1. Just shows..
shalom_y'all ,   Berlin, Germany   (05.31.11)
how much better off you are as a citizen of Germany.. Maybe Israelis will wake up and see that A LOT is going wrong in Israel and will fight to make it better..
2. "Obv I'd prefer a US passport' well that one comment from 1
David Mizrachi ,   Tel Aviv   (05.31.11)
individual placed there as if it was the main bulk of the story should keep paranoid Americans happy that they are the next best thing for Jews.. aside from the bomb plots and shootings of Jews there. Great selective quotes Ynet... NOT
3. Not just money
Ofir ,   Tel Aviv   (05.31.11)
This is a little biased. I am an Israeli surgeon. With the German passport I was able to undertake an advanced surgery fellowship in the UK it's not just money, having EU citizenship opens up opportunities for study and work which benefit Israelis and Israel. This article is a little unfair.
4. Greed character habit and from day one
Ian   (05.31.11)
5. This bothers me
stan ,   USA   (05.31.11)
Why is it that with a German passport you don't need a visa to enter the US, but with an Israeli passport you do?
6. I have one word for those who choose Germany
Al   (05.31.11)
You damn rats! You are pissing on the non existent graves of our Grandparents. My late fathers entire family was murdered in Auschwitz. My dad used to screem in middle of the night in pain at the memory of that time. He bore that silent pain althoughout his life. Nothing that Germany does today will ever rectify that which they did. They are rats and so are those Israelis who join them. Today after we finally have an Israel thank G-d, we have these pissy ass little pricks who choose to travel there, to work there and to live there. To all those who choose Germany . Choke! You are RATS!
7. A passport is one thing. Living there another.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (05.31.11)
The Jews are outnumbered by Muslims roughly 20:1 in Germany - the same for Europe as a whole. (It's about 10:1 in England and France, 70:1 in Sweden.) On my last visit to Berlin(1998), I found every Jewish institution or establishment had a police presence. In Frankfurt (2006) I found the Jewish Center behind a tall steel gate with police blocking the street, while a visit to the synagogue meant facing security. Why would any Jew want to live like that?
8. # 1, Thanks but no thanks
Menachem ,   Israel   (05.31.11)
For the overhwhelming majority of Israelis, there is no substitute for our beloved homeland Israel. Life quality in Israel today is high and improving whereas Germany and EU are in a steady decline which will show in the years to come. Fix your own problems before preaching to us.
9. refused a US passport
Golan ,   Modiin   (05.31.11)
and people thought i was crazy for refusing a US passport. LOL
10. German - US passports
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (05.31.11)
Where is the loyalty to your country ? Israel is your country - all of you that leave are cowards or selfish. Money speaks louder than country ? your morals have fallen - I pity you.
11. They offer and they owe me something
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (05.31.11)
They have offered and are trying to make up for past errors, so I have no problem taking it. The European passport is more convenient. But Germany owes me. They paid reparations, and for that we are grateful, but dont think for a moment that that will ever restore the huge family I lost, the heritage, growing up in a "civilized" country. A bit of convenience from them I think is due.
12. To 5
Nadav ,   Misgav   (05.31.11)
You asked why germans need no visa but Israelis do. A very simply reason the US gives free visas to countries where less that 3% of visitor make problems. A lof of israelis, overextend their visas and work without permits. That is all
13. Austria refuses to do the same to the children
AustrianJew ,   Ex. Vienna, Austria   (05.31.11)
Austria refuses to do the same to the children and they were worse than the Germans.
14. This is their right and personal choice.
Eli ,   Toronto, Canada   (05.31.11)
Shame on those who judging the Israelis who chose to live in some other country! I see how Israelis prosper in Canada as opposed to a pity life we had in Israel. In addition to that, not every Jew is obliged to accept the destiny to live in Israel. So many of us prefer to live in a free democratic society, enjoying political and financial freedom, and better future for our children. Not every Jew has to accept the prejudice, religious control, nepotism, corruption and luck of opportunities for people without connections. I don’t feel like I owe anything to Israel – because I don’t. When I lived in Israel - I paid all my dues, I served in the army to the last day they ordered me to, and paid every shekel in taxes. I like to live in a multicultural country where everyone respect each other, and an insult of a person based on the origin can put one in jail (and I haven’t heard about anything like that for all the years I’m living here). I like to visit Israel, but it doesn't mean I like to live there. I love Canada, this is my Country and this is my Home.
