31. Anthem
Ezra ,   Florida   (06.27.11)
Right on.These liberal morons should be ousted from leading academia anywhere. Follow the example of Geert Widers and his true opinions about muslims. But what am I wasting my time by writing this? The morons in liberal Ynet did not print many of my realistic comments in the past, because it did not sit right with them and I doubt that this one will not meet the same fate. It is a wonder that they printed the Haifa article in the first place.Sickening. Just sickening.
32. Acadamic moral cowrdiness
Avram Godsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (06.27.11)
Two reasons for that: One good value insert in wrong media, Two: wrong value insert in good media. The question: What is contribution of this Acadamic Center to Am Israel, and why depleting instead to integrate Israeli acadamic values ( Some would like to compaire it with Arab Spring) Despicable is the way of decission making and aproving without consideration of conequence.
33. Regrets
tiki ,   belgium   (06.27.11)
You can only 'regret something that was yours when you've lost it. Haifa University is teaching how this is done. It seems that all the Jews who survived the persecutions, progroms & holocausts, those that have died for and those who have build the State of Israel, have done so in vain, for their children & grandchildren are willing to give it away in a heartbeat. They have lost all the values their ansestors have fought for with their blood. They will come to regret it, once they have lost it.
34. Hatikva is faulty
Adam ,   Jerusalem   (06.27.11)
The lyrics tio Hatikva are based on a poem that originally read "Lhiyot Am Yehudi B'Artsenu" It was rendered "Lhiyot Am Chofshi" by the same people that made Temini Olim throw their Tefillin in the sea and cut off their Pe'ot. The national anthem should be Shir Hama'alot.
35. Destruction from within
M ,   USA   (06.27.11)
I believe Lincoln said it best when he foretold that no enemy outside the US could destroy the country but that its destruction would come from within....you can say the same for Israel. Israel's destruction will come from within, its values and resolve eaten away by the Left.
36. Hey Gregg #6, you have no place in a democracy!
Sargent Preston ,   U.S.A.   (06.27.11)
When you are so ignorant not to relize that most national anthems do not say anything about minorities, I'd say you don't deserve to participate in a democracy. As Thomas Jefferson said, "Those who wish for a nation that is illiterate and free, are wishing for something that never was and never will be."
37. Haim, stop inciting
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (06.27.11)
Aa an Israeli-Arab, i do not think there is a problem playing the national anthem during the ceremony and I think it should have been played. However, claiming Israeli-arabs want to destroy the state and equate them to europeans who destroyed jews is pure racist and inciting. It makes haim loose any credibility he might have.
38. haifa u encourages anti-israel
moron ,   galut   (06.27.11)
academics and universities with such self-destructive anti-semetic thinking..worse they influence young minds already full of mush-shame!
39. Jewish pride
Yoel ,   OSSINING, NY 10562   (06.27.11)
#27 Terry--As usual, you are right-on. To be consistent, those who believe as the administrators of Haifa U do, the State of Israel should be dismantled; certainly its existence is offensive to Arabs. This situation is pathetic.
40. # 30 Correction
Religious Fanatic   (06.27.11)
Its only Tel Avivans like Haim,Sagi, and Greg who have no Jewish pride. They think they still live in the Soviet Union where religion was outlawed.Tel Aviv (and Haifa) is not the capital of Israel. The rest just don't know any better.
41. anti-Arab racism
Dutchy   (06.27.11)
The demonizing and dehumanizing statements about Arabs in this article are unbelievable nonsense and racist. Replace everywhere "Jewish" with "white", replace everywhere "Arab" with "black" and replace "Arab countries" with "Africa". Then read the article again. Does that make you think of some certain country somewhere in the south where they held such views as well in the past? If this article cannot be considered racist, then racism doesn't exist. The fact that some Arab countries treated Jews badly, does not give you the right to do the same to Arabs. The Arabs have civil rights? How generous. They should have the same rights as Jews in a country that likes to call itself democratic.
42. Take care with your langauge
Geoff ,   London (UK)   (06.27.11)
The author writes that the 'Jewish people finally found a place where it can express its national desires.' They didn't find 'a place' - langauge that plays into the hands of anti-Zionists who view Israel as an alien implant. They found their way back to their ancestral home.
43. Salma,having pride instead of shame
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.27.11)
is nothing to be proud of.
