1. $ 235.7 million dor David's sling?
dorothy ,   gilgil, kenya   (06.02.11)
God bless America, God bless Israel MIGHTLY and may their enemies be defeated forever.
2. Relations of mutual benefit
Ze'ev ,   Lod   (06.02.11)
I bet US gets the technology that it funds. So this is a win-win situation for both allies.
3. Um, "record breaking"?!? Come on, YNET!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.02.11)
I read the article but still don't understand what "record" was broken. The grants for defense systems? The grand total is $3.44 billion? We all bear in mind, of course, that whatever new systems Israel develops, America reaps the benefit as well. We all note as well, that Arab countries and Iran are the source of crises, strife, violence and destruction....oh yea, and lots of oil and gas. Aside from that, the Arabs and Persians are not known in the past few centuries for being the great sources of knowledge or development in anything. Why is the language of computers English and not Arabic (or Chinese for that matter)? Why are the great medical universities in the west? Why has the greatest innovation in the past few centuries come from all the non-Muslim countries?
4. This is no free aid.
Observer 1 ,   Chrangbegbo, Ghana   (06.02.11)
This is no philanthropic gesture! It is a win-win situation. The US knows what they will reap from another groundbreaking and sophisticated Israeli invention. It's just fair that they make some input in terms of some miserable millions of dollars. Were they not to do it that the Lord would have used another channel to finance it. So Ynet, tell me something I don't know.
5. to talkbackers: Churchill did not say to the USA
(06.02.11)
''send us the tools because you get a better deal out of it than me anyway and hey you gave those no-good Germans all that money in the 1930s and anyway without British genius your American weapons would suck ass''.... he said ''send us the tools and we will finish the job''. As it turned out Britain was too small too finish the job alone, but at least the speech sounded polite.
6. Counting Ckickens Before They are hatched
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (06.02.11)
Rather then just reading Congressional Republican and AIPAC press releases, it would be better to look at the overall budget negotiations. Something for Israel may survive, maybe. But a US default is just as likely. Before it is said and done, even defense will be on the table along with health care for the elderly and arm subsidies and all foreign aid. This was passed by one subcommittee of one house controlled by the opposition party. Military R&D may be eliminated entirely. Yesterday the US House voted for default rather than paying the bills. Nothing is as it appears on the surface. This is just an opening bid in the bargaining.
7. #3 ''what have the Romans ever done for us?''
Splitter   (06.02.11)
...er, the aquaducts?... well yes, but apart from the aquaducts. ...education!... well OK but apart from the aquaducts and education what have the Romans ever done for us? ...ROADS !... well OK but apart from the aquaducts, education and the roads , what have the Romans ever done for us ? etc
8. its not our money we should not accept it
Golan ,   Modiin   (06.02.11)
the americans are committing suicide with their ridiculous spending. And the price tag is too high, not in dollars but in American interference. (and while I understand this is part of a preparation for the war with Syria, Lebanon, and Iran) we need to be independent and responsible for our own security. and that starts with allowing Israeli citizens to arm themselves with light weapons.
9. viva israel
viva ataturk   (06.02.11)
i wander if we can not spend on the defance budget for on or two years and pay the pal. off . it can work?
10. #7 good analogy
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.02.11)
About 2000 years ago, the ruling elite of Israel allied itself with the Roman occupiers. They became increasingly corrupt. With time, the ruling elite started hating the Jewish culture and Jewish tradition. Eventually, the Roman emperors, with the collaboration of the elite, started oppressing Jewish culture leading to the Great Revolt and later to the Bar Kochva Revolt which ended with a genocidal massacre of the faithful Jews. So yes, history shows that the Romans brought things like aquaducts and better roads (the average Jew was already educated), but the price was corruption, loss of identity, loss of freedom and cultural genocide.
11. US funds to Israel
jsrRoger ,   USA   (06.10.11)
It is in the best interest of America as well as Israel that America shares in the financial burden of defense of "The West"...In view of the hatred that surrounds Israel, all the civilized world should be in favor of Israel having the capabilities for a strong defense.
