Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (06.03.11)
Mossad chief...
2. DAGAN FROM HERO TO ZERO
Fred   (06.03.11)
3. Dagan
Clive ,   London   (06.03.11)
Unfortunately, when you get to close to a problem you lose sight of what it actually is. Dagan is sadly a classic case. The Arabs intention is to destroy Israel. It really is that simple. Nothing will ever change their objective. The rest as Hillel said. "Is commentry".
4. to all the talking former security heads....
Asi Leafar ,   Israel   (06.03.11)
Boys you are beginning to sound like gadflies! Do tell me that you don't know how to write a letter or pick up the phone to the relevant person and I'll be happy to come over and give you a hand with that! Truly I am getting tired of your overspeaking out to set the record straight! Me thinks you are all quite a bit out of line...and suffering from a serious form of verbal whipple! remember you are all "Shushumim b'miluim!" behave accordingly!
5. Absolutely amazing.
Pinhas Bayit ,   Bet HaKerem   (06.03.11)
Here is a guy who rose in the shadow of Arik Sharon, who he served and learned from, and who makes an implied criticism of the Prime Minister and is suddenly branded a Lefty. You'd think we'd show a bit more respect for someone who has been involved in the defence and security of this country for so long. But no. We don't want criticism, We don't want dissent. We don't want debate. Just leave us alone and leave it to the incomptetent word smith of a Prime Minister who has no vision, no plan, no ideology to offer us, other than NO! and another day in the seat of power. Or leave it to the so-called Foreign Minister, who likewise has no foreign policy and is so disliked by the international community, that our 88 year old President has to do the job for him. If Dagan is a Lefty then God Bless all like him.
6. God bless meir dagan, a peaceful man and i hope he can make
leonidas mujahid ,   scotland uk   (06.03.11)
dagan has given me hope, unlike other zionist politicians and fascists, dagan is a diamond among fascist israelis, God bless dagan and make him the prime minister of israel ameen,he can make peace with us muslims and i hope he reaches out to the muslim masses and not our dictator leaders and i hope he makes peace with palestinians and iran as well God willing. dagan u rock mate
7. LISTEN TO HIM !
Marcel ,   Florida   (06.03.11)
Interesting how in Israel the majority listen to everyone but HaShem. He warned Israel not to make any agreements with the amalekite style neighbors and still the elite rulers of the people press ahead instead of admitting they were wrong all along. He said the 'peace partners' would become a thorn in Israel's side and they have and more. Exodus 23
8. My fearless prediction : Dagan will fail as a politician.
The Swami   (06.03.11)
9. Chances for lasting peace only between democracie
Joe ,   Canada   (06.03.11)
As long as the Muslim world is ruled by unstable undemocratic regimes riven with internal conflicts there is no chance for any scheme to achieve a lasting peace that yield security for Israel especially if significant teritorial concessions are made. The current Arab Spring is not likely to bring a progress in the short term in part due to the world wide economic crisis whose duration could prevent the advent of democracies for a decade or two.
10. To All Commentators
Harold ,   USA   (06.03.11)
All have to listen to Dagan because he knows very well the situation in the Middle East for the past 10 years as Chief of Mossad.
11. #5
mba ,   Israel   (06.03.11)
Roll on man, couldn't have put it better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12. The API means the END of Jewish identity
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (06.03.11)
So Dagan BELIEVES it is good for Istael to accept the API. From the horse's mouth regarding the FATE of Israel AFTER signing that PEACE deal with the Arabs : "We (the Arabs) will start THINKING of Israelis as ARAB JEWS rather than simply as Israelis" AFTER Israel has been ABSORBED into the "ARAB geographical entity" (Prince al-Faisal to reuters)
13. Bible Prophecy
Larry ,   Soddy Daisy   (06.03.11)
The reunification of Jerusalem has brought about great results for the Jewish people but at the same time, it has also made Jerusalem the center of controversy among Moslems and even the leaders of this world. As world leaders travel the road to peace in the Middle East, Jerusalem is always a major topic on their quest for peace. The continuing question of who should control Jerusalem politically is at the top of any agenda in the peace process. Ancient Jewish prophets spoke often about Jerusalem and her status in the last days especially as it relates to peace. Daniel wrote a scenario where a world leader will come to Jerusalem and establish peace between Israel and her neighbors (Daniel 9:27). The Psalmist exhorted Jews to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6) and many others, especially Christians, are also praying for the peace of Jerusalem. The Daniel passage confirms that there will be peace in Jerusalem howbeit a short lived peace that will result in a false peace. Jerusalem will indeed be key in any discussion of peace in the Middle East but there will not be true peace in Jerusalem for at least 7 years, that's the 7 years of the Tribulation period as described in Revelation 4-19. True peace comes to Israel when the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, returns to Jerusalem. Bible prophecy will be fulfilled.
