31. why publish this dumb rant?
yoni ,   tel aviv   (06.03.11)
not one point that had any logic in it in the entire article. He did not even address the fact that smoking kills people and costs the public healthcare system lots of money in complications which comes out of the nonsmokers pockets. the smokers are voluntarily killing themselves and we are paying for it. aside from the fact that we are responsible for the innocent children who get addicted because of society and marketing. the author of this article is an accomplice to murder and child abuse by supporting smoking. either that or just dumb
32. Sir
(06.03.11)
you are angry you have the choise to put down your angerit is a personal choice to do it to your selfe so a cigarett is not harm or may you slap your cheeks or go out to walk buy a new thing i use to do this .. but smoking is a habitt it is a harmfull to the smokers and to the invirument
33. 12 Michael I understand you!
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.03.11)
When i was a child i had to undergo an intervention. My parents told me ,we go to the cinema, and i found myself ,instead in the hospital. This was a big trauma.Till to day i hate doctors and hospitals. I know i am not right, but no reasoning helps. Shabat Shalom.
34. It is a little Police-Statish.
noa ,   israel   (06.03.11)
But the Truth of the matter is, that many smokers don't care about nonsmokers. They will blow smoke in your face; take extra time from work to go out and smoke, and generally smell bad. Social lines are set, as nonsmokers don't sit with smokers for the only reason that they don't want to get second-hand cancer. And why are such young ones smoking? I am just as nervous as a smoker, just choose to exercise a little self-control.
35. When they leave me alone I'll leave them alone
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (06.03.11)
In the mean time their cigarette smoke and litter affects me.
36. Every smoker spends the last 5 years of his life
Moshe ,   Netanya   (06.03.11)
fighting cancer (40-45, 60-65, 80-85). Who pays for this? We
37. Smokers be damned
Ian ,   Israel   (06.03.11)
Smokers here have no respect for the law anyway .If they want to kill themselves by smoking let them do it in their homes and not in public places. BAN SMOKING IN PUBLIC PLACES!
38. "nothing worse"
Perry ,   Brampton Canada   (06.03.11)
Hey CO Kyle: I want to trade lives with you if so far in yours there is nothing worse than walking through a cloud of ciggarette smoke. Re-read the article for a few things that the author sees as being worse.
39. finally, someone who understands freedom
michelle ,   usa   (06.03.11)
great article. except you forgot the slippery slope argument. smoking is bad, but first they came for the communists. then it will be certain types of fats (see, the US), and then people will start to propose bans on candy (see, the US). Freedom means honestly educating people and allowing them to make a decision. if you want to make smoking illegal, then its illegal and noone can do it. but if you cant garner the support to make it illegal, high levels of regulations create and unnecessary government interference in people's lives. smokers! get a life! you dont need a regulation to stop you from smoking! take it on yourself and exercise your right to choose. finally, the government in israel should make business ethics within israel its first priority. i have never heard of ANYTHING in israel causing more stress and heartache to everyone than the current state of affairs between people in business with each other. this is harmful to everyone's health.
40. Smoking laws
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (06.03.11)
Why can't we (humans) just burn down all tobacco farms in the world - no tobacco for cigarettes ! Everyone would have to cut the disgusting habit "cold turkey". STOP selling cigarettes !!
41. #18 Yasmina, Tell your father world is marching forward.
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.03.11)
To be part of this march, we need to be open minded, to accept changes. Women in the M.E. needed to hide their beautiful faces once, but no more. Your father needs to evaluate what family honor means. He will understand wearing hair our by his daughter brings no shame on him or the family. Billions of women wear their hair out today. Smoking was once a sign of manhood, of accomplishment. Men smoked to show their maturity. Exactly the opposite is true now: a man who smokes is uninformed of the harm it does, he is immature, he will die younger without accomplishing much. In California people are not allowed to smoke in office builkdings, not at their places of work, not in restaurants or even pubs. People smoke in private if they have the addiction. It is similar to religion which also is an addiction that does not make any sense.
42. #33 ORA, Hospitals are real
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.03.11)
I am sure if your parents tried harder, they could have explained to you why you needed to go to the hospital. We didn't need to fool our children when they were growing up because they grew up knowing the real world around them. We encouraged them to engage in sports and it was obvious smoking was an obstacle to succeeding in sports. As far as I know, they never tried tobacco nor harder drugs. I understand you Ora, you still don't accept that g is a legend, an invention to fool people into submission, not a reality. Religion is like a smoke from a cigarette, while leaving you feeling a little intoxicated, it smell badly. But you and I need to coexist, so let's just agree not to do what's unpleasant to the other in public. This was my point.
