31. Ask Glen Beck to do a feature on UNWRA
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.15.11)
Make sure that he mentions UNRWA is the second biggest employer in Gaza after Hamas and that its members actively supports terrorism. Indeed, the Hamas jihadists collect easy money from UNWRA with plenty time to spare to devote to their perverted activities.
32. #25 solomon - UNRWA had missle EXPERT on its payroll
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (06.15.11)
And, until he sent packing to meet the 72 virgins, the Islamic Jihad rocket maker was a science teacher and deputy headmaster at the UNRWA-run Rafah Prep Boys School. 2 years ago, the same Chris Gunness defended the UNRWA system with sleigh of hand - it screened new staff. But, as reported by Fox News, the checks were based on a small watch list that exclude hamas, IJ and the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. Chris's oft-repeated mantra that UNWRA is neutral is thus pure hypocrisy
33. #28 smith ,
boris ,   NYC, US   (06.15.11)
do not forge facts, 2000-year old jewish refugees returned to their land of palestine(israel), 60+ year old palestinian(arab0)refuges returned back to their original(arab) countries.
34. #28. Rightist thinking is antidote to leftist tragedies.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.15.11)
#28. It wasn't rightist thinking that created Israel's last war in Lebanon, or Israel's last war in Gaza or the Oslo Disaster and on and on.. It is leftist thinking that is responsible for the Israeli retreats which created these and so many more tragedies. Patriotic rightist thinking is the antidote to leftist tragedies.
35. Which refugees in Kenya....
GR ,   London   (06.15.11)
...is he talking about, I couldn't find anything on google. Genuine question, anyone know?
36. begging the question
Mussa ,   TA/Jaffa   (06.15.11)
Why are Palestinian refugees treated differently than all other refugees -- by a separate UN agency? Whom does the perpetuation of this condition serve?
37. There is no evidence of any of those successes
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.15.11)
of which Gunness boasts. UNWRA has perpetuated refugees for the past 63 years and there is absolutely no indication of when that will ever end. That is unique and unprecedented. UNWRA shows no neutrality in its operations. It even lends its vehicles to Hamas to transport weapons because it has an allegiance to terrorism against Israel. Its employees are terrorists. The content of their textbooks inspire hatred and violence in the young. So that is not by any means a success story - strikingly evident by the number of young jihadists/terrorist who have no aspirations whatsoever, except to kill Jews. UNWRA does not encourage "in the next generation the belief in a peaceful and stable future". If it does, it should be disbanded for total failure in this area. The visiting staff just go to meet a requirement and the US could not be bothered to check the UNWRA reports. So UNWRA can write any sh*** and nobody in the US reads it. 63 years of total failure, with no peace and security as claimed by UNWRA should be enough reason to disband UNWRA or withdraw contributions to it. Nobody can force the present donors to donate. Indeed, the Pals have more weapons today than they have ever had before. As long as UNWRA exists as a well funded body run by leeches who collect huge salaries and who employ a massive workforce to do next to nothing, the refugee problem will remain. It is a very profitable business. Occupation - (a) refugee or (b) refugee administrator. Either one - easy money, YES, swindle is the correct term.
38. As Abba Eben would say -
R C ,   New York, USA   (06.15.11)
Don't piss on us and tell us it's raining. US out of the UN and UN out of the US.
39. Oh yes, and I fully blame UNWRA and the donor countries
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.15.11)
for the perpetuation of those "marginalized communities". They are the ones who established those "refugee camps" as PERMANENT communities, ensuring that they existed for 63 years by supplying basic necessities and cash. Under this dysfunctional arrangement, UNWRA became a major employer rivaling big conglomerates, paying salaries to terrorists for next to no work done. Pure corruption. Had it not been for UNWRA, the refugees would have been assimilated in their host countries a long, long, time ago - the very same Arab host countries that went to war with Israel and caused the Pals to flee. Disband UNWRA now. It is the biggest OBSTACLE in the way of settling the refugee problem.
40. UNWRA - A joke
Tim ,   Brighton   (06.15.11)
Because when it comes to Israel Palestine it skews the facts, distorts the truth and makes allegations and suggestive statements that cant be proven -so that it can knock Israel at every opportunity Look at this latest report on Gaza Employment. Its so full of contradictions, factual errors and choice omissions of the facts (much like the average Frisky Fisky Guardian Report) Either its part of a sinister Anti Israel agenda or the representatives at UNWRA are utterly incompetent. Either way its dishonest and despicable and pathetic and only serves to damage UNWRA - an United Nations International Organisation credibility and standing Everyone wants to see this painful conflict resolved and both Palestinians and Israelis living side by side in peace. And everywhere there are people on both sides of the divide who work and strive to make this happen. UNWRAS actions do not help whatsoever
41. You know, the BBC
Ehoop ,   UK   (06.15.11)
Gunness is a former BBC reporter. I sometimes wonder whether it is the BBC's distortions that influence the UN's perspective or whether it's the UN's inbuilt majority of human rights abusers and other dictatorships that tells the BBC on which side its bread is buttered.
42. don't blame UNRWA
Aralae ,   Glasgow Scotland   (06.15.11)
Why were the Jewish refugees from Arabia never protected by UNRWA or UNHCR. Why does C Gunness not see them as refugees in perpetuity? Mr Gunness, there is no room for double standards here.
