1. I'm waiting for the movie.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.28.11)
Only kidding. Considering what a failure our Gaza policy has been so far, maybe the IDF should make this required reading.
2. ISRAEL'S BIGGEST ENEMIES ARE ITS RABBIS
stude ham   (06.28.11)

Reminds me of a character on Planet of the Apes....
4. Thank you!
Esaias Strandberg ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (06.28.11)
Wonderful parallell! Can't you put these nutjobs on an island with a bunch of ayatollahs and let them fight it out in ignorance, whoever loose gets the princess and half of the Middle East. Let us sane people have something in return for our sanity!
5. This is what happens when you drink the Kool-Aid
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (06.28.11)
6. bury all copies
david ,   jerusalem   (06.28.11)
i'm actually grateful to this guy. this only helps to show how archaic and and how much the torah should be put behind a glass in a museum to remind the world how wrong people has been for so long. It's about time to let real civilization take over, science and reason being the way to go, and forget prehistoric 'book of laws' that never actually worked
7. Lior is right.
Gábor Fränkl   (06.28.11)
8. If he had shown up when invited or made arrangements
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (06.28.11)
This would never have happened if he had not pretended that he was above the law. They tired to do it with his dignity in tact, but he refused a legal and reasonable request to come for questioning.
9. Rabbi Dov Lior
observer ,   Egypt   (06.29.11)
Rabbi, Dov Lior, Calls for Expulsion of Palestinians from their Homeland for the 'Ethnic Purity of Israelis' Dov Lior is an illegal immigrant from Ukraine who went by the name of Leibland before the family decided to change it shortly before the Nakhbah. He was born 1933 in Ukraine, in the town of Belz. As the Jewish kingdom far preceded the Arab Islamic Empire, the land theft by Arab Muslims far preceded that contemporary land theft by Jews. He studied at Lior Bnei Akiva Kfar HaRoeh high school of Yeshiva under Rabbi Kook, founder of the Yeshiva who invented that the coming Messiah can be an idea; the Zionism. The day before the Israeli army shot tank shells to disperse a crowd of demonstrators in Rafah, Rabbi Dov Lior issued a ruling that killing civilians during warfare is permitted if it will save [Jewish] lives. Lior’s made it an official Halachic ruling. He said "The law of our Torah is to have mercy on our soldiers and to save them. This is the real moral behind Israel's Torah and we must not feel guilty due to foreign morals.” Lior called civilians “so-called civilians”. Lior!, Do NOT add to or subtract from the pure words of G-d in the Torah (Deuteronomy 4:2, Deuteronomy 12:32, Proverbs 30:5-6, Revelation 22:18-19, Galatians 1:6-12).
10. Well you should have gone in when summoned in 1st place
Tsvika ,   Carmiel   (06.29.11)
11. to no.7
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (06.29.11)
Of Course Rabbi Lior is right ! Thank You, Gabor... There was no reason for his arrest.. He did not pretend anything...It is absolutely shocking, how quick are some israelis to attack a fellow Jew, while they don't care, when Jews are being attacked and terrorized on Israeli soil..Looks, that we need not pali terror any longer: our own "kin" can be filled with hate and revenge no less, then then chamas... A little fear of G-d and simple human decency, would do a lot of good to these idiots....
12. israel is a JEWISH homeland
yoni ,   tel aviv   (06.29.11)
there is no justification for us to be here if not for the fact that this is a Jewish homeland. if you dont like judaism you are welcome to leave to another country. if this is not a jewish country than how can you justify us being here???
13. drama queen
Golan ,   Modiin   (06.29.11)
this ridiculous behavior is hurting Israeli society. The police have a right to question, he has a responsibility as a national figure and public leader to answer. This country is a democracy and all political debate should be made within democratic principals. And no man is the torah. So please stop making a man a god. Rabbi Lior is no Shneerson or Jesus or Shabbatai Zeevi so don;t turn him into one.
