1. Netanyahu must not compromise.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.07.11)
Beware of secret deals, politicians cannot be trusted. I've read of a linkage between the release of Gilad Shalit & Netanyahu agreeing to re-start talks with the Hamas/Fatah gov't. & a softening of our position re: agreeing to 1967 border & the Palestinians would not ask the UN for recognition. This would be a major mistake.
2. To Terry # 1
Rachel ,   US   (06.07.11)
Hopefully Netanyahu is not that stupid. Gilad should be released regardless. And negotiating with Hamas? Are you serious?
3. This is a no-brainer
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.07.11)
Hello. Prime Minister Netanyahu was quite clear in his speech before the United States Congress. The terms and conditions set forth by Israel are as follows: 1. Abandonment of the proposed "unity agreement" with Hamas. Israel does not negotiate with terrorist groups sworn to her destruction. 2. Recognition of the right of the State of Israel to exist in her ancient homeland. 3. Recognition of the integral character of the State of Israel as a Jewish state. 4. No return to 1967 borders. 5. No dividing of the City of Jerusalem. It is forever part of Israel. 6. No "right of return" for displaced persons -- they left voluntarily; they cannot return. Those are the terms and conditions for the ersatz "Palestinians." These are not negotiable points. The ersatz "Palestinians" come, beggar's bowl in hand, and they have to settle for Israel's terms. That's what happens when you reject three offers of a two-state solution and are on the losing end of six wars. If they don't like the terms, they can all go pound sand.
4. To: Terry at No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.07.11)
I think your fears are misplaced. Prime Minister Netanyahu set the table in his speech to the United States Congress. I do not think that the ersatz "Palestinians" are interested in coming to dinner. Which was probably Netanyahu's intent all along. Besides, the ersatz "Palestinians" can declare statehood all day long -- they did it in 1988, as you are probably aware -- it doesn't give them territory and it won't help them get past the Security Council. The only thing their stupidity might win them is faster annexation of Judea and Samaria by Israel, which will hasten their departure to Jordan or, if they prefer, Gaza City. One or another way, their sixty-four year tango with Medinat Israel is coming to an end. They lost. We won.
5. Palestine will never exist. Lay it on the line, Bibi.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.07.11)
It's time to end the charade of pretending Israel accepts the monstrous Two State Final Solution and counting on our enemies to nix it with extremist demands. As long as Israel pretends to accept this abomination, we invite endless interference, in our affairs, by the likes of Obama and the E.U. Moreover, our countless millions of friends won't be able to help us in rejecting the Two State Final Solution till we do so first. Palestine will never exist on our land. Lay it on he line, Bibi. If you lack the guts to do so, stand aside for someone who does. Many do.
6. merkel-obama summit
arne ,   usa   (06.07.11)
there must be a transfer of populations with redirecting of land swaps. new borders israels security needs a must. if that cannot be obtained then there will be no changes in the present situation and life will go on the way it is.treat the palestinians with respect and hope at some point they will come to respect the jews and things will have a sembalance of normality
7. Netanyahu does and doesn't on a continual basis

Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (06.07.11)
of fact: Israel + Jordan = 2 states... come on morons, it is as simple as that...!
10. The "two-state solution" is a silly matra, any...
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (06.07.11)
realistic and fair analysis of comparative historical, geographical, religio-cultural, economic, etc. factors point out to only one way to achieve fair balance, freedom and in time peace in the ME. And it is not cheap, politically correct silly mantras such as the "two-state solution", the reverse lie of the "occupation" and the latest fad "the Arab Spring" (that kind of "democracy" that ends a chance for real democracy, which is more than elections, brought the Nazis into power). The only way is the essential acceptance by the Muslim world of the Jewish People and our Homecoming. Only that can give the Muslim culture a start to become free and moderate. The expansive geographic tenet of their "faith", makes it not a religion, but an imperialist, fascist ideology. So the world should help the Muslims, to give them a real chance, instead of fostering the culture clash via cheap mantras and using Israel and the jews as scapegoats. Psychologically and practically ONLY a BIG Jewish state of Israel can lead to that acceptance and create the necessary equilibrium. All other fake ways to "make" peace only guarantee the prolonging of this in the deepest core, RELIGIOUS/CULTURAL/TERRITORIAL (put it in a wider perspective!) conflict. The BBC and others now try to portray the infiltrations in the north e.g. as a part of the "Arab Spring". When it comes to the jews the hypocritical and sanctimonious West still turns everything upside down. The result is not good for the Muslims, but the politically correct Western elite don't really care. Deep down the average Israeli cares far more for his Muslim neighbour (but that is what they should become, mutually respected NEIGHBOURS, not occupiers of the Land of Israel). The paradox is that Ishmael's blessing can only come to pass via Israel's blessing, only shalom can lead to true salam for the Muslims. A few of their imams know this and can back it up according to their theology, but it is too dangerous for them to go against the antisemitic mainstream. The worst part is that the Brits (imperialist English rather) divided the Mandate territory in a devious manner, but that is psychology for you. So easy to cleanse your guilt feelings by comparing the IDF with the Nazis, another sick mantra. Oh world ....how far you are way from true justice. How thin and transparant is the superficial layer of your fake justice, how you suffer from a loss of memory in your week-long historical view. Yes, peace will come to this world, but only built on true justice, not via scape-goating the jews and Israel once more.

