knew English. People at hotels, in stores and hospitals conversed in Hebrew and in English. Is English a language that is learned in Israel at the adult level instead of in schools? There was no shortage of adults who spoke English in Israel to me.

Everyone knows that China will be the great world power of the future. How about teaching Israeli kids Chinese? If Israel has a diplomatic corps and many business people fluent in Chinese, it will be of great help to us.

You'd be surprised at the number of people in the U.S. who have a hard time with English. The kids are being dumbed down and phonics have been replaced with sight reading, which severely limits the command of English!!! The worst off are the inner citiy kids that speak "ubonics" slang for ghetto talk. I had the unfortunate opportunity to have to teach an 8th/ grade class in New Mexico that ciould not read 2nd/ grade English!!! No wonder this country is in trouble and the people are in a daze!!! Too much flouride in the water!!!

It seems like less people speak english now than before. On my block besides myself the only other one that understands english is my cat. Of course in stores and hotels in the center of the country and Jerusalem there will be people that speak english. Both english and chinese should be taught in schools. The same for arabic. Start them speaking foreign languages when they are young.

I remember hearing yammer so curious & off on the streets of Chicago that it would occasionally stop me dead in my tracks, and have me shaking my head. Spooky as Hell at times.
