Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (07.03.11)
I work and pay taxes and I don't have enough money to pay my bills. I don't drink or smock - can't even think of affording this luxary. And here, from my tax moeny, they smoke and on top of that they think they have right to protest.

5. Suggest mandatory boot camp for 1 month for ALL heredim
Idea ,   Israel   (07.03.11)
no smoking, rigorous exercise. If they survive they will definitely be better off, in better health to serve HASHEM.
6. Against Halacha
Meir ,   Beit Shemesh   (07.03.11)
It is totally against Halacha to smoke. The Chareidim are so particular about everything. I can't understand why on this they are so lax. Everything has to be glatt kosher, lemehadrin min hamehardin, seperate seating, etc etc, and then they smoke, destroying their lungs, and injuring themselves physically, which is forbidden. Can someone explain to me why?
7. Smoke,no mirrors
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (07.03.11)
Who is financing the cigarettes ?.do they buy cigarettes with money meant for bread and milk for their children ?. Do they realize, that like cigarettes, they too may go up in smoke.
8. How do they manage?
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (07.03.11)
How do these guys manage when Rosh haShana is followed by Shabbat so they can't light up a fag for 3 days running? They must be nervous wrecks by then.
9. What about all you fat people?
A Healthy Smoker ,   Israel   (07.03.11)
You all know that being overweight is worse than smoking, but smokers are an easy target. How about they start banning all fattening foods. Lets see how all you overweight people feel about that! No more bonbons, no more cinnabons, no more twinkies, no more rugalach, borekas, bamba, chumus...
10. to #9
Golan ,   modiin   (07.03.11)
fat people don't stink a cafe while enjoying the fresh air outside. We might like a slice of cake with our coffee but you don;t have to look. We can;t avert our noses. And besides smoking is something you can quit today. Shedding the excess falafel takes a few days.
11. Cut their support and welfare for all the smokers
Moish ,   Canada   (07.03.11)
Smoking is against halacha, but for them being religious is only a cultural thing.
12. Your smoking kills other people
Naomi   (07.03.11)
who are forced to breathe in your smoking in the public area. Fat people's diet does not affect others in the public.
13. if they can afford to smoke its time to cut their benefits
Haim ,   Tel aviv   (07.03.11)
14. I'm with you, #9
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (07.03.11)
We've complied with all the tax hikes on our habit and restrictions as to where and when we can smoke. Certainly, I do, I expect so do you and most of us. I am sick and tired of this holier-than-thou prissy, pissy vendetta against smokers. It is no longer politically correct to direct your fury towards any other minority, but non-smokers appear to feel not merely justified, but positively pious, in raging at us. Who knows what their own hidden vices might be.
15. Let us breathe in peace!
American Sabrah   (07.03.11)
Who turn to drugs because they have nothing else to live for.Smoking is for losers and no one benefits from them.
16. Charedim who smoke are like other
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (07.03.11)
people; they have flaws. Why so much denunciation? You Talkbackers denounce the Charedim the way we, Israeli Jews, are summarily denounced by people in the international community. When we, Israeli Jews, aren't perfect, they jump all over us because we are flawed. An "No", I am not Charedi in case anyone wants to accuse me of supporting my own faction. And "Yes", I have wishes regarding them, that they'd all be more outgoing and reach out to their fellow Jews the way the Lubavitchers and Breslovers do.
17. Badatz
Michael ,   Haifa   (07.04.11)
Now I understand why the Badatz do not issue a kashrut certificates for Cigarettes, and, as a consequence, milk their "unserer" for more money.
18. "Yeshua"
Actual Observant Jew   (07.04.11)
A) You're a Christian calling yourself a Jew, at least be honest about your beliefs. B) Haredim have only existed for a few centuries, so your timeline is well over a millennium off. C) Therefore, Jesus never said any such thing. D) Incidentally, you happen to be correct that they are hypocrites...but so are you. So who are you to cast the first stone ;-)
19. Healthy?
A Healthy Person   (07.04.11)
No fatty foods are damaging every single time you eat them, they are only bad in excess, like everything else. Smoking even one cigarette is in excess and numerous studies have shown that even one increases your cancer risk. You may be a healthy smoker now, but you're much less likely to be healthy in 20 years compared to a non-smoker.
20. Smoking is a scourge
Leon Zacharowicz MD ,   New York, USA   (07.04.11)
Along with alcoholism, nicotine addiction resulting in cigarette smoking is one of the preventable causes of a host of diseases, ranging from impotence to cancer to heart disease and stroke. The addiction to nicotine is even greater than that to heroin. A campaign to eliminate smoking has to start with teenagers. If someone does not smoke until he / she is 21, the chances of starting and becoming hooked are extremely low.
21. Fight Back! Boycott Cigarettes!
Michael Storch ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.04.11)
Learn from your cottage-cheese boycotting brothers & sisters. The way to force lower cigarette smoking is to stop smoking!
22. 18 Assumer
Actual Actual ,   Observant Jew   (07.04.11)
Quoting Yeshua, when he was right, doesn't automatically make one a Christian any more than quoting Shakespeare makes one British. If you think Yeshua was never right then your over the top, mate. Learn to judge the statement rather than the messenger. A fanatic who puts ritual over tsedek, by any other name, is still a hypocrite. The relatively modern phenomenon of Haredim is hardly news. Pedantic way to avoid a simple truth, seems to me.
23. Ribi Yehoshua called out all hypocrites.
Eliyahu Konn ,   Powell, OH   (07.04.11)
#4 is generalizing since not all Haredim smoke. Actually the use of the term Haredim is oxymoronic in most uses today to define people or a sect. But the article is talking about people who feign to serve HaSheim and actively destroy their own bodies, and worse than that pass on that practice to their children. #18 on the other hand is not very clear about who he is talking about though he "knows" #4 is a Christian?? He may be correct and he may not be. If he is wrong it would be libel which is a gross miss step prohibited by Torah. #4 may be indeed a Jew that knows history better than #18. #4 may distinguish between the historical Torah observant Jew according to many reputable rabbis and scholars and the other Roman conceived hologram. #18 is mixing the names at best. He is inadvertently preaching Christianity more than #4.
24. 23 is more netzarim nonsense. i mean nutzarim
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (07.04.11)
teaching about jesus again, eh while calling yourselves jewish. fine by me, just thought i'd help you marginalize your group further.
25. Chareidi Call Center???
yaacov Haber   (07.04.11)
I'm looking all over for the number. No one can find any pro smoking chareidi leaders. Is this real or just another chareidi bashing article?
26. Cigarettes and hypocrites
Eliyahu Konn ,   Powell, OH   (07.04.11)
Ribi Yehoshua called out all hypocrites. #4 is generalizing since not all Haredim smoke. Actually the use of the term Haredim is oxymoronic in most uses today to define people or a sect. Define your terms as the meaning of words are ever changing.
27. 24 & who are you, formerly, to "marginalize" anything here?
Jew ,   Israel   (07.04.11)
28. Hopefully Yisha won't get more money...
Moshe ,   Israel   (07.04.11)