And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
12. #1's potential scenario frightening
Steve   (06.07.11)
Let us hope there is no substance to the rumor. As it stands now, PM Netanyahu has done little, if anything, to help Obama's 2012 re-election. Obama is obsessed with winning re-election so he can continue his destructive policies. Thinking Americans want Obama removed in 2012 in the worst way. Mr. Obama has been a disaster at every level, in virtually every policy decision. The economy is languishing. The Middle East is on fire. The most extreme Islamic forces in the ascendency, thanks to Mr. Obama. That is why Obama is trying to impress on Israel the situation is urgent. Because Egypt and other states will fall to Muslim Brotherhood, al Qaeda-linked jihadists, etc. The worst thing possible would be some form of capitulation or a secret deal by the Netanyahu government.
13. Worry about that E coli instead of,,,,,,,
Sherry ,   New Mexico   (06.07.11)
Obama should worry about the ecoli and the Merkel (can't touch that) instead of the U.N. and the Pals(can't touch that). compliments of the M.C. Hammer

15. UN STATEHOOD
SAS ,   israel   (06.07.11)
Dear Mr. President. You are dumb, ignorant. Look what you have done in Egypt. I certainly do not agree with all the steps that the govt. of israel is taking but we are a democracy. But you hate us and your only goal as it appears to me is to do away with us. WAKE UP!! the Arab countires - your muslim brothers only want to ruin you and the free world,. sometimes it is hard to face reality but better than sooner than later.

justice for all ,   world/planet earth   (06.08.11)
you think/imagine that you are the government of the zionist entity/state of "israel" yourself with your one-sided terms/orders to which the palestinian people have to obey. what if the palestinians fullfill all your wishes/terms, what is on the opposite for them/what will they get in return?. do they still have a right to live or not? of course the palestinians have the right to return. it does not matter if all the palestinians (about 10-11 million palestinians)(re)settle in the land between the river jordan and the mediterranean sea. if all the jews/zionist-jews/jewish zionists/zionist "israelis/"israeli" zionists have the right of return/to live there, then the palestinian people have that right too for they have always lived there (too). the argument that the palestinians left voluntarily the former mandate area of palestine in 1948 is absolutely a big lie/nonsense. tell/learn that to the cat. (in almost) all of the cases they were forced to leave/to flee. if the palestinians have to abandon the agreement with (criminal/terrorist) hamas,. they can demand on their term that netanyahu and co. has to end their agreements with the criminal settlers on the west-bank and that there has to come an end to the criminal blockade of the gaza-strip. and if the palestinians would recognize "israel" then "israel"/the zionists have to recognize a palestinian state (in the occupied terrirories) at the same time at the least. if one party /side makes( a) concession(s)/compromise(s) shows its good will then the other party (no matter who that is) also has to do this, otherwise there will never be peace. only the sun rises for nothing/for free. and of course obama and the us have no right to tell the palestinians what they must do. they are not their masters and the palestinians are not their slaves/servants. the us has proven over and over again that they are a bad, partial, biased, one-sided ,subjective mediator in this conflict. they can better let the un to do the job and mind their own us-business to make their own house in order and leave the rest of the world alone. every people has the right of self-determination in equality and every independant, sovereign country has to be respected, without interference/meddling in its internal, domestic, national affairs by a foreign (hostile) country/ies unless the entire world, worldpopulation/mankind is in big danger in its existence and survival what other wise would mean that all life on earth would end/cease to exist.. i hope that all parties have the courage to make concessions/compromises to achieve an honest and just peace in the middle east at last.

