31. Rabbi Dov Lior committed not 1 crime
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.27.11)
He did not right the book, nor did he ever violate a single law. The state has decided that they have a say in religious matters, which is in fact illegal. No the state is the ones committing the crimes, not Rabbi Dov Lior.
32.  This is morally objectionable on all counts
Benyamin Blatt ,   Brooklyn, New York,   (06.27.11)
We rightfully demand that the Arabs recognize Israel as the Jewish State, but then radical secularists demonize and criminalize the legitimate opinions of an accepted religious leader. Regardless of whether or not I personally agree with his personal perspective is irrelevant; the blatant disrespect for a Torah giant is in my opinion not only obscene on a religious level, it completely works against our ethos in the court of world opinion. It becomes fuel for the enemy, to say that we don't even believe in our own faith. If the Rabbi Lior's position is Ch'V' in anyway to be found faulty, then, it should be debated amongst his peers. This act is an abomination, and those who ordered it and carried it out should be held to account for their abuse of authority, through the same legal system that they exploited for their own political aggendas.
33. what is our zionist dream going.........
Ester   (06.27.11)
each time im scared to read ynet cause i know ill read such a things... HOW DO THEY DARE TO ARREST A RABBI LIKE HIM!??!?!??!?!?! do we get it?!??!??! israel is jewish
34. why havent they arrested Prof Newman at ben Gurion
rafi ,   israel   (06.27.11)
Although I don't like any incitement -it does seem strange that extreme left academics ( also deemed as their community leaders) should suggest that the rightists have their arms broken etc and yet there is no redress against their undeniable right to free speech. This seems a litle skewed, does it not? Maybe ex Bnei Akiva madrichim (Britain) like Prof,Newman who have "seen the light" are immune- Who makes these decisions?
35. Freedom of speech?
Jonathan ,   San Francisco   (06.27.11)
What happened to freedom of speech?! All he's doing is bringing up torah in a Jewih state and he gets slammed for it.
36. diplomacy
jeremy greene ,   manchester   (06.27.11)
as a religious leader, he should have more control of his tongue and be more diplomatic. although he has the right to express himself, no individual should have the power to legitmize the death of anyone!!!
37. Nr 30.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (06.27.11)
Persecution will become even worse when Endtime closes in. Arn.sweden.
38. to no.12
Jennie ,   US/Israel   (06.27.11)
Aren't you excited, michael !? Back after a long lol, sailor..? Where ever there is a chance to dig some dirt, you are right back at it.. "Nice" of you to pop up to the light from time to time... As usual, you won't enjoy too much support here...
39. hmm...
Jeff ,   Chicago, US   (06.27.11)
If I were told there was a country where prominent clerics justified the killing of innocent non-believers and people defended them as "religious sages" I would have thought it was Iran, not Israel... just throwing that out there.
40. #39 I will explain
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.27.11)
There is no legal justification for police kidnapping Lior. Some guy wrote a book called "Torat Hamelech" discussing an important legal question "when can innocents be killed at time of war" from a Jewish law perspective and Lior said the book met a reasonable academic standard. This same question is discussed in the 4th Geneva Convention and the International Court of Justice. It would be very interesting to know if the standards of "Torat Hamelech" were met in Obama's attacks in Afghanistan (at least 6000 dead civilians) and Libya (estimated 1000 dead civilians).
41. good work
marko ,   tel aviv   (06.27.11)
Well done to the Israeli police, for arresting this insighter of hatered, why not sooner?
42. The arrest is illegal
Shlatiel Maguen ,   Puerto Rico   (06.28.11)
The arrest is illigal because it goes against the expression liberty.
43. Arrested
J.K. ,   Brookllyn USA   (06.28.11)
Is this the imam who issued the fatwa against Rabin ?.
44. #38 Jennie, Quite a few supporters here.
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.28.11)
This rabbi costs Israel a lot of grief. Read the many replies here. Ask the deprived what they think of this rabbi and his cronies, ask children from families below the poverty line, ask students who cannot afford the tuition, ask relatives of wounded soldiers. Your name is spelled softly, Jennie, and I like it. Could YOU soften up a bit?
45. Are Rabbis somehow infallible like the Catholics?
Jo   (06.28.11)
In some religions their leaders take on immortal qualities, sort of live the Pope does in Catholism. They are infallible and their word law. They are even seen as having special powers to the creator Himself. This attitude lead to the dark ages in Christianity and gave Europe a cruel time. Perhaps they should have arrested him quietly. It seems to me that we are more and more worshipping Rabbis like a gurus, and worse and far more dangerous, they themselves are endorsing such views. Not much different from roman catholic priests and the theology of the Popes. Where're is the humble religious leaders, The wise ones. I despair of how we are heading.
46. freedom of expression
Ramon   (06.28.11)
..."grave violation of the freedom of Halachic expression, "???? even a Rabbi should not stoop to hatemongering- if a muslim cleric says it is ok to kill Jews, them everybody is up in arms- when a Rabbis says it is ok to kill non-Jews, it is OK? Religious "leaders", if that is what HE calls himself, should stay out of politics- , they should pray- quietly- it would do more good.....
47. to #40, torat hamelech allows killing of non jews not only
rachel ,   galut   (06.28.11)
during war, but in period of peace as well. Precisely anyone that does not follow 7 laws of noah is evil inclined and should be killed, even their children... that's what that gruessome, worrysome hatemongering book tells the world. Lior's arrest is overdue, same goes for Y Shapira writer of the torah hamelech and all who have publicly endorsed that piece of **** book.
48. #18
Stan ,   Israel   (06.28.11)
I would laugh marcel if you were not so pathetic. Long before anybody in Israel even heard of Gays, to be exact 40 years ago, the Moroccans in Kiriat Shmone were being attacked with rockets and mortars. Are they the wicked of Israel that you mentioned ?.
