1. DST
former N. American ,   now Israel   (06.06.11)
It never bothered us in N. America, why should it here? My father was a very very religious man, and always managed to pray every day before going to work. Why can't people do it here?
2. Who was polled? 100 Haredim, 50 Orthodox Jews and 5 Seculars
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.06.11)
Yishai is doing everything to shift public attention from the fact that he, by neglect, greed and a craving for power, was responsible for the deaths of 42 people in the Carmel Fire disaster! Netanyahu failed the families of the victims and people of Israel by not firing Yishai and Steinitz for their failures. Benjamin Netanyahu is a great orator but a man who has no leadership qualities and who is the Prime Minister not of Israel but of those who can guarantee his government's survival no matter what the cost to the other citizens of Israel! He will go down in history as the Israeli Prime Minister who had the guts and the stupidity to tell the president of the USA to go to hell and who has fed the fires of hatred of Israeli, alenated the friends of Israel and contributed to the rise of Antisemitism!
3. Would it not cheaper just to start working earlier?
mr smart   (06.06.11)
Sometimes it seems that people forget that the DST is NOT adding an extra hour of daylight to the day. So getting up earlier and starting working one hour earlier would have the same effect.
4. pray before the beginning of the workday?
Talula ,   Israel   (06.06.11)
But they don't work, do they - or the majority don't. They just want longer in bed. Makes me sick that this is a secular country and the religious just keep on getting their own way,
5. Give notice at least 60 days in advance
Dan ,   R"G   (06.06.11)
I really don't care when the change happens as long as I can load it into computer systems at least 60 days in advance. Any less time requires that I, and other system admins, come to work that night. The appointments in calendars are all off when the time is changed with little notice. The later the decission, the more problems that need to be corrected.
6. The whole basses of changing the clock is wrong.
Aryeh Zelasko ,   Beit Shemesh   (06.06.11)
The whole basses of changing the clock is wrong. It is argued that this brings about a major benefit to the economy. However, the damage it does is never mentioned. Recently the Russian Federation eliminated summer time after an in dept study showed that the damage done due to the changing of the clock is far greater than its benefits. Two hundred and fifty years ago this might have been a clever idea but today it is a nuisance.
7. Greatest decisions by religious in 63 years
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.06.11)
What have religious MK contributed in 63 years since Israel came to existence? They must decide on something, sometime, don't they? Oh yes, how to get money through schnoring more out of Americans, how to work less and never serve the country, how to keep women in the kitchen, and when to set the clock twice a year.
8. 7 Michael!! One of the best ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.06.11)
leaders Israel had,Begin ,was religious. The money Israel receives from Us is for weapons. The Haredi receive money from private religious sponsors. Your posts make me think of a clock that doesn t work.Even such clocks are right twice a day. Stop already bashing religion!
9. Be thankful for small mercies
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (06.06.11)
Actually it's not so bad as this modification does at least remove all dependency of clock changing activity on Yom Kippur and the absurd argument that the fast would be "shorter" etc etc. Notice now that DST will start BEFORE the end of March - as in Europe and not before April 2nd as has been up to now, and it will finish AFTER October 1st - even up to the end of the first week in October. However they could have made a small provision such that if Succot falls later than the first week in October then DST could be extended until the end of the festival so that people have more daylight hours to travel around during Hol haMoed. But I guess they didn't think of that because that would get the Hebrew calendar involved in the issue again and that was what they were trying to rectify.

david ,   usa   (06.06.11)
If the daylight savings time is extended that means that they have to wake up earlier to pray. FYI most religious people in Israel work

zionist forever   (06.06.11)
A few haredi sects who do not work does not represent the majority of the orthodox in the country. The vast majority of orthodox Jews have ordinary jobs and lead very ordinary lives apart from the fact they are religious. I know a man he keeps every rule in the book but he is a security guard at who works long hours for low pay. Working for a living is not limited to seculars. In what way do the religious keep getting their own way? Sure in some areas the religious get their own way but in other areas its seculars who rule the roost. Israel was not created to be a European style country where religion takes place behind closed doors and the state is neutral and 100% secular. In Israel there will always be a place for religion when governments make legislation. It will always have to balance the demands of the secular and demands of the religious because both groups are equally represented ( orthodox does not just mean haredi ) so neither side is ever going to have it all their way and somebody will always be unhappy about something. Why don't you stop your obsessive hatred of the religious?
12. #11 what does religion have to do with it?
Rahel   (07.05.11)
what does religion have to do with it? Can't religious people get up earlier to pray? Does economy, common sense etc- not matter? I guess not. They profit from it however- somebody has to run the country- can't eat prayers. Reminds me of the argument dairy farmers put up in Europe and NA when it was introduced it: the cows don't know what time it is, so they don't give milk an hour earlier- !!?????
