2. Forget that the guy is a rabbi.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.29.11)
It's only incidental to the principles involved. I take issue with a statement you made, ''When a rabbi is summoned for interrogation, he should report.'' Sorry, no one ''should report'' based on the flimsiest of reasons. This is granting far too much authority. In Israel, you can be hauled off to a police station, finger-printed, interrogated, based on an anonymous accusation. They can confiscate your computer & cellphone for examination, search your house, remove what they like, based on practically nothing. This is a power too easy to abuse. In the case of Rabbi Lior, what he said was plainly written, so what was the reason for his interrogation? Otherwise, your article is spot on. Laws must be equally applied or there is no law, disrespect for the law & for the state is the result. And that is exactly where we find ourselves today.
3. Was Professor Hillel Weiss of the Bar Ilan University jailed
SELF-HATING JEWISH ,   HYPOCRITES & RACISTS   (06.29.11)
for cursing? No, he wasn't because he's not a Rabbi but a "profressor" and can get away with it.
4. Rabbi Avigdor Miller's warning
deepthinker ,   YW   (06.29.11)
Liars! Liars! Liars! Rabbi Lior does not preach this kind of hate. It is pure anti-religious propaganda, designed to demonize the religious sector. Rav Avigdor Miller warned, many years ago, that the hatred of Hareidim is so strong in Israel, among the secular jews, that they will wage war on any religious Jew–and especially against Rabbinical leaders.
5. Why aren't Arab leaders detained??
Norman   (06.29.11)
When arab call out Nakba and death to the Jews do they get arrested ?? When the Sheiks and arab leaders call for death to the Jews do they get arrested ?? Here is was an obscure book and an author that no one heard of so its the media and Gov't prosecutors that make them famous. Oh by the way did you go thru the hate litrature or garbage the the so called arabs produce did you ever dare arrest one of the arab sheiks. The only answer is more Jewish scholars writing more on this issue and tell the elite lefties to bug off.
6. Finally
Naor ,   USA   (06.29.11)
A voice that makes sense! Incitement should not be allowed by anyone; Jewish or Muslim. Halacha and Sharia are both NOT the law of Israel and they were never intended to be. All must obey the rules. Now lets see some detentions of radical Islamist clerics.
7. Yes, please treat Arabs and Jews equally!
Jacob   (06.29.11)
When Israel has addressed the miriad ways in which it massively discriminates against Arabs and in favour of Jews, then it will be time to address the few ways in which it arguably does the reverse. Start by looking at the per-capita funding of different areas, the removal of citizenship of those who spend more than 7 years out of the country, the names on road-signs, the ban on Arab councils commemorating Nakba day, the discrimination in allocation of water between Jews and Palestinians, etc, etc, etc.
8. In the US no one is "summoned" to interrogation
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (06.29.11)
If the police here want to talk to someone, they seek him out, only taking him in for further questioning if circumstances require. The very notion of reporting because the police says so has a "Soviet" quality to it. Power corrupts, and the police can and do abuse that power, as Terry notes. Beyond that, nothing undermines confidence in equality before the law than selective enforcement. "Incitement" is a vague enough concept as it is, but to go after it on the right but not on the left, on Jewish but not Islamic is simply not acceptable. Nor is going after illegal Jewish construction but not illegal Arab construction. Or giving a priori greater credence to Arab claims over Jewish claims in the territories.
9. right and then start burning Torahs to please the leftists

Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (06.30.11)
11. Agree 100%
Vlad   (06.30.11)
Yoaz Hendel is spot on. Israel needs to have arrested and imprisoned Raed Salah, Ahmad Tibi, Taleb al-Sana, and Haneen Zoabi a long, long time ago.
12. A hypocrical load of tripe...
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (06.30.11)
Are you advocating equal protection of the law for all citizens: Arab, Jew and goy? Or merely angry because a rabbi, an employee of the state, was summoned, refused to appear and was arrested as the result.? I have no idea whether or not the police have the power to 'summon' individuals for questioning but in Israel apparently they can. The US usually requires a warrant signed by an impartial magistrate, but in Israel, the land of the kangaroo justice system, apparently such is not required. The real issue is whether or not, under Israeli law, there is such a thing as 'equal protection'. I haven't seen it yet. If you are advocating for such, and the end of Jrewish dominance. let us know. Otherwise, your argument is fallacious and deserves nothing. Merely another example ogf the Israeli whine.
13. A "well known book" calls for Jews and christian's murders
Trumpeldor   (06.30.11)
and I see no reactions from leftists !
14. to 10
(06.30.11)
frst iam confused about your post and my question is -- is salah treated in a better way than the rabi ??but i want to tell something about salah the man says his mind as it is the right and he know may he will be in a jail or may he be in grave he do it from his religouse and national aspect as an araby and moslem and first of all as a palastinian but seculars in israil do their mind if it is pure it is only fore free speech and democracy but alas i see it is not pure it is the outside clothe only
15. Equal attitude...
Alf Red ,   Londonistan   (06.30.11)
I usually do wholeheartedly agree with Terry from Eilat, but not this time. And I think the Author of this article is wrong. How can we demand an "equal" attitude to a Rabby, who endorsed a book on ancient rules of war in Judaism, and Muslim preachers openly inciting to murder of Jews? This is insane!
16. #14 Salah is treated worse then the Rabbi - but both misuse
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (06.30.11)
To respond to your question. Salah is treated worse then the Rabbi - but both misuse their position to incite violent responses from their flock. Both have been accused of inciting violence against others based on their religion. The main difference is Salah has served time for attacking police officers. Speaking your mind is not a protected right when you incite violence or encourage your people to commit violent acts against others.
17. the ugly equality reality
Golan ,   modiin   (07.01.11)
if there was equality between Arabs and Jews then Jewish violence would "force" the government to remove the Arabs from Israel for the illusory lie called peace.
18. #13 (like.)
Golan ,   modiin   (07.01.11)
19. author is wrong
joe   (07.01.11)
The author is wrong. Arabs in Israel are questioned by the police all the time, it's just not a news item. Moreover, an Arab in Israel would not dream of refusing to show up for questioning, because he would be arrested immediately, not after several months of begging him to show up.
