1. Question
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.03.11)
What are they going to do about Petah Tikva since the Arabs don't have the letter 'P' for things like 'Palestine'?
2. the proper name!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (07.03.11)
why not use the proper name - "al quds AL YAHOUD"?!
3. Granating Arabs Individual And Not National Rights
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (07.03.11)
B"H Clearly, the Arab language signs should come down altogether as they are an expression of Arab national, as opposed to individual rights. The State of Israel should not be granting Arabs national rights on the Land of Israel if it wants to be perceived as "Jewish".
4. IDIOT
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (07.03.11)
Let's hope he has abandoned the idea to call Jerusalem Yerushalayim. That would be the most idiotic thing ever. Jerusalem is an internationally recognized name, Yerushalayim is not. And while we're at it let's get rid of Rishon le ZiYYon shall we? Where the hell did that double "Y" come from? And then he'll no doubt suggest to tear down the airport signs on road 1 and reinstate that ridiculous NATBAG.........
5. Good idea.....and was theirs
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (07.03.11)
There are no Arabic communities who want to have Hebrew names. The Palestinian Authority has ordered to take down signposts with Hebrew captions," he explained. It's a two-way street. Go for it, Katz
6. Use cyrilc instead!
Igor ,   Germany   (07.03.11)
There are more Russian than Arabic native speakers in Israel and they are certainly more loyal to the State!
7. Another "controversy"
Alf Red ,   Londonistan   (07.03.11)
I would rather exchange Zahalka and Tibi for Gil'ad Shalit (if HAMAS were in slightest interested). About the "controversial" proposal - when there are signposts in Hebrew in Ramalla, Amman, Cairo and Jedda, we can agree to have signposts in Arabic in Israel. Al Cuds-al shmuds-al any other... they better get used to names Jehuda, Shomron and Schem.
8. The anti-Torah govt is finally doing something correct
Chaim   (07.03.11)
But do the self-appointed anti-Jewish anti-Torah self-hating Jewish judges agree with this change?
9. Jerushalayim
norbus ,   Jerushalayim   (07.03.11)
Al Kuds is arabic acknowledging the holy jewish city. It was much later that Arabs, as they are want to do, tried to Islamise it and wrap it under their cloak. If they only knew what is right for them and written ,They'd dismantle the stones of Al Aksa and Dome of the rock, very carefully and rebuild them in Riadh , so that King Abdulla then becomes trustee to the 3 Holy places istead of two,and thus becomes Hiram as foreseen in the Torah , instead of Wali Al Haramain. Maybe then Muslims will look to their Holy places in Saudi where Islam started, and Hiram can make peace with Solomon. What's in it for Palestinians? Each family that carries a holy stone from Al Aksa , safely to Riyadh, becomes entitled to a new house and a Job, school places and healthcare in the new City of peace built around the New Orchardsns of Riadh
10. IT'S YERUSHALAYIM... NOT ALQUDS...
stude ham   (07.03.11)
none of that land belongs to or has ever belonged to the foreign arab invaders.
11. We don't all know places by the same name
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (07.03.11)
Many years ago, when a student in Jerusalem, I took a personal tiyul to the Safed-Tiberias area. I'd heard that Capernaum was a site worth visiting, but as I was hitching in the region people didn't know the name. "Kah-perr-naum" I enunciated in Hebrew. Still didn't recognize it. I decided to chance the ride. Then I passed a sign that read in Hebrew "K'far Nahum". That must be the place. It was (and worth it). Get real. It's not just cities and countries that are known by various names; so are various sites. Do you really want Christians looking for the Sea of Galilee to be told "never heard of it" while expecting them to know it as "yam hakinneret"?
12. I look forward this to be implement.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.03.11)
This is obviously the correct and precise thing to do. I am glad govt.has woke up in this important matter.
13. a correction
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (07.03.11)
Christians should use the place names that Jesus of Nazareth used rather than some mispronounced transliteration (Kfar Nahum instead of Capernaum) or colonial imports (Shchem instead of Nablus).
14. Mike @ 4, not to worry. People will learn fast.
leo ,   usa   (07.03.11)
Granted changing English "Jerusalem" into Hebrew "Yerushalaim", which is very close to Russian "Iyerusalim" does not yield political benefit, for this city is already being recognized for what it is. However, changing from "Al Quds" to "Yerushalaim" is totally different ball game and worthwhile in my opinion. Of cause, one must be prepared to have this signs vandalized at the beginning, but it is the price worth paying.