14. Well said, #5
Guy ,   Halifax UK   (06.03.11)
Perhaps there's hope after all that Israel will start listening to different points of view and act upon them instead of the same old excuses and abuse handed out to anyone og a contrary view to maintaining things as they are. The rest of the world has run out of patience.
15. Clive: It It REALLY is NOT that simple
Objective Observer ,   England   (06.03.11)
Clive's blinkered thinking is a prime example of the ignorance that fills these forums on haaretz, jpost etc.... Presumably the ex head of MOSSAD is an idiot who doesn't understand the simple truth eh clive? Education is now free and peace will follow - the web allows anyone to research any issue - Assess the facts calmly, it really isn't hard.
16. Talk Borders? Yes, But........
RayS ,   USA   (06.03.11)
If the Arabs want to talk about the 1967 "borders" , OK, but Israel should talk about the historic Jordan River historical ,documented, Judea and Samaria borders of Israel. . A little pro-active public relation position , justified by history (ancient and recent) would be more effective in moving the Arabs and the world to more realistic aims.
17. Taking the initiative.........
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (06.03.11)
towards a BIG Israel will eventually be the only option left, forced upon Israel, for survival. So why more casualties and misery for both "sides", war after war after war (always stopped by the West to prevent Israel's VICTORY)? Creating clarity as soon as possible, is the most ethical way. A BIG Israel will bring balance to the ME and help Islam to develop as a moderate and free culture, in stead of stifling Islamism/Jihadism. Even in a BIG Israel there will be cultural space for relatively large numbers of Arabs who essentially accept the Jewish People and its historical Homecoming, as opposed to the absurd two-state "solution", where "Palestinians" wouldn't even accept 1 jew amongst their midst, which is the heart of the problem, the essential non-acceptance by Arabs/Muslims of the Jewish People and our historical Homecoming to our Land of Israel. For our own sake and for their sake the ethical way is towards a BIG Israel. Shalom will bring true salam to our Arab/Muslim neighbours. Shalom is the only way through which also Ishmail can receive his blessing. With (THAT SHOULD BE THE SAUDI PLAN!) or without the Arabs/Muslims help, a BIG ISRAEL is the only option left to create equilibrium and freedom in the ME. It will not make the Arabs/Muslims less, the other way around! It will finally end their isolation, outcasts no more. Equal neighbours (with lots of land and countries) of a BIG Jewish Israel. The ME will come to bloom. We will learn each others languages, Hebrew, Arabic, Farsi, Urdu (change the abjad spelling systems into proper alphabets by adding a few vowel letters to enable full pronunciation clarity, making quick learning possible, which will translate into socio-economic higher output as well), Turkish, etc. do business together, develop together, solve problems together, make music and entertainment together , etc. Friendship is not a pipe dream, it only requires MUTUAL acceptance. It is high time to accept the Jewish People, Am Yisrael, and our Historical Homecoming. A BIG Israel will come to pass, either forced upon Israel militarily, or via an awakening consciousness and a revolutionary ARAB/MUSLIM INITIATIVE. Shalom, salam, peace.
18. What is "left" vs "right"
Li ,   USA   (06.04.11)
"Right" only means a resistance to change and "left" only means a more willing view of change. A person should ask "Is Israel in a position where its policies must change"? A person can see imminent events that they would like. They can say "I will win the lottery" etc Or they can view events that really are likely and imminent. If a person chooses to view reality (good or bad) they must notice that Israel has many major obstacles soon. Under current policies the state of Israel is drawing to a close. A right wing cannot take Israel more than a year or two from the present. Time is short.
19. re muslim arabs
joel ,   usa   (06.04.11)
SINCE WHEN IN HISTORY THAT MUSLIM ARABS WANT DEMOCRACY, THOSE WHO TRUST THEM WILL FIND THEMSELVES LATER BEING "SHOT" AT THE BACK, JSY READ THE SURA IN THEIR KORAN?
20. people who run the Mossad are not Pollyanna or Cassandra...
Rafi ,   US   (06.04.11)
... and you had better take them seriously. They are tough pragmatists and they KNOW the real story of what is needed for Israel to survive. I would take them a thousand times more seriously than all the bravado right-wing idiots who populate this Talkback feature.
21. As the longest serving Mossad chief -
Talula ,   Israel   (06.05.11)
I think we should sit up and pay attention to what he's saying - he isn't speaking for the sake of speaking - he doesn't have to.
