31. never on a sunday
fk   (06.28.11)
growing up in Canada meant that all Jewish activities for kids were on Sundays, the YMHA and all the parochial schools, etc. Only there weren't any buses because Sunday is the day of rest. Parents would car pool us or else we'd walk in the freezing cold -till all of a sudden they started running buses, on a limited schedule and even started opening stores and services...this was in the '60's. it's 50 years later and I don't think I read anywhere about lightening striking.
32. #24-Israeli 2
Roey ,   Kfar saba   (06.28.11)
How about economically and financially? We're already on that path. Less money is going toward secular education. A poorly funded education system leads to a less productive and innovative workforce which forms the backbone of a vibrant economy. Less tax revenue is then generated. A brain drain is also a consequence. Left unchecked, where is money coming from support the haredi population while maintaining services that a modern country requires. If you want more reasons let me know, im saving some.

USA is Christian in nature but nobody is forced to do what Robert Patterson wants us to do.
34. #15 - Haifa is great !
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (06.28.11)
This is one of the reason I will never move out from Haifa. Haifa is still a tolerant open and modern city comparing the rest of the country that goes crazy. Proud Haifai
35. 30 american "sabrah" ???
Charles ,   Petachg Tikva   (06.28.11)
We want tio live in a free country WITHOUT religious coercision . It's far from being self hating Jews . We are proud to belong to OUR people , proud that after two thousand years , mostly seculars build our reborn State . We are 100 % ISRAELI [ not american ] Jews , and if we want to go to the beach on Shabbat , why should it be MORE expensive to do it [ taxis are taking more money , sheruts , the same ] Yes i DENY your 'god"s existence , prove me that this thing exists . It was not this thing that gave us OUIR country in 1948 . It were the mostly seculars or even anti religious who did it . Fasting on yom kippour ? why should we do it ? It was not this thing you call "god" that redeemed our country , or defended it against our enemies .
36. scott neuman # 29 . Yordim have to shut up
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.28.11)
The Jewish People has the full right to this country . This country belongs HISTORICALLY to us . We can see remains of this History anywhere in Israel . The old Jews believed in this fable called a god , but , for most of them , OPPOSED the creation of the modern Israel , and did'nt contribute much or anything to this .

Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.28.11)
People who "work" on rest days , have to do it on a volunteer base . They also are earning more , and receive another day to rest . If shops are open on Shabbat , it's because there is a demand for it . Nobody will open something for fun , it's business . As i lived for most of my life abroad , i know how it goes there . And there there is public transportation every day of the year , but here i'm at HOME בבית !
38. Buses on Shabbat save lives!
nadav ,   tel aviv   (06.28.11)
WIth buses on shabbat, less people will be on the roads and there will be less accidents (law of probability). Also, it will allow people who want to enjoy drinking alcohol to return home on public transportation rather than drunk drive! Also, the poor will be able to visit their relatives and work on shabbat to make ends meet by travelling to other cities. Otherwise, there is no way to get between cities on Shabbat! that's insane!
39. thanks #35 Charles!
nadav ,   tel aviv   (06.28.11)
you took the words right out of my mouth!
40. 36 The pioneers were educated...
Ora ,   JERUSALEM   (06.28.11)
by the "old Jews with G-D" Compare them with nowaday s - Americadreaming -youth. . The rest are details.
41. strange timing
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.28.11)
The extreme Left brought Hezbolla to the North, Hamas to the South and Fatah to the East. The IDF did not publish the results of last week's defense exercise, but they saw that the number of civilian casualties (deaths and wounded) in the next war thanks to Hamas, Hezbolla and Fatah attacks is mind -numbingly high. Why would Horowitz decide that now is the time to raise a non-issue that will weaken Israel even more?
42. UN working on that.
ygalg ,   isreal   (06.28.11)
then you endorsing a lie to gain support you did not earn with dignity. US will continue to support israel as long it serves it's interests. when israel will no longer be valuable strategically for US. it will end is support. your opinion about god has no role in real court. only evidence can passed. you don't have it. muslims have opinion too and christians and buddhists and hindus and Mormons etc faith is not factual
43. 40 , so what ? they became smart
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.28.11)
and left those tales to ignorant dark age "people"
44. 43 Not that smart...
Ora ,   JERUSALEM   (06.28.11)
as their children s dream is to leave them and Israel, for Amerika. May you have lots of Nahes of your children.
45. Enjoy your children on Shabat....
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.28.11)
instead of running amok on the roads.
