you were not a Jew before baptism. It doesn't work like that. To be a Jew you need a Jewish mother or to go through a formal conversion. If a real Jew gets baptised he is still a Jew, but a sinner. If he later wants to come back to Judaism, he doesn't have to convert, only to repent.

From my studies, yes, the Communists were not real thrilled with Zionism and Jewish nationalism; however, an intriguing bio of Ben Gurion that I read in the early nineties placed him in Moscow on the heels of the Revolution, going to various conventions representing Jewish worker issues and so on. And, of course, Israel didn't really break with the USSR till the Nasser period, when the Russians took the Arab side in those pre-Quartetish days. This is actually an intriguing topic. I can see many sides of it. One quesiton: Does anyone know if Ben Gurion had any contacts with Lenin? I appreciate your point about the USSR and Israel. That seems to make a lot of sense. As to Lenin, Hitler, Ahmadinejad, Qaddafi, Arafat(yes), Bin Laden, etc. being Jewish, these things won't die and I wouldn't put too much stock in them one way or the other, since the historical results won't change. And, of course, most of us are aware of how the Mormons view some of these issues. Bottom line is we all breathe the same air, put our pants on one leg at a time, and are all mortal. Roger Peyrefitte has written a book "les Juifs" where he tells that De Gaulle and Queen Elizabeth II , amongst others , have Jewish roots . So if you go far enough , many people certainly can have Jewish ancestors . In the other direction , many Jews must have non Jewish asncestors too .

The late Dr. Gene Scott sent me a genealogical chart of Queen Elizabeth's with her ancestry going back to King David. Pretty heady stuff, to say the least. It does seem in the Old World Jews mixing with non-Jews or Christians was something of a taboo issue. In the USA during the 19th and early 20th centuries, the issue was Native American mixing with European;however by the 1970s or so that was pretty much a non-issue. And, of course, the very explosive issue was between Black and White, especially with Jim Crow laws and the one drop rule. That seems to be levelling off in most of the country,although I'm sure some will continue to make it a problem. The issue of Jew and non-Jew in the states seems to be more of a religious issue between families than anything else, but on a societal level it's pretty tame. Adam and Eve, eh? How long have these two been doing their thing? Seems they will always transcend our limitations vis a vis race, religion, class, ethnicity, etc. Gotta watch em like hawks :^).
