31. EMOTIONAL SUBJECT-Be rational
Wade ,   NYC USA   (06.01.11)
Let Arabs govern themselves. Not as a reward for loving Jews, but as a practical measure. Let the PA worry about their schools, hospitals, streets, etc. The Arab populations of the Jerusalem neighborhoods are a burden on Israel. Find out how much Israeli budget goes for their welfare payments and health services. Prof. Naveh, however, needs to explain how the intertwined neighborhoods will be policed and governed. Jews derive no benefit from governing Al-Issawiyah or Shuafat.
32. The conjured hallucinations of
CC   (06.01.11)
a post-Zionist deluded man who already sold his soul for money and a possible sabbatical at a foreign hostile antisemitic university/college.
33. #30 ghs
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.01.11)
No, you are the one playing stupid. We know very well what we are talking about. What you are hinting at involves white-washing what is really going on. But of course you'll continue as your blinders are glued on.
34. Impossible to secure.
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (06.01.11)
You mean anyone could walk in from the West Bank, carrying all of the weaponry they like, continue on to anywhere in Jerusalem -- or, for that matter, anywhere else in Israel -- and detonate themselves anywhere they felt like? No, that won't work.
35. Let's see ghs, what possible reason
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (06.01.11)
could Arabs have for hating Jews: Oh, yes, we Jews had the temerity of returning to our homeland and establishing a state, one which was democratic and welcoming to the Arabs who resided here as well as the Druse, Bedouin, Christians, Armenians and Samaritans, etc. But wait, Arab brothers in surrounding countries, five nations plus the native Arab population within Israel attacked us. By some miracle, we won. In the meantime, about 700,000 Arabs residing in what had been the region of Palestine went packing, mostly at the behest of the surrounding Arab nations but with the stipulation that all could return after the Zionist "hordes" were defeated. Promises of pillaging and instant wealth became living fantasies in the minds of Arab exiles. Of course, the armies were defeated and only those Arabs who remained in Israel were allowed to stay. And ghs, let me remind you that Israeli Arabs are full members of the democratic nation of Israel and Arabs have all the same rights as Jews including Arabic as an official language, welfare benefits, schooling and university and old-age pensions. In fact, and 98% of the Israeli Arabs know it, life within Israel is much better for them than it could ever possibly be in any of the surrounding countries. So what are you angry about? Of course our system is flawed. It's flawed for Jews too. What are you doing about it other than complaining on Ynet? And, incidentally, after our War of Independence, 900,000 Sephardic Jews were all sent packing without anything but their clothes on their backs. No compensation, in spite of all their oil money, has ever been paid by any Arab regime. Nonetheless, after about ten years (unlike your compatriots outside Israel) all were settled although the hardship experienced by our Sephardic Jews was very painful. So tell us, ghs, what are your concerns and why are you angry?

i'am a berber not an arab i don't hate you ,we also suffered from turks ,arabs jews ,french who have taken our land by force and treat us like animals, but we can't expell them out because they was born and grown up here .the same story of the arabs they was born in palestine so have the right to live in.
37. How about a Uranus passport, Mr. Naveh?
Jake   (06.01.11)
After reading your article, it's quite obvious you speak the language from there.

solomon ,   bklyn   (06.01.11)
I spent time with Berbers in Morocco and fell in love with them. I learned that they joined together with the Jews of the area to resist the Moslem conquest of the 600's. The only talk of expulsion is when the arabs state they want a state "Palestine" with no Jews. Jews however would let the arabs stay; there are many in Israel. But Israelis refuse the false theory that 'the Jews do not belong there as all the land is, and always was, arab'. History proves this lie. Salaam; Shalom; Peace.
39. Jewish passport
DR ,   Hebron   (06.01.11)
We already had a Jewish passport to the death camps tattooed on our arms so why not a Jerusalem passport which in time will amount to the same thing when we will be forced to relive the past because people like you haven't learned from it.
40. Rationality necesitates logical reasoning
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (06.02.11)
You are correct in suggesting that in order to be rational we must not allow our emotions to drive us. But it does not follow that counter-intuitiveness is sufficient, or even strictly necessary, for rationality. A rational action must be connected to a desired result via a vald if-then logarithm. "if we do X (although we don't like it) we will get Y (which we need)". Your implied logarithm- if Israel relinquishes control of majority-Arab neigborhoods of Jerusalem, then it will save resources is not valid. The result of this transfer will be a state of constant urban warfare such as occured in Baghdad during 2004-2007, where the green-zone and other areas populated by coalition personnel were under constant threat of sniper and mortar fire from nearby residential neigborhoods, and required at least round-the-clock sentries, patrols, and supressive artilery fire to remain functional (that's assuming nobody tried to block supply routes, storm the perimeter, or launch mid-range or long-range missles).
41. This from someone
BH ,   Iowa   (06.02.11)
old enough to remember the last time Jerusalem was "shared" from 1948 to 1967. Epic cluelessness from someone who should know better.
42. numedia #36: Are there any Jews left
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (06.02.11)

47. Jerusalem
Ray ,   Belfast, UK   (10.02.11)
This is one of the silliest suggestions I've heard. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and has been for more than 3,000 years. Compromise is ridiculous.
