up comic? That's really very, very funny! No one (in his right mind) would attempt to portray Israel to be Nazis. No right. No return. No question.
35. Here is my Answer : To # 31 & 31
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (05.24.11)
Well in 1948 there was war and deadly violence. My parents ran away to escape violence and death. And when war was over my parents have the full right to go back to their home. But the political situation in this particular case precludes the possibility of going back to their home. So, wisely, and from legitimate, legal, and humane viewpoints, my parents,or their offspring, should be entitled to some kind of material compensation !
36. To: No. 33
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.24.11)
Why? Nearly one million Jews were expelled from their homes in Arab and Moslem lands with little more than the clothes on their backs. They were TRUE refugees; what did they receive by way of reparations? Nothing. Not a damned thing. The Arabs who left Israel did so voluntarily. They made the decision to ABANDON their homes. They should pay Israel for having made it necessary for Israel to pack up their trash!
37. To: No. 35
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.24.11)
No, your parents ran away because they voluntarily chose to do so. Arabs who did not run away are citizens of Israel to this day, enjoying all of the rights and privileges of citizenship although not all of the obligations. Life is all about choices. You can stay and protect and defend that which is yours; or you can abandon that which is yours. Clearly, your parents chose the latter. Thomas Mann said it best -- you cannot always go home again. That said -- if you live in Jerusalem as you purport, then you are well aware that you and your parents, and your siblings, became citizens of Israel the minute Israel annexed East Jerusalem and unified Jerusalem. You can claim that, and you want material compensation, too? I guess your allegiance to money exceeds whatever supposed love you have for the land. That makes your motive purely pecuniary, not nationalistic.
38. Mr Abdel Karim Salim
moshe ,   Tivon, Israel   (05.24.11)
Mr. Abdel Karim Salim, Israel will PROBABLY agree with compensation to those Arabs that can show proof that they left their homes due to the 1948 warfare...why PROBABLY ? Because the Jews that left their homes from North Africa are entitled to the same type of compensation. Their property was confiscated, or sold at FALSE "market value"... This is a troublesome calculation. How does one separate those Arabs that willingly left the danger in the expectation to return to loot... How does one separate the Jews that freely, honestly sold their holdings ? moshe
39. #35: wow really? there was war and deadly violence?
who started it?   (05.24.11)
Excuse me, but it was you, Arabs, who stared this deadly violence. You know my parents also lived in that time. They had no where to run to. You Arabs started (or rather continued) deadly violence against the 600,000 Jews living in former British Palestine with the noble aim of butchering every single men, women and child. You succeeded to some extent - many Israelis died and were wounded in that war. But since the Jews had no where to run to, like your parents had, and thanks to our fighters' bravery and cleverness in running the war - we won. Barely, but we won. Don't you dare blaming the Jews for your own violence and barbarism.
40. #33: open history books. Germany, just like the Arabs
was to blame   (05.24.11)
You dare comparing Israel to Germany? Germany masacred 6 million Jews who were innocent people, who didn't attack Germany in anyway. Germany started world war 2 by attacking countries who did nothing against it. The Arabs started a war against Israel and not vice versa. But even though your comparison is absurd, the Arabs WILL get lots of compensations if they agree for once and for all to end the conflict. Not because they deserve it, but because everyone wants to end the conflict.
41. Right of return ?
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (05.24.11)
Like in the days of Masada, the people of Israel will never give the right of return to Arabs. We'd rather die fighting than give up.
42. The PA wants half of Israel now and the rest later
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (05.24.11)
43. #2 - if not, why do you demand $$$, action by US?
William ,   Israel   (05.24.11)
When you want something, you beat everyone in the global community either through threats or manipulation, demand money based on mis-placed guilt, and call for the world to agree to change definitions of Apartheid and Intl laws, and revise history so as to delegitimize Israel, steal Jewish land and holy sites and arrest her citizens in global courts. And the minute a obligation is handed to you (out of 1000 given to Israel), you claim "it's internal, it's none of your business". What a disgusting, parasite your population has become. Perpetual welfare recipients and basic bratty kids with a penchant for death and destruction. When you start the 3rd Intifada (against your own advice), when you get the ass-kicking you deserve perhaps the world will respond with "sorry. It's internal. It's none of our business"
44. #22 - addendum to your post, Sarah
William ,   Israel   (05.24.11)
Many "Palestinians" claim to have been forced from their homes but a mountain of documents from observers and soldiers showed many Arabs left by their own valition. Journalists were all over the land during the war and none of them wrote about abuse or forced expulsion as they didn't see it happen. UN officials were here too and didn't see a thing. The final nail in the coffin of lies? Soldiers found the doors to homes LOCKED. People walked away with a few items and not a donkey cart full of valuables as Arabs claimed. This is an indication of people leaving for a few days expecting to return - like a weekend trip - not running for one's life during war-time.
45. Whose business is it?
matthew ,   Tel Aviv   (05.24.11)
Borders need to be defined in the context of a peace settlement and not dictated to Israel by Obama
46. Compensation can be acceptable
Ze'ev ,   Lod   (05.24.11)
Given that descendants of the refugees give up the "right of return" I think we can pay them. If that's what it takes to finally solve the conflict then why not? The problem is that they/their leaders don't want to be paid.
47. The Question Will Never Be Asked
Edward ,   Savannah, USA   (05.24.11)
The question about the "refugee" problem will NEVER be put to obamafraud because they know better!!! He already kicked out one reporter who dared to ask him how his policies differed from those of Marx!!! All American Liberal Media is in the back pocket of the poser. They have the same goal, to destroy the U.S. and Israel too since neither country is tolerant of their Marxists views and policies.
48. Abdel Karim Salim #35 some facts
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.25.11)
During the American Revolution many Americans did not side with the rebels. They were loyal to the British crown. Guess what happened to them and their property at the end of the war? Over 100,000 people born in America were expelled, losing their citizenship, lands, businesses, everything they couldn't carry with them. To this day their relatives have not been given a single square millimeter of land or any sort of compensation. They chose the losing side and paid for it. Your parents picked the wrong side. They lost - too bad too sad.
49. Get Rid of "Silliness"
Duncan Campbell ,   Hebron, CT   (05.25.11)
The Right of Return should be the FIRST issue dealt with and dismissed. Whatever else may transpire in an Israeli/ Palestinian negotiation, the self -implosion of the Jewish State will not be on the table.
50. IT WILL HAPPEN
Alan Cohen ,   Japan   (05.25.11)
It will happen, eventually !! As per Bible Prophecy, Israels capitol will be Divided and the Mid East Is shaping up according to Revelations in the Bible, It is easy to see, God Bless Israel, they is going to be tough roads ahead for the Jews of Israel....Read Daniels in OT...but at the end Israel will be taking months just to berry the dead of all its Enemies after being Invaded...Hundred or moreThousands will die !!