15. German Passports
Michael ALBERT ,   Holon, Israel   (05.31.11)
Survival had been the name of the game for Jews at all times and all over the world. It is shame that living in Israel fails to offer the benefit of the feeling of safety, so our children and grand children are seeking the alternative of a passport of a safe and tolerant European state. It is shame that situation in our state has deteriorated to an extent, that our youth has to look for alternatives.
16. In Spanish there is a saying...
here ,   now   (05.31.11)
El que niega la patria, niega la madre. (He who denies his homeland, denies his mother) These Israelis who are denying the history of Germany in order to receive economic gain, will, one day, get their comeuppance the rest is just commentary!
17. @1 we are totally waiting for u to show up on 8 Jul 2011
Israeli ,   Israel   (05.31.11)
all of your leftists who will be arriving at our airport. Just can't wait for all of you to show us the right way to goose step to your tune! In other words sweetie sit down and be silent!
18. I think many Jews going to Germany think they are daredevils
Yaniv ,   Israel   (05.31.11)
Many Jews going to Germany have something to prove, just like Germans who come to Israel. Germany has gone from brutal, nazi killers to kind little peace loving wankers, incapable of defending their own nation from Muslim invasion. That's what Jews will find in today's Germany, so you're not adventurous and brave for going as a Jew to the land where your relatives were brutally murdered. And nice Germans coming to Israel, we see the chip on your shoulder. Let it go, both peoples have nothing to prove.
19. Oh dear, Chris Rettenmoser ain't gonna like this. Oh well...
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (05.31.11)
20. Germany
joceline ,   NY USA   (05.31.11)
It turns out that the country that helps Israel the most nowadays (asides from the States) is Germany. We should all go back to claim what is rightfully ours, but with the perspective that we have a Jewish home to return to.
21. Shame!!!!
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (05.31.11)
Israelis who sell their souls for money should be ashamed of themselves, but we always had this kind of things!
22. Here's a better idea....
Nick ,   Toronto   (05.31.11)
Here is a better idea for you, to hell with Europe, come over to Canada. Israelis are well liked, and the country offers tons of opportunities, particularly in western Canada. I love the Israelis that I have met, and here in Toronto, their is a little Israel in Thornhill. I'm always going out to Israeli restaurants and such. Seriously folks, if you haven't thought of coming to the "New World", maybe its time you did. If you find you don't like it, you can always go back. Cheers.
23. 1 trip to Auschwitz should dull their "enthusiasm"
Andrew ,   Miami,FL   (05.31.11)
did it ever occur to these 100k that the they are merely tolerated - not wanted. That REAL citizens make themselves (like Israel) better - or worse - they dont go and pick up and plop down where they think its nice. The Germans have endured 2000+ years of history and made their country nice - for them (not you) Israelis will do the same over time - and they dont want tons of "others" moving in either - stop worshipping the golden calf
24. EU passports
Ameridane ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (05.31.11)
As long as Israel has a funny passport which is read from the right to the left, any European passport is more convenient!
25. Wow, what a bunch of tribalists here!
berlonski ,   berlin   (05.31.11)
26. Barbara @ 10. I trust you have given up your other citizensh
(05.31.11)

27. I think its funny Americans and Olim in Israel slamming
Fay Schefer ,   Buenos Aires /Israel   (05.31.11)
Israelis who want another passport, have these talkbacking Americans even made Aliyah? to 'home'.. and have these Olim given their nationality of their birth place and put US passports in the bin? somehow I doubt it.

Elise   (05.31.11)
Enough with those multiple passports. Anyone getting a second passport should be made to relinquish the first one.
