although 80% of American men are circumcised the rate has dropped --today only 50% of babies in US are being circumcised. In other english speaking countries which had 90% rates in the 1950s the rate has dropped to near 0% since doctors stopped recommending the procedure in the second half of the 20th century. Since this drop has not been followed by health problems it is likely that the rate among non Jews and Muslims in the USA will also drop to near 0%. Since there are so few Jews/Muslims in the states it seems best not to try and ban it. Doing so creates the misleading impression that the proposed ban is an attack on Jews and Muslims. This leads to an emotional reaction which is not helpful for any sort of sane debate about the issue.

instead of banning it they should stop encouraging it- the Jews and Muslims could still do it, although personally I consider it mutilation. Up until now some doctors have practically brainwashed parents into letting their boys be circumcised even if they were not Jewish- this is where I would draw the line. On the other hand: why not do it at 15? Then the boy can decide if he wants to go through this painful ritual- to do it on a tiny baby is cruel- and only morons would insist that it does not hurt.

This attack on circumcision is a thinly disguised attack on religious instructions, no more, no less. Why do uneducated non medical non professionals think they can dictate religious and health practices to all ? Studies in Africa show men with circumcisions have fewer cases of aids. since there are already laws on the books that forbid passing laws to ban medical procedures, The Fresno Bee reports. The San Francisco law if passed cannot be enforced since State law forbids such laws.

"Why not do it at 15?" For the simple reason that circumcision at puberty or later becomes a far more complicated procedure. At that age, boys already have erections that tear out stitches, re-open the cut and cause great pain and high risk of infection. A person circumcised in infancy certainly doesn't remember anything about his own circumcision, whereas a person circumcised as a teenager or adult certainly does. I agree that a doctor shouldn't "sell" circumcision to undecided parents, but if asked, the same doctor is required to give the best and fullest information at his disposal as to the benefits and disadvantages of the procedure. It's called "informed consent" and is a legal requirement in the US and many other countries. You may consider circumcision "genital mutilation", but have you asked women what they think of it? Studies have shown that an overwhelming percentage of women prefer to have sex with a circumcised man for esthetic reasons. In many studies, large numbers of women claim they would refuse to have sex with an uncircumcised man. Read some of the studies and decide for yourself.

I think this is a mens issue which has nothing to do with us. I would be angry if men spoke up for female circumcision on the grounds that it a uncircumcised woman looks disgusting.

They distributed a comic book (you can see it on the Internet) called "Foreskin Man" featuring a blond Aryan superhero who "rescues" a Jewish baby from "Monster Mohel." The book leaves no doubt that their leader, Matthew Hess (relation to Rudolf?) is an anti-Semite.

more likely the comic was designed to create a sensation for publicity purposes. Genuine antisemites would hide their motivation. Hess is a circumcised man who feels angry about what was done to him. He's on a mission to save others from the same fate.

Just my humble personal opinion: An uncircumcised man looks disgusting. Not that I have all that much experience, but seriously, it does look disgusting, and I'm sure it's much less clean and hygienic.

I do not live in the U.S. but did see a news report about this comic book. I found it disgusting, offensive, insulting, and anti semitic. There is no doubt in my mind after seeing the images in the comic book that this whole circumcision ban campaign is a sole attempt to discredit, slur and alienate the Jewish people. My personal opinion: the uncircumcised p. is disgusting, unclean, and unasthetic. I would never ever be with an uncircumcized man, nor would any other woman I know.

CA has a reputation for being "tolerant," but it is one of the least. My brother lives outside of Santa Cruz., an area where people have to go out in the middle of the night to trim their rose bushes. In the US, circumcision is a cleanliness issue. (Most Americans take 2+ baths/ showers a day). I live on the Gulf Coast, an area originally settled by the French and Spanish. Circumcision is widely practiced where I live and not because of a large Jewish population. In fact, most people are Catholic.

How many more of G-ds laws will they make illegal? They approve of sodomy and now disapprove of circumcision? Small wonder they call California "the land of the fruits and nuts".
