1. Stupid, stupid, stupid...
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.20.11)
Netanyahu should not be announcing his intentions. He should just do it. By announcing his intention, he is justifying torture of Shalit...
2. Same Conditions as Shalit
emanon ,   USA   (06.20.11)
Keep the arabs under the same terms as Shalit. If the arabs free Gilad Shalit . . . the terroristinans still stay in jail, but they can exchange mail with their families while they remain in solitary confinement. If the terrorstinians go for one year without committing a terrorist act against Israel, renounce violence, open themselves to third party inspection and renounce their charter calling for the destruction of Israel, the prisoners may go outside their cells.
3. Be smarter...
Adam ,   Golan Heights Israel   (06.20.11)
Tit for tat does not work. Charge the arabs for the cost of feeding and lodging the terrorists, to be deducted from the funds they receive via Israel. I, as a tax-paying Israeli, object vehemently to paying for the upkeep and university degrees for terrorists whos' holy mission in life is to slaughter jews, and other infidels. Let their people pay for their upkeep.
4. too little too late
fad egypt   (06.20.11)
only strong pressure on hamas will bring shalit home there must be a political , economical and security embargo on hamas to force it to free shalit israel must cut the electricity , water from gaza and must stop any kind of aid to the strip and to launch a military operation in gaza to pressure hamas to free shalit for example in 2008 war israel gave hamas a tough lesson israel should ve exploited the cease fire as bargain price to free shalit but the weak government of the trio olmert livni and barak gave hamas a cease fire on a silver plate shalom
5. Bibi must have grown a pair when I wasn't looking.
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (06.20.11)
6. Take some hamas-leaders...
(06.20.11)
Take som eHamas-leaders and let they serve jailtime in a bunker. Do not let they see ANY daylight and no visit alloowed from ANYONE. Then continue to nap a hamass-leader every week. Then hamass will be afraid that Fatah will take over the power and release Gilad Shalit
7. Well do ya think?
LONG OVERDUE   (06.20.11)
Should have been done years ago. There is no deterant. They know they will be treated like royalty and let out in a few years. Doesn't matter how many they have killed. I SAY TREAT THEM LIKE POLLARD!!! SOLITARY CONFINEMENT, NO PRIVILAGES. NO HOPE FOR RELEASE. NO VISITORS. PERIOD.
8. At last
jsm   (06.20.11)
A bit of progress!!!
9. Sarah B # 1 yes it's stupid
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (06.20.11)
Your right and it's not going to gain anything. If these people don't care about their children they are not going to care about the prisoners They have no intention of giving up Shalit. If all their demands were met they would just create more demands as an excuse to hold him. Force and or fear is all that will motivate them to do the right thing.
10. Nap a hamass-leader every week..
Beary White ,   Norway   (06.20.11)
...and put him into a bunker without any possibilities to communication. When the number of hamass-leaders is going low, then Fatah will be a treath to hamass, and they will release the son of Israel. If Gilad Shalit has been murdered by hamass, then the hamass-leaders are available for joining OBL in the fire.
11. "Mulling": this is adding insult to injury, what a jerk!
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.20.11)
12. NOW You're Going To Do This???
Edward ,   Savannah, USA   (06.20.11)
Looks more to me that an election is coming up and Bibi needs to make himself look good!!! After he is re-elected, he'll be back to his old liberal self and the terrorists will get their perks back because of world outcry. Meanwhile, Shalit is as good as dead. He should have been a bargaining chip for the Israelis on any deal from the beginning as was pointed out in these talkbacks.
13. Why wasn't this done years ago?
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.20.11)
Better late than never, as the saying goes. However, it is incomprehensible why Israel's government waited years after Shalit's kidnapping to begin getting tough with Hamas. This and far stronger measures should be standard practise from now on.
14. Prisoners' benefits!
IRAN#1   (06.20.11)
What;s that, instead of one beating a day they will have to endure 3 beatings a day now?!?!?!
15. about time
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (06.20.11)
Finally, maybe Israel will stop treating prisoners as if they are in a hotel. to # 14-- you are mixing up the way you and HAMAS treats Shalit and Arabs it disagrees with with the way Israel does. Arabs in Israeli prisons: a. earn high school and college degrees b. have commissary accounts and use them freely c. have visits from family d. have special diets e. have their religion respected ( Korans and prayer rugs) f. receive special diets as needed.
16. It's about time
diana ,   buenos aires, argent   (06.20.11)
it's about time to cancel ALL the benefits.
17. To: Eaglebeak at No. 9
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.21.11)
We need to go after the children of Hamas' top leadership. Kidnap them. Refuse to allow the Red Cross to have access. Two can play this game and, frankly, their children are walking targets -- they live very grandly and ostentatiously in Europe. Time to put the tuchis mit in tisch.
18. To: No. 14
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.21.11)
That's an Iranian thing; not a Jewish thing. Only in Iran are people flogged before being hanged. Is there no end to your depravity?