14. Summoning Rabbis for arbitrary questionning
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (06.29.11)
This is a move that is designed to diminish the relevance of Torah Law, not to uphold secular law. Police administrators got into an ego battle and now are receiving their deserved outcome
15. Doctrine and Censure
Ehai ,   London, England   (06.29.11)
It is one step to exercise one’s natural right to free speech just to extol Torah with exegetical interpretations. It is another step to expound on someone else’s thought (i.e., the Torah) and give the plain or ‘peshat’ explanation that defends the principle tenet of the law. But if one intends to defend the divinity of the law “You shall not Kill”, well then one must take more than the simple step. One must take the full ‘remez’ hermeneutic stride, leap forth with the enthusiastic ‘drash’ confidence in the divinity of the law, and, ultimately land with your own feet on the ‘sod’ ground definition of that divinity. The Pardes of paradise on Earth is not a Theocratic State. It is a world that recognizes the place of religion in one’s life is foremost a universal human right. But that is not the only human right in the universe. There’s also “freedom of speech and expression” for instance. The author who wrote the controversial book ‘The King’s Torah’ has not found the scent of beauty in the Pardes garden. Neither has he seen enough of the inside of Department of Archaeology at each of Israel’s major universities in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. His book is history. It is not the future.
16. Israeli Police...KGB ??
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.29.11)
Had this Lior person been arrested by the KGB, he wouldn't be around to whine to the Press. Maybe the Israeli Police have one or two things to learn from the KGB
17. What do scholars have to do with violence?
Yehoshua Bader ,   Tzfat   (06.29.11)
B"H What do scholars have to do with violence? So why were they throwing rocks at the police?
18. The more publicity this gets.....
Kurt ,   USA   (06.29.11)
The more publicity this gets.....the more impact it has. Shema Israel.
19. Oh phooey, what hooey
Glen ,   Tel Aviv   (06.29.11)
He's just LOVING all the cameras on him. He doesn't need a god because he thinks he's it. Best thing for egomaniacs is to totally ignore this piss artist.
20. #9 most moral army in special morality different from others
shlomo ,   israel   (06.29.11)
21. The king of kings, Leibland from Belz
Gilbert   (06.29.11)
Ambushed like the bolsheviks, the KGB ?, and all I did was to agree with a book written by an important rabbi. Have you ever seen an important rabbi?. Here we go again; puffed up egos, buffoons, parasites living on the dole of an inept govt. to the tune of 320.000 shekel yearly ( a raise due shortly) with no other accomplishments than inventing every monday and friday a new celestial verse to be added to a fresly minted torah (sure not a koran?). And god said so and so, yet no one has ever seen him, talked to him, got a written reply from him (including Obama) ---- or this much touted messiah, another pipe dream in order to keep the restless natives in check,(to arabs its paradise and whores). What was the name of this important rabbi? I understand that the next sequel due " Meine Kampf, yiddish style " is only awaiting the approval and blessings of a certain Don Leibland (see # 9) from Belz. A Jew?. PS: our politicians built themseves a Golem, and now are at a loss what to do with him, except showering him with gold (in shekalim)
22. laughable remark on value of torah to jewish people
naftules ,   jerusalem   (06.29.11)
your so laughable ... the torah is what has kept the jewish people existing in history. without it we would have faded into history like the hittites!!! and it worked so well we even stuck around long enough to build a thirdcommen whealth .... wether given by a creator or invented by a brilliant man/men ... the torah is a powerful and strong entity that caused the jews to survive thoughout history.
23. Bibi the Pimple head
Ehud ,   Jerusalem   (06.29.11)
Get your house in order and show some hints of leadership. You are turning Israel into all that is negative with your lust for power and worship for the $. You dont offer hope , direction or even truth. You will destroy Israel!!!
24. # 12 Yoni- Israel is a democratic state
Haim ,   Tel aviv   (06.29.11)
Hate to break it to you but last time i checked Israel is a democractic country and not some lunatic state run according to some medevil jewish laws which has no relvence in modern day society. So if you cant accept that then i suggest you leave. I will gladly pay the taxi fare to the airport for you .
25. to no.24-Haim
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (06.29.11)
Yes, Israel is a mordern democratic state, the only democracy in the ME...Democracy comes with a double edge sword...In the Jewish State, it created lunatics like you, who are trying to destroy the very core on which the mirace of Israel was founded : OnTora, on Zionist "chazon",on hard work and much and never ending defense of our right to live and populate on our ancient land...If we didn't have the Tora, we wouldn't be here as Jews, today.. And if we wouldn't remain Jews, we wouldn't have Israel today...You and your communist supporters could argue and dissagree until you get blue...The fact is: There is no such thing as "medieval Jewish laws"..The same law you think is irrelevant now, has been the basis of the Moral Values for the whole Humanity, since the dawn of our Civilization.. Our Jewish Laws gave the World the 10 Commandments and many other Laws, that are still the basis of worlds Courts of Law.. You, Haim and your followers need to wake up before it's too late... Do you think, that by rejecting your Jewish values, you are a member of modern society ? What is the modern society ? Are you kidding yourself ? Please explain ....