46. Electric rail cars
Rocky ,   Texas   (06.29.11)
Use unmanned electric rail cars, you don't need to work on Shabbat, or you man servant, or your donkey...
47. To # 45
Norman ,   Rehovot   (06.29.11)
Not everyone has small children living at home or older childern living near by, To be with my children Ineed travel between 20 & 60 KIilometers.dpending on who I want to see. Your comment shows that you have no Idea of the real world.
48. To 44 & 45 . Enjoy on the beach !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.29.11)
Yes , those children are smart : they don't want to defend nor feed your "protegees" [ AmeriKa is NOT English , it's AmeriCa ] I prefer to go to the beach with them , eat sea food or something other , have a walk on the "tayelet" , give them a ice cream , and so on , above going to a beth knesseth to pray to an inexisting thing . If there were buses on Shabbat [ with 2 B ] there would be less problems on the roads . Many developped towns do everything they can to ban cars from entering the city . [ article in the NYTimes ] Less parking places , tramways have more "green lights" , pedestrians are favored . Here we are doing the opposite , no public transportation 7/7 .
49. No.
Kurt ,   USA   (06.29.11)
Forget it . Shabbat is a day of rest. Everything else is gentile.
50. 48 Your answer about the roads...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.29.11)
has sense. What i agree less,is that the youth abandone the land, their ancesters built, with blood and sweat.only to have an easier life. I don t think you would have done that.
51. 48 Listen Charles!
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.29.11)
Don t mention to me EVER about an inexiting thing.I can answer you ,but i don t want to offend you, although you offend me.You are telling me ,that i have no soul and that i am a robot?
52. Getting around on Shabbat
Yvonne ,   Netanya   (06.29.11)
I have lived here for over 40 years and I do not own or drive a car, it would be nice to have more transportation on Friday and Saturday perhaps I could enjoy more instead of sitting at home as cost expensive on private transportation available on shabbat, I travel with the Sherut which does travel on Shabbat, basically taking main routes, so if sheruts can travel on shabbat why not buses, drivers can get double pay and everyone would be happy, what is the difference if you already have cars on the road, sheruts running and even malls open on Shabbat - so having buses run would surely not make much difference to the religious, and in Jerusalem, areas have been blocked off for years..... on shabbat for any vehicles. So what's the problem itn't time we got into the 21st century.
53. 51 , Ora listen .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.29.11)
It are allo those facts [ buses , Lior who thinks he's above the State law , subsided buses for the charidim , and other such things ] that make me talk this way . First tell your "people" to be more tolerant , to let us live our life , not to dictate us what we may or may not do , and so on . Then i'll be less offending fine believers . There are limits on tolerance , sadly for you , you are the innocent victim of this . Sorry , but good people , even very good ones [ you ! ] , are victims of the reaction at bad people's behaviour .
54. 48 No buses,no overcrowded beach.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.29.11)
Super to spend time with the children on the beach.
55. 53 Charles, why should i offend...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.29.11)
you, because of some evil people in the secular society? If you have to get rid of your anger, because some of Haredi, please, not on me.A punching ball near your computer, might be useful.Lol.
56. Ora , can't you see the difference ?
(06.30.11)
When a "religious" one commits a crime , he's ALWAYS a criminal for me , noty a religious one . But here , what we are talking about , is COERCISION from religious people . No buses on Shabbat , religion . Lior : thinks because of religion he's above the law . If you don't see the difference , sorry , your "level" is too low ......
57. 54 , no overcrowded beach with charidim
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.30.11)
At least on Shabbat we are amongst mostly fine secular people
58. 56 Charles What difference?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.30.11)
When the secular teared off religious people of their home in Gush Katif,i felt personaly attacked. When they arrest a big Rabbi that represent the religious people, like a criminal in the street,i feel personaly attacked. When they tear off the house of a Haredi, while he is on duty in the IDF,i feel personaly attacked.Shall i make you a list of all the injustices upon religious people? But i don t think you are responsible of that, and i respect you .
59. 57 Really,what is the pleasure?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.30.11)
Without the Haredim, the whole beach seems depopulated.
60. Dont drive drunk
Jerry ,   Israel   (02.26.12)
Rather than look at this as a differance betwen religious and ireligious, lets look at the practical aspects. With or without busses, our youths are going to party on a friday night. Yes or yes they are goingto drink. I can therefore argue that having a bus service on friday night i.e. shabat is an act of picuach nefesh, as if even one young life is saved from death due to an alcohol based traffic accident, then it wil have been worth it I doubt this will be posted but if so I urge all of you who oppose shabat transportation to thinkagain