43. #36 Mussa HERE COMES YOUR ANSWER
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (06.15.11)
Palestinian displaced persons and their descendants are treated differently to other refugees because they represent the only little bit of illusionary power that the evil Arab supremacist League can claim. A separate UN agency serves to give cover to the fact that the Palestinian Arab displaced persons and their descendants are held under apartheid conditions in Lebanon,Syria,Jordan, etc by order of the evil Arab supremacist League. It also provides a nice little earner and eventual pension for UN careerists like Gunness who have every reason to perpetuate the situation. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
44. corrupt, self-perpetuating bureaucracy
Stevie the K ,   Everywhere, USA   (06.15.11)
The UNRWA is nothing more than a corrupt, self-perpetuating bureaucracy that exists solely to provide itself with funding. It certainly contributes nothing positive to its stated mission - in virtually every impartial measure of performance, it fails. It should be disbanded, its subject 'refugees' absorbed in their current geographies, and any additional remaining funds (ha!-good luck) returned to the UN for repurposing to other anti-Israeli efforts. (heh heh)
45. If I wanted to read Mein Kampf
steve from raleigh   (06.15.11)
I'd order it myself from Amazon.
46. #28 - Jewish expulsion was more violent than Arab one
William ,   Israel   (06.15.11)
According to many records, the expulsion (or ethnic cleansing) of Jews by Romans from the region was violent, comprehensive, and resulted in many more deaths than that of the so-called "Palestinian" expulsion where most Arabs left without ever seeing a soldier. Add to that the culmination of resolutions, land ownership issues, and Intl law governing the use of land acquired through defensive wars, and you find a massive gap in your two examples. The real tragedy here is to truth, and you killed it.
47. #44 - isn't that true of most UN agencies?
William ,   Israel   (06.15.11)
The ones that really matter, like the UN agency focusing on saving children from dangerous global hotspots, gets little attention and partial funding. And they NEVER focus on the children being abused by both terror leaders and their own parents in Gaza and the West Bank. In the UN's eyes, giving a child an AK-47 in the Congo is deplorable, but giving them a suicide belt in Ramallah is perfectly ok.
48. UNRWA
Alex Shilo ,   Washington DC, USA   (06.16.11)
780,000 Jews were expelled from Arab countries between 1947 and 1956. Where are they today ? They did not "benefit" from any UN Work and Relief Agency. They were helped by their Jewish Brethren and TOTALLY integrated in host countries, including Israel. UNRWA is a unique agency in the UN, specially created to PERPETUATE the "refugees problem". Other refugeesin the world are under the UN HIgh Commissionner for Refugees, which specifies that refugees should be integrated in host countries within two years, not confined in refugees camps for generations.
49. Smith #28 your stupid is kind of funny
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.16.11)
Our claim to land is based in something called INTERNATIONAL LAW. Why don't you attempt to refute that? I bet you can't. Nor can the Arabs and their claims of being a permanent refugee status. Why are they the only 'refugee group' that have such special rules to even be considered a refugee in the first place? Why are the only refugee group in the entire history of the world that increases in number? The fact that the Arabs in nearly every case left without even meeting a single Jew seems to allude you. No on second thought you are just stupid and not funny.
50. mr gunness and the UNRWA
joel ,   usa   (06.16.11)
whether mr gunness is ignorant of what UNRWA ways, or he is just simply a total liar using world funds to cover up terrorism by the palestinians! it looks like this guy has a seared conscience!
51. Factless rationalizations
DavidT ,   Dallas   (06.16.11)
Notice how the spokesmihadi won't even address the most basic facts about UNRWA and it's bigotry and bias. Until shills such as Gunness can address the basic question as to why UNRWA exists, they'll continue to excuse their support for war. Simply put: Why is there only one organization separate from the UNHCR, an organization that has its own definition of "refugee" completely different from that used everywhere else in the world? When a refugee is defined as someone who's only been in the area "two years", UNRWA is dishonest. When UNRWA reported to the UN that it never even verified that people enrolling as refugee met that ridiculous requirement, it was being lazy and bigoted. When it continued to exist when the UNHCR was created and codified the definition used everywhere else, that was bias. When UNRWA continues to shelter terrorists and to teach falsehoods as history, that's support for war, a violation of the UN Charter. It's long past time that UNRWA be disbanded and the UNHCR take over.
52. Mr. Gunness, please!
Mae White ,   Tel Aviv   (06.16.11)
Nobody is saying to cut off your funds. We are just saying that the Pals are the ONLY group still situated in refugee camps after 60 plus years and it looks certain that they are being helped to remain in their miserable plight with the aid- unwitting or not- of the UN. Besides whcih UN workers were complicit with the fighters in Lebanon during Israel's two last Lebanon wars, helping them to hide in buildings from which rockets were launched. This has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt. The UN in general has a lousy record o f being a peace broker in this region .
53. UNRWA schools.
Kobe ,   Au   (04.23.15)
Their is absolutely no valid reason why UNRWA should teach its refugee children about the Holocaust, anymore than it should teach its pupils about any other irrelevant events in history.
