Brian Cohen ,   PeoplesFrontofJudea   (05.27.11)
Remember that Canadian peace keeping efforts go back more than 50 years when Pearson got the UN to separate the sides in '56. However, the UN was well on its way to its current state of inept paralysis when U Thant knuckled under to Nasser and pulled UN peace keeping troops out of the Sinai and helping to cause the '67 war. Canada still has peace keeping troops here, and Harper is not simply a yes-man for Israel. He calls a spade a spade and he sees the Palestinians being the obstacle to peace that they are. He's right. The Palestinians have to get back to the negotiating table, and they still appear to prefer war to peace.
5. Proud to be a Canadian in Israel

A ,   Belgium   (05.27.11)
Considering the leader of Canadas southern neighbor is blatantly hostile towards Israel, seems the only true friends Israel has is Berlosconni, Merkel and your PM Harper. And that takes courage!
14. BTW - the UN has already spoken with resolution 242
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (05.27.11)
"Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force." The Pals, of course, are the odd ball part of the equation, since there never was any country called "Palestine". There is no mandate for the UN to recognize a country called "Palestine" because the UN already decided that peace has to be achieved through negotiations.
15. Ande what if they talk about the 1967 line ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.27.11)
as they add : with swaps of territories . This means that Jerusalem should remain in the hands of whom it belongs : The Israeli People . This "swap" means that we will hold the great part of the Jewish places in Judea Samaria . This means also that we can give away some square inches we don't need .
16. Israel take pro israel stand at g8 meeting
Harvey ,   Israel   (05.27.11)
In Canada a right wing party usually refers to the politics in economic and social behaviour terms. In the context of the article term seems to be used to show a connection with the Netanyahu government which is also called right wing. The fact is that Prime Minister Harper has backed Israel under different leaderships and calls himself pro-Israel in this case because he and his party feels Israel's position is just. His stated moral position has been lost on the world platform, especially amongst the leaders. Prime Minister Harper, recently re-elected with a majority government shines amidst the...what would the Reuters News Agency call them...Left wing leaders?? !
17. O Canada!
Mordechai ,   Canada   (05.27.11)
As a Jew living in Canada, I am so proud of my Prime Minister and his principled stance on Israel. I recently had the pleasure to personally speak with him and see his warm personality . Israel has no better friend than Canada and Canada has no better friend than Israel. To both Canada and Israel, we say: "We stand on guard for thee!"
18. Vive le Canada
Ariel ,   São Paulo - Brazil   (05.27.11)
When people will assume that Israel is the solution and not the problem in the ME , the world will be a better place to live...
19. The true north strong and free ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.27.11)
... indded! Thank you, Canada, for standing up to tyranny. If ever a country belonged on the Security Council, it is Canada! Come September, the tyranny of the great unwashed will come to a very inglorious end. It's about time, too!
20. Stephen Harper makes me proud to be a Canadian
Falafelis ,   Montreal, Canada   (05.27.11)
21. UN the JOKE...Canada denied for supporting Israel, yet Syria
New Union ,   Western Democracies   (05.27.11)
and Libya have been heads of it in recent years. UN-----the worst joke around. End the UN, create the New Union: western democratic loving nations. Period.
22. Israel will prevail.....
Gab's ,   Montreal, Canada   (05.27.11)

23. Canada we salute you.
bless Israel ,   uSA   (05.27.11)
the '67 lines are not a demand that the Israeli's will give to the pals, these are lands won in a war with both Jordan and Egypt that were agreed upon when they were defeated.
24. Brian Cohen . We should be thankfull to
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.27.11)

26. Viva la Canada, Viva la Israel!
jj   (05.27.11)
27. Bravo Mr Harper! Your position is refreshing.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (05.27.11)
Mr Harper shows time and time again his capacity for independent thought and the ability to show a mature grasp of this vexing situation, very much unlike his colleague Obama who, along with the dead-beat Europeans are clinging to a time-tested position that is guaranteed to fail miserably, as it has done so many times before. They keep putting back this same dead, rotting fish on the table when it should be consigned to the garbage. They are incapable of seeing the wisdom of throwing it away and the folly of consistently serving it as it rots more and more before their eyes. And as they do so, the Pals Arabs become more and more entrenched in their delusion that the world stopped before '67. Obama needs to remove pre-'67 borders totally from his vocabulary and stop sending his emissaries to Netanyahu and Abbas to discuss it. It is irrelevant to 2011 and only deserves historical mention. The donkey cart cannot be the reference point for transport in the era of Bugatti and Lamborghini.
28. "most of the other leaders wanted a mention"
