1. We also need a law to deal with the Left
Nour ,   One-State   (06.07.11)
Oh those wicked Leftists who strive for peace! We need a law that forces them to walk with a Leftist tag on their forehead. Anybody sees a parallel with Mao's China? I do.
2. to think such a-holes held my fate in their hands..SCARY!!
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.07.11)
3. Dagan
david cohen ,   china   (06.07.11)
this man proved to be a big disappointment. how could he have been running such an institution without anyone detecting his megalomaniac side? the government and his replacement should in the shortest delays review all major decisions taken by him in the. it seems that the only interest at heart that he ever had is his and not the country! despicable
4. Why are Israelis afraid of Truth?
Nour ,   One-State   (06.07.11)
The man uttered the Truth. Perhaps that is a crime in "Israel".
5. #1 NOUR
david cohen ,   china   (06.07.11)
any a-- hole that talks about 1 state is anti-israeli. your "light" is really darkness. you want 1 state? go back to be under the jordanian regime .
6. #3: Megalomaniac? Dagan or Barak?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.07.11)
Barak is Israel's Napoleon! Sorry about the previous TB - Computer has a mind of its own!
7. Miri Regev to head Secret Police -Hello KGB Israeli style
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.07.11)
When Prime Minister Netanyahu was heckled during his speech to AIPAC he was very quick to point out to the heckler that in a democracies like the USA and Israel Freedom of Speech and the right to protest is sacrosanct! Now we have MK Miri Regev contradicting her OWN Prime Minister and proposing a law which would give all those who call Israel an "Apartheid" state enough fuel to make an atom bomb! This is exactly what the Apartheid South African Government did! I know - I was there for forty years! Silence criticism and curb the right of free speech! From what we have heard from a number of commentators on Israel TV and Radio, Meir Dagan has not in any way "damaged" Israel's security. A law silencing people from criticizing Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers would soon extend to members of the opposition, left wingers AND right wingers and is a blatant infringement of the freedoms Israel is so proud of. If an "illegal" settlement was to be demolished and right wingers were to criticize the government, well they could land up in Miri Regevs Lubyanka Prison for dissidents! MK Regev should be ashamed of herself and PM Netanyahu should once an for all get his folk into line! MK Regev would do a lot better if she was to act against those who really damage the security of Israel like MK Zoabi and Islamic Fundamentalists like Sheik Raad Salah and his disciples of hatred against Jews and Israel and some "Israelis" who do their best to damage our country and attack our soldiers who are defending our rights and democracy!
8. Don't be silly, Nour, and show some
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (06.07.11)
intelligence. Every country, including Canada, has laws restricting recent retirees from security and defense positions from revealing evidence and military/defence strategies. Your intent to demonize Israel at every turn blinds you and makes you appear ignorant. These cognitive limitations are, in fact, typical of Palestinian advocates making intelligent discussion impossible and creating obstacles to any peace momentum.
9. pathetic rightists
John de Frece ,   Ramat Gan   (06.07.11)
Dagan can hardly be accused of being a member of Peace Now - simply forces the sleep walking p. eople of Israel to wake up and see the reality . We are ruled by an irresponsible gang of almost fascists determined to suppress dissent . When the 1,000 missiles a day are falling on us dont say we werent warned
10. Laws to stop democracy
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (06.07.11)
Yes we meed laws to stamp out one of the most cherished freedoms of democracy, free speech. And the more laws of this type we promulgate, the hollower our claim to being a democracy sounds. We are caught between fundamentalist messianists and far right demagogues. And we are becoming precisely what such individuals wish to avoid, just one more Mid-Eastern mess.

How do you intend to ensure that HAMAS and Hezbollah get rid of their rockets, so none of them falls on Israel ? For example, you may try to politely ask them to do that, and retreat from some territory to appease them more. Actually, that had already been tried by Ariel Sharon. Are you familiar with the results ?
12. #7 David
Aharon   (06.07.11)
There's a difference between freedom of speech and speech that harms the interest and security of the State. Freedom of speech doesn't mean one is allowed to yell 'Fire!' in a crowded theater. This law is not preventing Dagan from ever presenting his point of view, but is merely calling for a restriction in comments during a specified time after he left his post.
13. A government of paranoid delusionists
Jon ,   Baltimore US   (06.07.11)
and a country quickly following them down the same path. This is not about revealing any classified information as our laws state but systematic attempts by radical members of the ruling coalition to stifle any credible dissent. They are afraid of Dagan because many people respect his opinion so they try to shut him up. He cannot be accused of being a bleeding hearted liberal or self-hating Jew and there are no obvious things about him for them to attack and discredit him. That leaves them desperately scurrying to make it illegal for him to voice an opinion that they do not want heard. Insanity
14. what a shameful moment for Israel!
Rafi ,   US   (06.07.11)
when the likes of Likud hacks Regev want to muzzle patriots like Dagan and Ashkenasi! You insist on driving Israel off the cliff - and don't want to hear any voices trying to prevent it. If only it was you alone who had to pay for your idiocy... Tragically others will also suffer.
15. #8 Dialogue with an Eldad fan?
Nour ,   One-State   (06.07.11)
First your supreme hero was that racist thug Lieberman. Now you are a huge fan of Eldad and Katz, and have repeatedly expressed your extremist opinions about keeping the Golan Heights, Jerusalem, Jordan Valley, settlements, and even so-called Tranfer. And you want some cognitive attention? Sorry, my neurons are too precious to bother. I still suggest that you evacuate your daughter from the West Bank before she is either removed forcibly by your own army or is forced to obey Palestinian law.
16. it makes sense
MIke ,   Phila US   (06.08.11)
i believe the government is supposed to have secrets(especially a country with that many enemies as Israel). allowing retired officials to blab to the media can create security issues for the country. unless i completely misunderstood the article.
17. Thanks to Dagan...
Persian CAT   (06.08.11)
a lot of Israelis and Iranians will live longer. Ignore the b!tch.