44. Curious
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.27.11)
I wonder if they sing Hatikva in the Haredi Yeshivot on ceremonial occasions.
45. SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!
Ester   (06.27.11)
46. #37 Rami. Ever read Fatah's Constitution?
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.27.11)
#37 Rami. Article 12 of Fatah's Constitution calls for the "complete liberation of Palestine, and eradication of Zionists economic, political, military and cultural existence". This is not the Hamas Constitution. It is "moderate" Fatah's Constitution. To point this out isn't incitement. It's simply taking "Palestinians" at their word.
47. Its only natural.
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (06.27.11)
In Israel the national anthem is Hatikva and thats what should be played at official functions whatever the make up of the audience is. I find the decision of the Haifa University to be very feeble minded and misguided.
48. Wow, Dutchy, are you dumb!
noa ,   israel   (06.27.11)
Have you seen how Jews are treated in Arab countries? Did you know Iraqi Jews had to escape in the middle of the night from Iraq with nothing on their backs? In Arab countries Arabs don't have civil rights. How dare you compare Israel to South Africa. We are nothing like South Africa. Go find some other excuse to be an anti-semitic. Keep your low I.Q. to yourself.
49. these people do not understand appeasement
szekely nicolett ,   A   (06.27.11)
it is the same with them in europe. appeasement for a muslim is a sign of weakeness. they won't be grateful , won't cooperate more. jews, do not give in! the world needs you!
50. Tolerance
Ruben Jacobi ,   UK   (06.27.11)
Also in the UK a Christian country religious symbol are not shown fear of upseting the large Islamic population, yet again kow towing to there growing ever bigger reputation for intolerance of their fellow man. ,their Imams have alot to answer for, possibly as well as some of our ultras.
51. Dutchy#41
avi ,   nyc   (06.27.11)
Arabs are not a race, In fact arabs and Jews are of similar racial stock. Hence you should be more careful in your use of the term racism. Someone from a Nazi collaborating nation should no better.
52. 49 Appeasement is giving food..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.27.11)
to the crocodile, with the hope to be eaten the last. [I don t remember who said that]
53. Kol od balevav
Sing it loud ,   Sing it proud   (06.28.11)
P'nimah Nefesh Yehudi homiyah. Ulfa'atey mizrach kadimah Ayin l'tzion tzofiyah. Od lo avdah tikvatenu. Hatikvah bat shnot alpayim. L'hiyot am chofshi b'artzenu Eretz Tziyon v'Yerushalayim.
54. Insane
Ron ,   OC, US   (06.28.11)
The Israeli national anthum gets played, Period! If any Arab takes physical exception, then the student is out of school. Deported to Gaza if necessary.
55. Separation of the State and Academia
Albs Hanna ,   London, UK   (06.28.11)
I thought Israel was a free-market economy and people were free to play the music of their choice at weddings, barmitzvas and graduation cerecmonies.
56. Most Disgusting
Samuel ,   Israel   (06.28.11)
Unbelievable!!! Is this land a Jewish country or not ?Where are we supposed to sing our national anthem if not in Israel? The staff of this faculty should be placed on probation. My my what a SHAME.Most DISGUSTING - Is the Haifa University a place of learning ?
57. Chaim, don't pretend you do not understand
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (06.28.11)
My post was refering to Israeli-Arabs, not fatah, hamas or palestinians.
58. I read the anthem was written in 1886
ghostq   (06.28.11)
and it is part of a poem an Israeli has written, sound interesting, anyway I think that if back than the writer whould have mention the minorities he would probably mention the arab mob that used to run through Israelis villages, they should be thankfull that the author never mention the reality back than.
59. THE IMPORTANCE OF NATIONAL ANTHEM
mark ,   t.a. israel   (06.28.11)
IN THE PRIMARY SCHOOL OF MY NATIVE COUNTRY EVERY MORNING THE STUDENTS SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IN ORDER TO BE A FAITHFUL CITIZEN TO THE STATE !! LETS DO THE SAME HERE IN ISRAEL !!
60. Kol haKavod!
ashirah.yosefah@gmai ,   Jerusalem   (06.28.11)
Thank you, Prof. Misgav! Your article is succinct, to the point, and, sadly, too close to the point! Thank you for having the courage to voice what needs to be said.
