1. Under the leadership of Kenyan Muslim Europe funding demise
Marco ,   Spain   (05.27.11)
Funding the Muslim Brotherhood and stricter Sharia law is not supporting democracy. Most of the funds will go into the pockets of new dictators and sponsoring terrorism against Europe.
2. MORE MONEY TO KILL JEWS AND CHRISTIAN COPTS !
Sc   (05.27.11)
Hussein Obama and the corrupted Sarkozy are dangerous fools
3. Real smart, support the Muslim Brotherhood.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (05.27.11)
If anyone had any doubts, now it is confirmed - the Western world is led by fools, morons, incompetents, & appeasers. These people only know how to throw money at problems, it never worked in the past, so let's do it again. The EU is heading towards bankruptcy, the US is on the same road. Inflation is increasing everywhere because of artificially low interest rates & printing money. The dollar is going down the toilet, saved only by the disasterous economic situation in Europe (Greece, Portugal, Spain & Ireland). The Arab Spring is just wishful thinking - there isn't going to be any democracy, just more Islamic tyranny.
4. Fantasy
leo ,   nyc   (05.27.11)
Whether the money ends up funding rockets or dancing girls in Paris, one thing is certain, it won't help the masses. Flushing money down a toilet would be as productive...
5. The West is blind
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (05.27.11)
Poor stupid, delusional West, judging everything by their own standards and their own desires. Aalready earmarking millions and millios to give to - what? do they really believe western-style democracy - or any type of democracy - is going to take root in these countris? Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, who knows what in Tunisia and I can't see Gadaffi going despite the West saying he should leave. As if Gadaffi gives a fig what the west says. As for Syria, the West is busy rapping Syria's knuckles and not much else. Why doesn't the West look to its own flailing economy, its incredible immigration problems created under the guise of multi-culturism, lousy health-care services and heaven alone knows what else.
6. To No. 3
Raf ,   athens   (05.27.11)
I guess you're pretty upset that we will finally move towards the democracty that you have been teasing us with. No more corrupt dictators to assist you in your ethnic cleansing. Learn to live with it or better yet, start behaving like a dignified country.
7. To No. 2
Raf ,   Athens   (05.27.11)
Thank God that your Coptic Orthodox Pope recognizes the injustices Israel has delt to the Palestinians and is wise enough to separate such grievances from the strife that the Copts experienced under Mubarak and continue to experience at the hands of the ignorant Islamists. I suggest you do the same rather than lump all issues together just because it makes things processable by your simple mind
8. ''rich nations'' are in bankrupt but give billions to arabs
(05.27.11)
9. G8 to 'pledge another 20B for Arab spring
tiki ,   belgium   (05.27.11)
I thought that Christmas was only in December, so time enough for these 'generous but broke policymakers to see if this Arab Spring doesn't turn into an Arab winter, before handing over their buckets of 'ignorant taxpayers money to the ever needy Arabs. Havn't they learned yet that money can't buy friends, health and democracy? Probably not.
10. # 3.. You are right, tell me....
Salomon   (05.27.11)
How comes that when you deposit your money, you hardly get an interest of 1% or 1.5% and... If you ask a loan to the same bank, you have to pay 15 or 16 % annual ? The worse of all , that they oblige you a monthly payment, that doubles the interest they charge you, did THEY think about this these fools? Of course they did, because EASY COME EASY GO to all these bankers.
11. IMF'cup!
Keren ,   IL-BR   (05.27.11)
Is it absolutely clear now why Dominique Strauss Kahn was overthrown and humiliated? He was a sane and correct man. These are MAD men and should be overthrown quickly. They can not keep freely going in their delusion of being gods. The whole humanity is at stake with these 8 MADS!
12. "Internet Davos"
Keren ,   IL-BR   (05.27.11)
Few days ago, there happened a meeting with the most important enterprisers related to Internet, with Zuckerberger-Facebook,and Schmit(I think) from Google, among others,in Paris. Sarkozi IS pressuring on Internet control! Only with masses under control, these MADS could keep in their sinister folies. Hopefully, everybody in the free world will wake up VERY quickly!
13. Premature and naive
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (05.27.11)
Not one of them has more than a guess as to who will be leading these Arab "Spring" countries.
14. a $20 billion symbolic gesture to show support for democracy
zionist forever   (05.27.11)
There are lots of very poor countries around the world where the standard of living is bellow that of countries like Egypt and they have never been offered a penny. A couple of arab states have a revolution to topple dictators and 3 months later before they have even held an election the G8 are now pledging $20 billion to help them. Why does Egypt need billions of dollars? It might not be on the same level as Saudi Arabia but there is plenty of oil and gas in Sinai which they export. Theuy earn millions through the Suez Cannal and their tourism industry is probably worth billions. So why do we suddenly need to start throwing billions at them just because they got rid of a crooked dictator that made sure the profits from theese valuable assets went into the pockets of his family. The assets are there, what the G8 needs to do is help them use the money they already have to benefit the country as a whole rather than the Mubaraks. All these countries pledging money have real economic problems in their own countries and are making cutbacks left right and centre at home but as soon as they meet with their G8 buddies they are all competing to outbd each to be the most generous. If Syria & Lebanon eventually find real democracy does that mean there will be more money handed out. What about Jordan if the Heshimite regime is toppled? Will that mean pledging more money? The world has become obsessed with bailing out the arabs. The palestinians get billions donated, they have spescific construction projects financed seperatey as goodwill gestures from foreign countries. Everytime they say we can't afford to pay our employess everybody is rushing to write the next blank check. Egypt had its little revolution and the US donated $150 million as compensation for lost tourism during the revolution. Write off $1 billion debt owed to the US, agree to guarantee more loans and you have morons like John kerry begging Congress to give even more money. The G8 meet and they end up pledging $20 billion between them to help a few arabs states because they decided to get rid of a dictator.
