2. Sorry that Ship of Fools is a title that's already taken

3. Wikipedia explains it best (my apologies for the editing):
Mavi Marmara ,   "Ship of Fools"   (06.16.11)
"The ship of fools is an allegory that ...depicts a vessel populated by human inhabitants who are deranged, frivolous, or oblivious, passengers aboard a ship without a pilot, and seemingly ignorant of their own [moral] direction...."
4. Misguided idiots who think they have a "right to intervene".
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.16.11)
Imagine that! Any loony group can perceive themselves having the "right to intervene" in the affairs of other countries. Let them exercise their right to intervene in Syria.
5. Shortage of medicines?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.16.11)
Okay. I'll send along a box or two of expired over the counter medications just as soon as I can get around to it; no need for the MAVI MARMARA to set sail. Oh, please! Is that the best they could come up with? Doesn't pass the laugh test; sorry. Evidently they have not noticed that the world really isn't paying much attention, either. There are 125 ways to arrange for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza that do not involve an attempt to breach a fully legal and internationally recognized blockade. I guess they have yet to figure out that Israel means what it says in stating that it will not tolerate such an attempted breach. Oh well. Even sharks need to eat, right?
6. "Tragedy which is Gaza"
NYC Girl   (06.16.11)
The only freaking tragedy is that when Gazans were given the opportunity to vote in a free election, they voted in a murderous bunch of hyper-religious thugs. And until the lunatic fringe bleeding hearts and terrorist sycophants recognize where the blame really lies, the true victims, such as many of those throughout Africa and the Arab world, will continue to be ignored...because they don't involve Israel.
7. Any ship breaking the blockade is a threat
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (06.16.11)
There is no need for the flotilla, even IHH and Turkey have realized that it is a waste of their time at this point to try to break the blockade. That said even 1 ship breaking the blockade under any reason risks the whole blockade. Israel can not take a chance of any weapons getting in or Hamas shipping Gilad Shalit out. If you want to send aid use the UN approved land routes in Egypt or Israel, and do be sure to stop into the 2 shopping malls in Gaza before you leave.
8. I am quite willing to take their word
BENJABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.16.11)

9. Israel should redirect Turkish Red Crescent aid to Syria
Marco ,   Spain   (06.16.11)
Kindly tell them to buzz off and point out that a real humanitarian crisis is happening at their border with Syria.
10. recognise Israel =+ lay down arms = end of blockade. Simple
jonathan ,   london/ israel   (06.16.11)
11. It’s all about establishing a precedent
Stephen in New York   (06.16.11)
The organizers miss –or evade- the point. Stopping this flotilla is all about Israel preventing the establishment of a precedent whereby Hamas would have unrestricted access to importing heavy arms by sea. Israel is not concern that this particular flotilla carries arms. The point is that Israel will not allow Hamas to import arms by sea. Period.

14. They still haven't read international law
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.16.11)
The San Remo Maritime Treaty states that we have the right to inspect any ship attempting to enter a blockade, anywhere we want and determine if, when, where and how any and all cargo is disposed of. All those organization can inspect to their hearts content, but it changes not one single international law.

Yes, but the organizers seem to be insisting that the purpose of the planned flotilla is to bring "humanitarian aid" to the Strip. Frankly, I think it is a little hard to do in light of the fact that the vessels scheduled to participate are pleasure craft and ferries, designed to carry people but no cargo. Frankly, I think that the organizers have been hugely embarrassed by the fact that the world is pretty much ignoring them; the Turkish government has put enormous pressure on IHH to cancel the flotilla and every country in the Mediterranean has refused to allow the use of their ports for vessels planning to participate. If they're smart, the IHH and the other organizers/supporters of the flotilla will blink first.
16. Of course...
John ,   Herzliya, Israel   (06.16.11)
Of course, this famous piss flotilla is no threat to Israel. Which still means that it has to be stopped in any possible way. Just document every move and publish it immediately, before Pallywood gets their "truth" on BBC and other "neutral, unbiased" channels.

...company owned by Munin al-Masri, a tycoon who is mooted as a possible prime minister in the unity government, puts the finishing touches to a glaringly opulent hotel, al-Mashtal, replete with two-tiered swimming pool and open-air jacuzzi... Btw, this hotel, el-Mashtal is in Gaza...

Alan Shapiro, co-founder of ISM and a leader of the flotilla propaganda, said recently that delivering aid was never the mission, but rather the goal was to keep the Palestinian "tragedy" in the public view. So it’s becoming ever more apparent to many people who these people are and what they’re really about. I believe that it’s necessary to confront propagandists for jihad for the benefit of those visiting this site who may be unfamiliar with history and context. Also, recently in response to your comment about the danger of Iran. I had trouble getting the following posted: - Iran is dangerous because Mutually Assured Destruction may not apply. The assumption that MAD would restrain Iran assumes that the Iranian mullahs think as we do, presumably with reason and objectivity. The mullahs await the return of the Hidden Mahdi. It may be that some in Iran’s leadership believe that apocalypse might move things along. In other words, MAD may not inform and contain events. Iran may not be motivated by the usual rational considerations of state, but by an apocalyptic end-of-world theology.

Bob ,   L.A., USA   (06.17.11)
Basically true, but in the interest of strict accuracy, you have to wait until the ship is in international waters first (can't inspect it before it leaves Turkish waters). Also, absent a published list of contraband, you can keep anything but basic necessities out of Gaza, but the remaining cargo stays the property of whoever owned it before. The ships on the other hand become Israel's property once captured. I think Israel should stop giving the ships back. That might discourage future flotillas. It would definitely discourage future flotillas if Israel exercised its right to hold the crews and any passengers who resisted capture as POWs. For the duration of the hostilities between the Palestinians and Israel. "Crew, pull over to Ashdod or spend potentially the rest of your life in a POW camp" is a much better threat than "pull over or we will lock you up for a few days before sending you and your ship home".
20. HRC "inspection"
Bob ,   L.A., USA   (06.18.11)
Offering to have the HRC or the UN inspect is like saying to the airport security "I don't have to let you search my bag, I have a note from my mommy that says she inspected it". Would these inspections include searching every single crate and box on the ship, or just looking into the hold and making sure no weapons were visible?
