It's a fallacy to say that Israel is becoming poorer. While a percentage of the population may be poorer, the percentage that is so, are the haredim, who increase in population much faster than the rest and don't work. Most of the arabs are also like the haredim. Israel can also reduce many of its taxes on imports so that consumers can afford more. If Peretz's policies are implemented, then I have a feeling there will be a lot of people making Yerida or giving up on Aliyah (esp from Western countries).