43. #39 Michelle YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND FREEDOM.
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (06.03.11)
Freedom comes with responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is to live in a way that isn't harmful to others. That's where smokers fall down. Michelle's attitude and mine differ as anarchy differs from anarchism. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
44. Yashir Koach to Yigal Sarna
Brian Schiff ,   Southfield,Mi.   (06.03.11)
No,I don't smoke, but the campaign against second hand smoke is more cowardly and fraudulent than the nonsence regarding global warming.. http://www.fumento.com/disease/smoking.html
45. Scientists smoke or used to smoke
Yossef   (06.03.11)
because nicotine is good for the brain, it activates brain connections. Sex is also good BTW.
46. Author is 100% right.
IamJoseph ,   Sydney   (06.04.11)
If anyone wants to stop smokers let them invent a healthy smoke. If they cannot then they are the failures. One's health can only be measured by the amount of unhealthy things they can withstand. Those who can withstand smoking have strionger lungs than those who cannot.
47. maybe we should just start pepper spraying smokers
Dave   (06.04.11)
in public places, maybe then they would get the hint
48. a modest proposal
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.04.11)
Deport all the smokers to Jordan together with the Palestinians, the left-wing intellectual traitors, the self-hating Jews, the secular and the "foolish" Yigal Sarna who dares to express an unpopular opinion
49. The only minority
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (06.04.11)
against whom it is politically correct to discriminate and publicly villify is smokers. What a prissy and self-righteous bunch of Bible thumpers you lot are! You sound like backwoods preachers itching to tar and feather sinners. Enough to make this non-smoker want to buy a pack of stinky French cigarettes and blow smoke in your faces.
50. Yes, smokers have the right to smoke!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.04.11)
They have the right to damage their lungs, their hearts and even smoke themselves in to emphysema, vascular disease, stroke and lung cancer! They DO NOT have the right to hurt others and damage the health of non-smokers and their children! Smokers have a part to play too. They are completely intolerant and become viciously belligerent when they are asked not to smoke in the bus shelter or entrance to stores and shopping malls! They even smoke under the the "No Smoking" signs! You want to smoke, do it at home. You want to stop but can't? Go to the ICU of any hospital and spend five minutes watching some dying of lung cancer fight for life!
51. 42 Michael Unpleasant in public...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.04.11)
goes both ways.. Orthodoxe people in Jerusalem find women dressed not modestly, also unpleasant. Are they ready to stay at home ?
52. 48 What is left? Haredi and gays?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.04.11)
53. Smoking
Tania ,   Colombia   (06.05.11)
We hate smoking but we smoke
54. I HAVE A FAIR SOLUTION
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.05.11)
Smokers should be allowed to smoke as much as they wish, with just one proviso They must smoke their dirty weed while their head is encased in a plastic bag, so the can enjoy the full aroma, flavor and carcinogens all to themselves Their right to smoke ends at the tip of my nose Once upon a time, I too smoked, my wife moved my clothing out of our closet, placed it into another closet, because my clothes were stinking hers up I got the hint, and stopped smoking
55. smoke smoke smoke that cigarette
Julie ,   Israel   (06.05.11)
The disappearance of millions of cigarette butts littering the grounds wherever one goes in Israel, would be very welcome. Israelis continue to throw burning cigarette butts wherever they please something totally frowned on in other countries, like Canada, for example. I am amazed that we don;t have more forest fires here. Maybe many of the fires here ARE caused by smoldering bigarette butts.
56. A big difference Ora
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.05.11)
Second hand smoking is UNHEALTHY . Seeing a non modest dressed woman in Jerusalem , can only disturb your dark ages beliefs . Regarding clothes , i could say the same thing about those dark age people dressed in their dark age clothes !
57. Leave us alone!!!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.05.11)
YAY!! Tell it like it is. I vote for Yigal Sarna!
58. #15 - zionist forever
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.05.11)
Right on zionist forever. Let us choose for ourselves and let the **free** market decide.
59. Smoking at Aida
Steve ,   Raaanana   (06.05.11)
Last night I saw the fantastic production of Aida at Masada. Among the elite music lovers (some tickets cost NIS 1400) a small number made life miserable for the rest of us. These were smokers (including cigar smokers) who when politely asked to stop said "NO!". Small in number, but obnoxious and offensive. THat is why we need a law banning smoking at outdoor places. During this year three friends, all non smokers, have died from lung cancer. There is one place to smoke--in your own home, where if husband and wife want to kill themselves and their kids they can.
60. 56 Charles, Smoke is unhealthy...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.05.11)
No doubt about that. My post was an answer to Michael,to whom the view of Haredi is disgusting. That hurts. .
