1. This guy should be in Sederot and be quiet.
Al   (06.20.11)
He is seriously stupid. Pandering to an entitlement fringe group who think the entire world owes them a living. Its that poor attitude that keeps people stupid, poor and pathetic. PM HARPER in Canda wiped the floor with the Liberals and its only because the poor shnooks of Quebecstan voted for the Socialist NDP including some bar girls reps did the NDP become the opposition. This imbecile PEREZ should get a clue...Israel is well on its way to becoming a wealthy nation, pity that his bozo followers will be left in the dust whining and bellyaching.
2. Turn Israel back into welfare state
Rachel ,   US   (06.20.11)
Let's go back to the 70's.
3. Those days are over Mr. Peretz MK!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.20.11)
Take the caps of you glasses and have a good look at the "welfare" states in Europe. Broke! Yes, Netanyahu's policies hurt and are still hurting the elderly, sick and the poor and the Government still looks after the rich but our economy is one of the best in the world and we would like it to remain so! Many remember inflation of 400% and we don't want to go back there! Campaign on reducing bureaucracy and encouraging competition and free enterprise the you might a a chance of reviving the dead Labor Party but I doubt it. You might tell Shelly Yachimowich that her idea of kids riding their bikes without protective helmets in town is dangerous and stupid and as an MK she should at least wear one when she rides her bike at it is STILL the law!
4. Send him to Cuba.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.20.11)
Maybe he'd like Venezuela or N. Korea better. Anywhere but here. What a moron. Nothing like trying to sell failure, who doesn't know that Socialism is a total failure everywhere it's been tried? Only some crazed academics still believe this dreck. Look at how well his ideas have worked out in Europe, Greece, for example. Peretz should be wearing a clown costume .......
5. Who wants to live off charity?
Golan ,   modiin   (06.20.11)
Yes keep the "poor" poor because its too hard to start a business. Keep the rich screwed (by cavalier politician thieves) so they will leave the country and the economy will suffer, unemployment grow, and "capital" is something we beg from Jews living in the Galut. Keep us living like Haredim who live off charity instead of industry.
6. LOOK! A gen-u-whine geen-yus.
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (06.20.11)
Tried. Tested. and, found to have failed at EVERY level, above the second degree family unit, socialism is an economic model that has seal it's own fate by it's inability to perform the functions it is touted to require for success. Repeat. Failed. Over and over. Everywhere. So here come Putz Peretz, of failure at war infame, to try to rehibitate his dung smeared reputation by harkening a return to dancing the Hora gaily around the Kibbutz campfires, while the Kibbutzim whither and disappear. Hint. Pssssst. Putz. Socialism and the "Welfare State" mean Poor health care. Poor food. Poor people. Get it? No. Of course you don't.
7. A vote for Amir Peretz is a wasted vote.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (06.20.11)
Israel is in need of new leadership and a more democractic political system.
8. Observation
Sagi   (06.20.11)
Capitalism can thrive and survive without Socialism. Socialism is totally dependent on Capitalism. Without the "fat cats" the "lean cats" will not survive. Taxes can only be excised from those who produce and earn, not from the weaker sections of society or the incapacitated ones or the lazy ones.
9. The US and Canada seem to know what is best for us!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.20.11)
Butt out of our politics! We don't tell you how to vote so don't tell us what to do! We are here, you are there. You want to play a part in Israel's wars, peace and other things then get over here, become Israeli citizens and then vote the way you want to! Yes, we know that the US "gives" Israel $3 billion but they demand their pond of flesh for it and get our technology. $3 Billion doesn't buy my country! I hope the Editor doesn't censor this!
10. Forward, Into the Past !!
Yisrael ,   Jerusalem , ISRAEL   (06.20.11)
God bloody forbid we should go back to a welfare state, where everybody can be equally poor ! A bankrupt, discredited philosophy from a bankrupt, discredited politician !
11. Labor's bid to destroy Israel's great economy.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.20.11)
Israel has built one of the Western World's strongest economies. Netanyahu and Likud have played a significant role in this great achievement. Now Peretz and Labor, whose appetite for destruction appears insatiable, want to destroy Israel's great economy. They want to introduce class warfare to Israel. In addition to shrinking Israel's waist to a suicidal 9 miles (15 minute tank ride). Let us use the next election to finish Labor off once and for all.
12. To # 3
Philip ,   Afula   (06.20.11)
Yachimowich does not need a helmet, there is nothing in her head to protect.
13. # sense at last
Gabriel ,   Netherlands   (06.20.11)
Finally some common sense. I've read comments by Americans and other non-Israelis calling Israelis who didn't agree with Likud politics traitors, and left wing nazi's. I've heard them calling Israelis who migrated from Israel cowards, and all from a safe distance. It doesn't matter wether or not you are jewish, as long as your not an Israeli, you have no moral right to tell Israelis what they should think or vote, because you dont have to live with the consequenses, regardless wether or not said vote is for Likud, Kadima or other.
