1. Not ready!? Bull.
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (06.06.11)
The Palestinians gave an unequivocal YES. It's Israel who--quelle surprise!--rejected it. Face it: The days of being able to say we have no peace partner are long gone. WE are the obstacle. Fie!
2. #1 - Nonsense!
Charles ,   Paris, FRANCE   (06.06.11)
Michael, get real. The Hamas-Fatah partnership is a face, and even Hamas alone can't present a unified face except to call for Israel's destruction. When Israel had a 10 month construction hiatus, Abbas sat on his hands for 9 months and moved only when pressured by the US, and then only paid lip service. Bibi should not negotiate with a non-entity.
3. Israel was forced in Palestine, time to force Palestine also
Ann ,   UK   (06.06.11)
4. Why do parties need either US or France?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (06.06.11)
Jerusalem and Ramallah are but a cab ride away. If the Palestinians were serious (contrary to Steiner's claim, the PA have only said "yes" to getting everything they demand up front), they wouldn't need any intermediaries.
5. Partition Imminent
Lynx ,   Palestine   (06.06.11)
6. actually, we should go with the french
oferdesade ,   israel   (06.06.11)
... if only to stick it to the americans. none of us have anything to lose. the americans have too many things on their plates to be truly involved. and the french (who i wouldnt trust as far as i couold throw them) arent selling us guns. maybe their agenda will be a bit more transparent. the fact that bibi didnt give an unequivocal no means there may be something to discuss, and hamas needs a new home now that syria's gone bad on them.
7. Let the French take that and go sit in the corner.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.06.11)
8. french peace talks
steve ,   usa   (06.06.11)
Hey, A1 Matrimonials, read Abbas' typical 2 sides out of his mouth comment again. He didn't say yes he said he was open to it. But the French precondition for meeting was that abbashad to recognize Israel as a Jewish State. Abbas's new "peace partners", Hamas, would kill him before they would let him agree to that. IT was always a non-starter. As for your believing Abbas, 3 weeks ago he said he'd only talk if Israel agreed to '67 borders without land swaps. Abbas went to college at a Soviet propaganda school and specialized in Holocaust denial. He is some peace partner!!!
9. Returm to Mecca Imminent
Al Arabi ,   Fakestinia   (06.06.11)
10. time not right???
kapriza ,   tsafon   (06.06.11)
As far as the US is concerned, no time is right if they can't claim to be the saviors. Regardless of whether the Israelis and the Pals would actually sit down together with France, the US can't allow that to happen no matter what. That wouldn't look good for them in the history books.
11. ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME.....
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (06.06.11)
...that the US administration and the French government stopped acting like imperialists? It's about time they realize that Jews don't take orders any more, and to be fair, neither do Arabs. Maybe, just maybe,if the PA and the evil Arab supremacist League are made to realize that no outside power is going to impose a solution,it'll just take a simple phone call to get peace negotiations without preconditions under-way. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
12. #1 = an agent of the Arabs or an Arab !!!
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (06.07.11)
ENOUGH = ENOUGH
13. The eternal Israeli shield
Jon ,   Baltimore US   (06.07.11)
The US has always protected Israel. First from it's enemies by arming it to the point it is the only nuclear power inthe Middle East. Second from its critics by the use of UN vetoes and bullying of friend and foe alike to protect it from criticism of it's policies. We protect a state that is based on the preservation of the rights of only one group of people, those identified as Jewish. All others are subordinated and allowed to live as citizens only as long as they are willing to accept life as second class citizens. Through it all the US is forced to support right wing extremist governments like the current one. Sad but true.
14. #3, #5
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.07.11)
Israel was forced to declare itself a state, reestablishing itself on home ground, due to the arabs' rejection of Jews, Israel, and UNRes 181. The Mandate has already been partitioned twice: once by the formation of Jordan, the second time by splitting off the "WB". "Palestine" never existed as an arab entity, nor are the "Palestinians" willing to accept Israel. "Palestinian" "negotiations" consist of demands, not negotiations. The track they [you] are on is a dead end.
15. The Palestinians will not get something for nothing
Stephen in New York   (06.07.11)
16. #3 Ann - THANKS for the LAUGHS!
