Jonathan wasn't convicted of treason, he was convicted of whistle bowing and shaming the US and its official policy of machiavellian, double dealing... which is par for the course for the US. Yitzhak Rabin once noted that every few years, Israel catches an American spy, but rather than making the scandals public, covers them up and deports the agents. How about the next time a CIA spy is caught, exchange him for Pollard?

sadly, jonathan pollard is a political "hot potato" for the israeli government. israel stands to gain nothing, but lose a lot, by acknowledging him as working for israel. he is, after all not israeli. by contrast, gilad shalit is undeniably israeli, and therefore the government is ready to "pay any price" (in this case, release a thousand arab terrorists) for his freedom. not to do so would send a very negative signal to those serving in the israeli army. or maybe the shalit family has been more successful in mobilizing political support in israel, by such tactics as protesting in front of the prime minister's residence. jonathan pollard's family do not have the leverage to pressure the israeli government, or the chutzpah to stage a sit-in in front of the white house, and so he remains in prison, longer than any american spy ever convicted of spying for a foreign country.

If Pollard had been U.S. leaders' top favorite - a Muslim; it is extremely doubtful that Pollard would have spent even one day in jail. Muslim Brotherhood operatives have been quietly appointed by Obama to key positions in the American government. Pollard was eligible to apply for parole after eight years and six months, though he has never done so. Does anyone know why? Ina anycase, at the time of Pollard's sentencing there was a rule that mandated parole at thirty years for prisoners like him if they had maintained a clean record in prison. That parole date would be November 21, 2015

Unconditional loyalty to our country has no price and should not be cashed in at a later date. It's sad his father died, but he was caught spying - he was paid for his servicesand wasn't forced to do it.