14. Peretz
mindRider ,   The Free World   (06.20.11)
For G'd sake keep Mr.Stalin look-alike out of government to prevent Israel's economy from relapse into the socialist paradise.
15. my comment at #13 was directed to #9
Gabriel ,   Netherlands   (06.20.11)
16. Reply to n.2
A. Asssayag ,   France   (06.20.11)
Netanyahu has very little to do with israel's economic success. When the Labor party was in power during the Oslo years, the economic growth was not 5% but 7%. Israel has a great economic potential. Netanyahu's contribution, to it is overrated. However, one thing is sure. Back in the 60's, Israel was the Western country that had the smallest gap between the rich and the poor. Today, Israel is the worst after the US.
17. Israel is already a welfare state...
Avi ,   Israel   (06.20.11)
Without the generosity of America, Germany and others we would have been in deep sh$t long ago...
18. Once an idiot, stays an idiot At least we know where he's at
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.20.11)
19. Welfare State?
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (06.20.11)
Only Peretz is so screwy as to ascribe to form a "welfare State" This is usually perceived as a negative!!! Note to # 9. Be aware that the American money in Israel is NOT only from the government. American Jews are inundated by letters from various charities to help every cause in Israel--ranging from feed the poor, build a school to support the IDF. While Americans ( and I am sure other non-Israelis) are not serving in the Army ( although some do) and should not have the same say as those living in israel full time--they do give directly--so they do have an opinion. ( ask the chayal whose recreation facility was built 100% with foreign donations what he thinks)
20. Peretz
Zvi merovic ,   saskatoon   (06.20.11)
Finnaly we have somebody who relly understand the issues of the simple man in the country.I remember the old days . We were nor riches but we had a simple and a very decent life until labor leaders began to behave as a right wing party and the voters play on hand of Begin ethnic damagogy
21. wrong translation, wrong connotation
traintalk ,   upcountry israel   (06.20.11)
The editors should know the connotation of the phrase "welfare state". And I am sure that they used the one they did in order to marginalize Amir Peretz. The man is right. The idea is reemphasizing the social programs that will make us all part of the same country again. What is wrong with that? I won't vote for a party that won't do that in the next election.
22. Rich and poor Jews
Jone ,   Stavanger, Norway   (06.20.11)
I am very worried about Israels future. More and more Israeli Jews seems to live in poverty. A lot of Israeli Jews are going hungry to bed. I started to study Israel more closely after the 2006 Lebanon war as I did not understand why so many Israeli soldiers seemed so unmotivated to battle Hezbollah. I have come to conclude that many Israeli soldiers will not feel motivated when he/she feels as a second rate Jew compared to those who have been born with talents that makes it easier to earn big money. Why offer your life when you are treated like a loser? How loyal would you feel towards your country when it makes it difficult to purchase an apartment or food for that sake. Thank your for reading this. Jone
23. Moses and Jews had to wonder in the desert for 40 years
leo ,   usa   (06.20.11)
before former slaves died out. Israel got rid of socialism only one generation ago. Need more time. Perez and his likes will begin retiring soon enough.
24. Peretz trying to mimic David Levy
Sam ,   Canada   (06.20.11)
Peretz of Moroccan origin is trying to rally the workers to his side as did former minister David Levy of Moroccan origin. It worked for Levy. Peretz is hoping it will work for him.
25. Who is working, fighting and giving his life?
Susya Bar Dror ,   IL   (06.20.11)
Not the rich and their sons. They live abroad and have a good life with the money skimmed of from their parents. The rich care about their wealth and not about the welfare in Israel.
26. 29
jpk ,   hadera israel   (06.20.11)
it is much more than 3b, stupid! I hope the Editor doesn't censor this!
27. Manpower Companies
Ethan Schwartz ,   Eilat   (06.20.11)
The Manpower companies and import of foreign worker began and was supported during Amir Peretz's stewardship of the Histadrut. He has never done anything good for the Israeli worker. If Labor wants to arise from the ashes it needs to purge from it's small numbers the likes of Peretz. When he loses the primary he will likely abandon the party in any case.
28. Another extreme leftist without a clue
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.20.11)
"are more moderate than their leaders, and are willing to make courageous compromises in order to obtain peace, including supporting the release of terrorists with blood on their hands in exchange for (kidnapped soldier) Gilad Shalit." Actually it is the opposite of the facts. Most Likud supporters are to the right of Bibi who is far to left of any European or Western leader.
29. Susya Bar Dror @ 25, and this is why you posted what you
leo ,   usa   (06.20.11)
posted while yourself sitting abroad and having good life.
30. Perez
Bruria   (06.20.11)
Seriously! The guy who didn't know enough to remove the caps from his binoculars? As for socialism, look at what it did to East Germany, Russia, and every other place who tried it! Look at the US--obummers socialism is ruining what was the greatest country in the world. Perez needs a nice padded cell and a white jacket with long sleeves...