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (06.07.11)
FACT-free, HISTORY-deprived drivel - what a DELIGHTFUL combination.
17. Really?
Herzelian ,   Herzeliya   (06.07.11)
This is coming from the same woman that only a month ago called Assad "Moderate"? Just go away Mrs. Clinton
18. She's my dada...

19. to 3 ANN
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (06.07.11)
What do you mean by that comment?
20. She's wrong about this one. On both sides.
Zvi   (06.07.11)
Israel is "ready" to talk, and has been ready to talk for a long time. The Palestinians have refused. HOWEVER, AT THE MOMENT, the Palestinians probably CAN'T be expected to talk. There is simply too much instability all around them. The Arab patrons of peace talks are either in jail (Mubarak) or hunkering down (Abdullah). The Turks are busy attacking Israel as part of their elections. The Arab enemies of peace talks are in chaos. The PA has integrated a violently anti-peace terror group into the leadership, and the extremist Muslim Brotherhood is likely to come to power in Egypt, so that Fatah has to cater to Islamist whims. The Palestinian leadership is worried about their own supporters. And the Arab League will not provide backing if the Palestinians make concessions; extremists will sandbag them and the PA leaders will be in danger themselves. Finally, the Obama administration has shown no sign of providing support for peacemakers and has done everything possible to strengthen the enemies of peacemaking and to give the PA excuses to sandbag talks. (STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE, HILLARY). If you're going to be even-handed, then you could as easily have mentioned that some climates make successful talks likely, while some climates make it very, very likely that high-level talks will fail. Any intelligent person would avoid "peace conferences" until there is a climate that promotes success.
21. Only Biased Americans Can "Host" Talks
James   (06.07.11)
The Americans have been leading the peace process for 20 years. And in 20 years, the peace "process" has been an epic failure. In the meantime, Israel has been allowed to drastically change the facts on the ground through settlements and ethnic cleansing of E. Jerusalem. Part of the problem is America is a completely pro-Israel biased as witnessed last week by the groveling of US politicians before Netanyahu/AIPAC. That is why nothing is ever resolved. Time to kick the Americans aside and bring in an unbiased party to mediate. Then maybe something will get done.
22. More theater, fake Pals are gasping for air
J1 ,   Earth   (06.07.11)
23. There is no point in such talks ever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.07.11)
Like the old saying goes; even a broken clock is correct twice a day. Clinton is correct that there is no point in "peace talks" between Israel and the P.A. now. To be truthful, there is not point in such talks ever. Israel has nothing to gain and everything to lose in phony "peace talks" with the P.A. Israel is far better off to continue her present path of slowly reclaiming Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. If "Palestinians" choose to humiliate themselves with another bogus statehood proclamation; so be it. Ultimately Israel will have a P.M. with the guts to annex Judea and Samaria.
24. LIAR! Bibi stood before congress and said he was
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (06.07.11)
ready to talk and now she calls him a liar. no wonder she is a partner of a muslum president.
25. #1 Michael Steiner
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.07.11)
The "Yes" wasn't "uneqivocal" it had pre-conditons that Abbas wanted, the main one was that Israel agree to the pre'67 lines before the sit down Read first and then comment
26. #5 Lynx
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.07.11)
That was already tried, it didn't work Where have you been for the past 63 years, asleep ?
27. US: time not right

28. to all
birdi ,   israel   (06.07.11)
best to ignore # 1 at all times.
29. #2
Mike ,   World   (06.07.11)
The IDF go on killing unarmed people and you talk about Hamas and Fatah ? Charles of France. Where does your loyalty lay with ?. Israel or France ? Non-entity ? I know history very well, yet you seem to think the people that dwell in the very region of occupation are actually indigenous. They are Turko-Mongolic from a region once called Khazaria. They have neanderthal DNA in the mix too. The Palestinians should raise their game and point to the Jewish Autonomous Oblast. Sound okay ? Or just label me an 'Anti-semite' which is so worn out and paper thin its deemed useless.
30. Of course...
LebanonPride ,   Canada   (06.07.11)
There is ALWAYS an excuse to stall peace talks... Why does the US need to be involved? They haven't helped anything progress, and change their minds every 5 minutes..... This is by far one of the weakest excuses though.