19. Children of Israel are not bargaining chips!
Ypip ,   Canada   (06.20.11)
Any force that attempts to do such a thing is intrinsically evil according to Law, and most us here realize lies piled upon lies. ENOUGH!
20. to number 14
Barney ,   USA   (06.20.11)
you have Israel confused with iran where torture and rape are the standard of operating procedures. even the arabs admit that. they get degrees in Israeli prisons.
21. shalit
spookey ,   birmingham uk   (06.20.11)
cant see that working ,hamas dont givea fig for human life ,
22. Ynet readers know I've been saying this for a long time
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.21.11)
Not just cancel their benefits, but impose the exact same conditions that Shalit gets: -all Palestinian prisoners go into solitary confinement 24/7. If we have to build holes in the ground to hold them in - so be it. Nobody will know because we won't say anything, just like Hamas. -all Pal prisoners will be under a total communications ban. All their current privileges will end: no family visits, no exercise periods, no education classes, no red cross visits, no lawyers visits, no letters, no phone calls, no newspapers, no group prayers. -all Pal prisoners will still get 3 meals/day, and a bucket in the corner. Bibi will go public once, and once only to tell the families of the Pal prisoners who have enjoyed visiting their jailed brethren: you will never see them or hear from them again until the Red Cross is allowed to visit Gilad Shalit as demanded by international law. If the Red Cross sees Shalit, then the Red Cross will be allowed a visit to the Pal prisoners. If Shalit's family is allowed to visit him once, then Pal families can go visit once. If the Red Cross determines that Hamas provided Shalit with a toilet, then the Pals will get to use the toilet instead of a bucket. Quid pro quo.
23. For Sarah B
Jon ,   Baltimore US   (06.21.11)
You need to drop the USA from your lines as you only preach the lines of ultra-nationalist Israel. The people of the US are tired of the hatred preached by both sides there. If you have not seen that this is true then you never go outside your small circle of zealots to see it.
24. So this means... What?
LebanonPride ,   Canada   (06.21.11)
Conditions for all Palestinian prisoners - including the hundreds of women and children - are already crap. This will just create more hate from the families of the prisoners. This government doesn't seem too smart...
25. PA Prisoners
Nili   (06.21.11)
When pictures of killers sitting together in jail enjoying a feast are sent over the internet, when those who murder Jews get a Masters Degree in jail--we have really lost our collective minds. Why even bother putting them in jail They live better than a large number of Israelis who have not broken any laws.
26. #14 - did you accidentally read Press TV?
William ,   Israel   (06.21.11)
Accusations of rape, beatings, mal-treatment in Israeli prisons have all been unfounded. So-called beatings but no bodily marks? What are the Israelis using...cotton batons? Rapes? The Turks made the mistake of voicing this accusation and "Palestinian" women almost tore their heads off for this lie. You can ask the families of prisoners and the ICRC about conditions in Israeli jails. Most leave with a university education and 3 square meals a day - ON MY DIME!! Must be why that young man from West Bank purposely threatened Netanyahu so he'd be jailed because there's nothing for him in the West Bank. Personally, I believe Hamas terrorists should be treated as those in jails run by their benefactors - then we'd see some change. Hey buddy, could you spare a few Basij for a week?
27. #23 - "people of the US are tired of the hatred"
William Geller ,   Israel   (06.21.11)
Yes, they are but they are not wavering in their support of Israel and their lack of support for the "Palestinians". They're also over-whelmingly pissed off at the Left hijacking the country and forcing an unpopular agenda. Perhaps you saw the standing ovation Netanyahu received from Congress recently? It certainly pissed off many on the Left, including Arianna Huffington from Huffington Post, and the Code Pink crap crowd.
28. #24 - Are they? It's still better than in PA prisons
William ,   Israel   (06.21.11)
definitely better than in Hamas prisons. You know - when you're dealing with racist Arabs who's only platform for existence is to negate someone else's existence, there's really no more hate to create from these people. After all - these are people who support Hamas' war crimes completely and believe Jews are sub-human. So...we should be concerned that instead of 99.7% of hatred, they might have 99.8%? Honestly, who cares about you racist hacks who's existence is a big black scourge on humanity? The fact you would send your own kids to commit a war crime against another kid shows your own depravity. In the Western world, we lock people like that up. In the Arab world, you vote them into office and give them 10 story high posters in the capital.
29. #24 ;LEBANON'S SHAME
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.22.11)
Do something worthwhile, bring them a box of cookies It means that thugs, killers, kids that threw rocks at Israeli civilians or perform any criminal, get a chance to see their lawyers and families, which Shalit doesn't get Just because someone is a woman or child is no excuse, when they commit a crime, entitles them to same punishment that men & adults get There’s a legal statute “Non sui Juris”, look it up, maybe the meaning will sink in
