1. Adopt direct voting for individual candidates.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.06.11)
Olmert never belonged anywhere near the P.M.'s office. The fact that such an insignificant functionary of highly dubious honesty and morals became Israel's P.M., testifies to a broken political system. It's time to abandon, once and for all, the faulty system of party lists and adopt direct voting for individual candidates. Israel, as Bibi noted in his recent speech to the U.S. Congress, "doesn't have a lot of room for error". Israel can't afford to be governed by the likes of Olmert and Livni.
2. "Did I wish to defraud ALEH? AKIM?"
Moshe ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.06.11)
Absolutely! And anybody or any other organization whose money you could get your greedy, grubby hands on. NOTHING was/is beyond you. And....HOLYLAND awaits you.
3. "The first time I heard about it:
(06.06.11)
Sure this is the first time you heard about it since toy were the one the did the theft. Now you were found out and had a chance to hear about it. Mr. Olmart bend down your head in shame and shut up for once.
4. doublebilling
mohson   (06.06.11)
I know something about doublebilling cause I was offered 2 payments for travel to one place dealing with 2 organisations on several occasions. i was tempted but declined cause I knew it would come out and my reputation damaged. Olmert knew exactly what he was doing and his protests that zaken handled all of his business and he was too busy to use a calculator cause after all, he was the Pm and he is so important all ring hollow. Olmert is a born liar. His only chance of avoiding jail is if he connects with the judge in some way. His evidence from afar is indicative of a lying crook. And israel elected him PM. No, israel is not god's chosne people, no way no how. For what olmert did in the hezbollah war, mishandling and fidgeting, for trusting erdogan, for not knowing a thing about security borders, for his alone he should serve 10 years in prison. No, he is going to jail and his fans barnea an dhaber who whitewashed him can visit him there.
5. Even if he didn't know about it, he is responsible.
noa ,   israel   (06.06.11)
That's why bosses must check their assistants all the time. I do believe he didn't know about it, and his wonderful assistants thought they were being clever. But in the end, he is responsible.
6. Somebody submitted the claims
Wade ,   NYC USA   (06.06.11)
Someone submitted the paperwork with claims for travel reimbursements. That individual must testify whether it was his/her own initiative or at Olmert's instructions. If they disagree, the judges will have to decide who is lying. Olmert did not have to be doing the paperwork by himself. If the underling takes full responsibility, Olmert is off the hook. If the judges believe that Olmert gave the orders, then he knowingly defrauded those institutions.
7. Poor baby
Janet Cooper ,   Atlanta, Georgia   (06.06.11)
Does anyone else hear a violin playing while reading olmert's comments, or is it just me?
8. He says he's innocent; don't you believe him?
Gail Smith ,   Kansas City   (06.06.11)
shrugs off or sleezes off?
9. You're not alone, Janet
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (06.06.11)
Old Ehud was definitely on the fiddle. If only he's convicted and rendered ineligible to be recycled politically. He was and is a disaster.