15. Imagine what this money could've done in a democracy !?
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.27.11)
16. Cynicism and absolute lack of Principles !
Keren ,   IL-BR   (05.27.11)
This is the way these 8 are running the world! Bin Laden was not killed, otherwise it would had been shown, but the most grave of it all is what was done to Dominque Strauss Kahn! IT MUST BE FIXED AND CLARIFYED! Billions of human beings can not be run by this kind of 8 mads!
17. LONG SPRING,NO SIGN OF SUMMER
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (05.27.11)
Giving away MY money to people who can look after themselves seems a bit premature. What we've seen so far isn't too encouraging. As far as I can see, these so-called Arab democratic revolutions are turning out to be processes that replace tyrants that the evil Arab League don't like with tyrants that the evil Arab League do like. And the west is picking up the tab and doing the hard military task while the evil Arab League sits on the side-line criticising us and singing their usual battle hymn,'Onward Christian Soldiers'. It looks to me that Obama is in the evil Arab League's pocket ,and their fingers are in ours. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
18. boycott israel
bill ,   canada   (05.27.11)
19. Regarding the G8
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.27.11)
Ottawa is not preparing any major new package of bilateral assistance. Efforts to help Egypt and Tunisia can and should be handled through international financial institutions. Canada has already contributed additional capital to help them lend more. Those development banks can respond to needs by speeding up a focus in North Africa. 67 borders: Canada stands alone at the G8 on that one.
20. #11 - stick a fork in DSK... he's done.
seadog1946 ,   ArthurKill, NY   (05.27.11)
21. C'mon Ynet... you failed to mention the
(05.27.11)
G8's stance on the Israeli/Palestinian peace process... Haaretz is more current.
22. which is not mentioned
onething   (05.27.11)
all major banks in the west are holding billions of frozen gaddhafi assets. rebels of libya have repeatedly asked to have the money returned yet there is no response. It seems like they stole the money and now are pretending to offer 20 bn in help? is this for real?
23. #8: Very well said!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (05.27.11)
Britain is so broke they are letting people die because the NHS has collapsed and the Royal Navy is now the Royal Rowing Boat Club! Couldn't even fight off an Iranian Zodiac with a destroyer! Fighting was not an option said the Royal Marine! Why don't the Arab Oil Sheiks help their own? They have billions and billions of dollars but they too are dictators and potentates and who knows, may the next on the list! The G8's policy is probably based on the premise that if they are nice to the Arabs, then when the Arabs have completed their take over of Europe, they will be nice to the Europeans!
24. Weak step gentlemens and Mrs. Merkel
Lone Gunmen ,   J-lem   (05.27.11)
You want to give them money and you think it will stop the tsunami of illegals? Wrong move, money wasted and there will be more with each year.
25. Arabs don't do democract
norbus ,   jerusalem   (05.27.11)
G8 living on mountains of debt and Arabs don't do democracy. Europe is Hitler 1942 Plan B . So what are they all after
26. I completly agree with #17
Keren ,   IL-BR   (05.27.11)
Specially in the last paragraph. I also think Obama is an arab servant, drawing the other 7 nations to Evil and that the other 7 West "leaders"are just following a serpent that will bite them soon.
27. Not so "rich" G8 opens pockets. Rich Arabs close theirs.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (05.27.11)
Most of those so-called "rich" countries are running serious deficits, while the oil rich Arab countries have trillions in assets. Yet it is the foolish G8 that is offering aid using mostly borrowed money to support some vague "democracy" scheme. What's really behind this is a classic Western urge to "do something, anything!" when faced with problems they don't understand. And rich Arabs are laughing at the stupid kuffar (infidels).
28. Obama can pledge, Congress will decide, Egypt must behave.
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (05.27.11)
You can expect that the US Congress will block every dime of Obama's pledges and promises of billions for the Egyptian military regime if they don't start honoring the demilitarized status of the Sinai by aggressively blocking arms shipmenst to Gaza, and stop meddling in Gaza by violating border control agreements; as well any further dancing with Iran has to stop, or Congress will conclude that Egypt has already been taken over by radical elements.
29. Aren't Arab nations already rich?
William ,   Israel   (05.27.11)
Was there some extra cash laying around in G8 countries that they needed a way to spend? The West already sends billions in the form of petro-dollars to the Arabs in the biggest wealth transfer scheme in human history, why do these guys need an extra cash infusion? First, we buy their oil and support the despots and terrorists. Then we send aid money to the opposition to over-throw the despots and terrorists. While we're poor and eating canned beans, the Arabs negotiate over sushi on a Gulf beach.
30. #6 - Your version of democracy?
William ,   Israel   (05.27.11)
Democracy doesn't end at the ballot box. When the next despotic group comes to power and fails the people, will you revel in your "democracy" when you cannot remove them without violent force? Consider the lessons of Hamas and Hizbullah under democracy, and try not to make the same mistake. It took decades for Eastern Europe to see democracy after totalitarianism and they still aren't perfect. Your hubris will lead you blindly into another despotic leadership who in turn will create wars because they can't answer the needs of their Arab citizens. And being the lemmings you are, you will see value in attacking Israel rather than building an industrial park. You are the last group to speak about "behaving like a dignified country"