18. Recognition.....Really??
Tif ,   New York City   (06.08.11)
Why should there ever be recognition of a Palestinian State when they don't recognize an Israeli one?
19. Tp Sarah:Why Only 30,000 Marchers?
Noah Lev ,   HollywoodUSA   (06.08.11)
To Sarah and other smart Zionists: I watch Israeli news every day on PBS (4:30 PST). it is informative..and gives (me) a better perspective ( real people, vs Net and news media). Bibis spokesperson said no negotiation with PA, while it is unified with Hamaas, ynet, none, never! Bibis red lines (at Bar Ilan) were repeated at AIPAC and the oval office. He favors 2 states, albeit relunctantly. Some say, he is stalling hoping for a miracle. But the PA pre-conditions is their doing..not Bibis. The Arab Rage is NOT Israel's doing. Iran's entry into the Red Sea and Syrias nuke plant..ARE not Israels doing. Settlement freeze ( pre-condition) is another PA tactic. Bottom Line: Israel has several enemies..its naive leftists, Kapo types..US divisions ( JST), gullible, foolish pundits ( Kushner, Soros, Friedman, Judt, radical "Jewish" leftists ( UCI), Progessive Judaism, Reform Judaisms leadership, pro-Palis types in Israel, timid actions at the fence and borders, disputes between present/former Mossad chiefs, etc. With 1m US Jews, why only 30,000 marchers? Why did not 1m email our President? Why, why, why? Why do Jews support Islamists at UCI..fighting Michael Oren. Why? Why is JSt allowed into Israel and Koch Party prohibited, why?
20. to 3 Sarah B
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (06.08.11)
Really the terms outlined by Bibi make it impossible to be accepted by the PA- to create a new "Palestinian" state. Don't you think so?
21. re: Sarah B
Cali Cal ,   Los Angeles, USA   (06.08.11)
All you talk is kaka lady. In a few years you Jews will be dhimmis in Israel, relegated to your old trades such as silversmithing and usary. Syria and Lebanon were only testing the borders in the last couple of incidents. The day will come when hundreds of thousands mass on Palestines borders and simply cross over to claim their land and settle old scores. I hope you end up escaping, that way I can cheer you up on these posts.
22. To any palestinians or arabs....
Oren   (06.08.11)
A question.... If the you the palestinians received a state with the west bank and gaza, theoretically with 67 borders, with no israeli troops or checkpoints, and lets even say with E Jerusalem as your capital...Would you continue to fight and resist for more or would there actually be an end to the conflict and peace..........
24. What does Obama fear at the United Nations in NYC?
christianpalestinian ,   las vegas   (06.08.11)
Clearly, he is much more worried about the wealthy democratic party financiers, than anyone else. That is why he is actively taking sides in this conflict over land and human rights.
25. "wait-and-see attitude"
Reality Check ,   USA   (06.08.11)
Obama to Bush, Perez to Sharon, there will be no peace because the Arab culture will not change. Not in Iraq, Egypt, Libya or Gaza. Take beautiful Yamit (when I was there). Gaza city should have become Alcapulco tourist mecca. Instead it's black market, broken fences, murder/terror, drugs, gangs, and worse while the bosses send the boy for more coffee, Hamdalila. Only way to stay safe is to keep that society contained; beyond defensible borders while we wait and see if anything EVER changes.
26. To # 12 Steve
Rachel ,   US   (06.08.11)
I hope you're right, but unfortunately Bibi is not consistent. He melt easily under pressure and don't forget that snake Ehud Barak who always undermines the PMs he works for. Bibi should stay the course. That's why he has gone up in the polls not by surrendering.
27. palestinian statehood
das ,   israek   (06.08.11)
obama - you COOKED the soup. now eat it which ever way you want to and CHOKE on it. you really are in need of a lot of experience and GOOD INTELLIGENT advisors. Hillary is NOT Bill and she is getting you into a lot of mud.
28. More American Drivel about Palestinian Statehood
Alan Smith ,   UK   (06.08.11)
What alternative do the Palestinians have, they've tried the route of negotiation under the auspices of Obama, the supposedly honest broker. All they got was a continuation of Israeli occupation and settlement expansion, and now it's time for them to declare an independent Palestinian state. That's the step the Israelis took to obtain independent statehood, so there should be no objections from anyone if the Palestinians do the same.
