You are a good example of an educated Man who is looking for the future rather than stuck in the past.
6. Mazel tov
Naor ,   USA   (06.15.11)
I'm sure Israel will hold you to the same standards of police work as any other Jewish Israeli. Don't let them down.
7. Key phrase
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.15.11)
"My religion and origin are facts I do not ignore, but I have never, in all my years of service, felt discriminated against or hurt by it." What are the odds that the BBC or CNN will pick up the story?
8. I think this is good news.
michael redbourn ,   arad israel   (06.15.11)
Several young Bedouin have recently opened very good stores in Arad. The stores are clean, have good prices and the staff are polite. The young Bedouin use gel and speak excellent Hebrew. I think this is excellent. Some in Arad are anti but my argument is that integration is good. What is the alternative?
9. I'm soooo excited that I can blow up from joy
Maxime ,   USA   (06.15.11)
Whats next Israel? Sharia Law?
10. Non-discrimination
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.16.11)
You see, competent people make it on their own, under all the circumstances. I have lived in a Catholic country, lived in Israel, and now live in the USA. Occasionally I've been treated with "suspicion" when I identified myself as non-religious Jew" But it was never for more than a passing moment. There was never anything hateful or rejecting that I encountered. Therefore, while I know there are anti-Semites out there, I do not believe in anti-Semitism as an ongoing problem. Of course there are people who will dislike the Muslim officer's background, but they can outgrow it in a passing moment. They can correct themselves quickly. And he will continue believing in non-discrimination, just like I do it.
11. #4 - Free Syria! Free Lebanon! Free Egypt!
Scott ,   USA   (06.15.11)
Clean your own house.
12. Cheap jokes aside>
HaifaGuy   (06.16.11)
>This is all good, any way you look at it. Well done, Mr. Hakroush, well done Israeli Police. Although sometimes it makes me wonder why they hire these rude halfwits and dumbasses that most of the Israeli cops are.
13. What's with the comments?
Bernard ,   Bulgaria   (06.16.11)
What's with the comments!? As a zionist I would like to congratulate the man for his work and his promotion! Mr. Jamal Hakroush can serve as an example for a descent israeli citizen. Him being a muslim arab has nothing to do with that, which G*d he prays to is his own choice, his families roots have nothing to do the comments above mine. Congratiolations, Mr. Harkoush!
14. Especially worthwile and good choice!
G. Fränkl   (06.16.11)
Why? Easy. Because Kafr-Kfar Kana is not without reason perhaps is thought to be as a hostile (to Israel) village in the Galil. It's then all the more positive if his co-religionists from there show him support. Good for Jamal and much success in his new position!
15. ah, once again
ghs   (06.16.11)
trot out the "house muslim". "see world, we're not so bad, right?!" ha, what a joke.
16. Mazel Tov
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (06.16.11)
Road carnage also knows no political or religious divide. I'm sure you worked hard for your promotion and deserve the position. I wish you well and much success.
17. Kol Ha Kavod !!!
Yossef   (06.16.11)
It makes me proud to be Israeli. I hope he is right and it's just a beginning. Good people deserve good places, it's justice.
18. This must be part of the discrimination Israeli Arabs claim
William ,   Israel   (06.16.11)
19. #2 - it was freed in 1948...and again in 1967
William ,   Israel   (06.16.11)
May "Palestine" (Israel) continue to be freed of anti-semitic racists who deny Jews their human right to self-determination in their homeland. Ya allah!
20. Serious congratulations...
GR ,   London   (06.16.11)
...to the man, though being in charge of traffic in Israel - wow, I do not envy him ;-) Just kidding - well done!!
21. And why is this man and his promotion important?
William ,   Israel   (06.16.11)
Because many Israeli Arabs, largely silent or marginalized by their local govt representation, will serve the State of Israel and all its citizens, and do want to become educated, succeed, and contribute. This man not only broke the perceived barrier Arabs have placed themselves, but also broke through the noise generated by the likes of Tibi, Zoabi, Salah, and others. Good for him. Good for his family. Good for the State of Israel. As in every democracy, hardwork and determination will help you succeed and we welcome and honor his achievement.
22. Good news! Israel always hires the one best for the job!
Yaniv ,   Israel   (06.16.11)
23. All the respect, CONGRATULATION
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (06.16.11)
24. #15 ghs
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.16.11)
Methinks thou doth deny too much. Don't forget a supreme court judge and members of the Knesset. And all the Druze in the army. Kind of puts the kabosh on your insistence of Israeli "apartheid", doesn't it? Want to see apartheid? Look in the mirror.
25. I would like to strengthen
Sagi   (06.16.11)
the hopes and aspirations of all the Jewish officers who serve in the police forces of Arab countries. I hope they make it to the top as Hakroush has. I particularly mean those shining democracies and sanctuaries of human rights such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait etc. I wish them all Good luck with their pending promotion to high rank after years of dedication.
26. This is OUTRAGEOUS !
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (06.16.11)
How DARE Israel ever allows a Muslim to serve in the police force, much less PROMOTE him to such a HIGH rank. This is REVERSE apartheid! This move DISCRIMINATES against non-Muslims. The promotion does NOT jive with the notion of "Israel the APARTHEID state". I therefore URGE all those who fight AGAINST apartheid in Israel to call upon the govt to REVERSE this atrocity immediately. LOONY left are welcome too.
27. Israeli democracy is what democracy should be all about
Maxime Levy ,   USA   (06.16.11)
This is for all who wants true democracy in the Arab world. The Israeli democracy is whats its all about. There is nothing like the real think baby! Congratulation and mazal tov to Mr. Jamal Hakroush. keep up the work Sir and God bless you.
28. congratulations mr. hakroush
(06.16.11)
you are an israeli citizen all israeli arabs should be proud of. i wish you much success and good luck with your new position. hameed aboughaze, iranian
29. You Think the Aprarheid-Libelists Would Notice??
Dallas ,   Canada   (06.16.11)
I don't think so. Bring this story up to them and all you'll get is silence. The anti-Israel crowd are stuck in their beliefs, and facts such as these will not register in their "minds".
30. I gave credit to Israel
Abou Yosef ,   Alexandria, Egypt   (06.16.11)
This is a great news and I gve Israel lots of credit. Today Israel should be proud.