15. And maybe have street names also correct !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.03.11)
Not "Hertzel" or "Nordao" as we can see in my town .
16. yes change names. israeli arabs have civil rights
ralph   (07.03.11)
and obligations as does the state have civil obligations to israeli arabs as it does to israeli-jews. but not national rights. if arabs living in israel want national rights they have to leave israel.
17. Signs of Cities in Israel
ger ,   raanana, Israel   (07.03.11)
Does that mean we will finally get rid of Qasiriya, Petah Tiqwa, Qalqilya, and other ridiculously spelled signs?
18. oh really ? so what?
Salma ,   Palestine   (07.03.11)
till this day for us it is Palestine and not "Israel" and for us and for our children it is Jerusalem and it is Palestine to the last drop of our blood
19. Yes! With everything else happening, this is SO IMPORTANT!
Rafi ,   US   (07.03.11)
Yisrael Katz: I didn't think it was possible, but you've proven that there is actually somebody dumber than Avigdor Lieberman.
20. Yerushalayim is Jewish
JUDAH THE LION   (07.03.11)
Darling Salma, there is no such place on earth is called Palestine. In your Quran is there anything written by Palestine or Yerushalayim, but in the Quran it is written BNEI ISRAIL and YAHOOD. Give respect to your Quran a nd just go to your homeland called Arabia. JUDEA & SAMARIA AND THE WHOLE WEST BANK ARE JUDAH LAND
21. 70 names, including Zion and 'Ir ha-Qodesh: petty!
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (07.03.11)
Jerusalem has 70 names. Call it Zion! Call it 'Ir ha-Qodesh, which is the same name to al-Qods! Heck, call it Beyt al-Muqadis, another Arabic name for Jerusalem, that is based on the Beyt ha-Miqdash! All this seems so petty.
22. what's in a name?
Cynic #2   (07.03.11)
a rose by any other name smells as sweet. (from Romeo and Juliet) Changing the name is a sign of insecurity and panic and shows the racist nature of Israel. It was called Aelia Capitolina during Roman times. Colonizers normally change names which are changed back when the situation is reversed. Al-Quds will always be al-Quds or Beit al-Maqdes no matter what.
23. judising jeruselem i see
thor   (07.03.11)
24. Street names next
Deebo ,   Holon   (07.03.11)
Let's make sure we have some consistency in that too. I mean רח׳ פינס in Tel Aviv... Let's be honest it not spelled Pines.
25. #18, Salma
Reader   (07.03.11)
Salma, are you Christian?
26. Good. Full civil rights 4 all; 1 NATIONALISM- Jewish
6 million ,   Israel   (07.04.11)
If they dont like it they can follow in mohammeds footsteps and reconquer the 57 nations that now make up the arab world and muslim non arab world..................................... the 1 Jewish nationalism is here to stay, 4000 years and stronger then ever.
27. Controversy?
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (07.04.11)
Israel is a jewish country, im plementation of this proposal is long overdue!
28. YESHUALAYIN
YESHUALAYIN ,   YESHUALAYIN   (07.04.11)
al quds? yerushalayim? jerusalem? zion? the old city? adonai said he will put his name over the holy city to be called with a new name, his holy name forever, hashem promised to avraham and david his seed over there, the holy of holiest in ancient times were only to the high priest but in the new times everyone has the right to know him and to enter into his holy temple, there is no more stone temple after two thousands years and the spirit temple travel all around the world to bring salvation to all the nations which comes there searching for the ways of him and at the end of times the temple is returning home, the seed the word was spreading everywhere and it is time to come home because the tree of life is rising,it is time to take the sword of fire which is the word of truth to separate emet from sheker, adonai tzvaot was yehudin, lived as yehudin, died as yehudin and resurrected as yehudin but in babylon and babel it was growing with so much confusion and emet word is clear as water because it is the torah itself the commandments and its fulfillment, the protection and the shield of innocence, the famous and well known kingdom of heaven over the earth revealed, the parables finally become true as yeshua who is the truth himself,AMEN
29. to Salma 18
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (07.04.11)
But in the meantime you welcome all the welfare that Israel gives you.Withot Israel/Us help you are a nothing people. You are the biggest welfare state in the world-your wealthy Arab brothers can't be bothered to help you pay salaries to your "public servants"again.Boy ,you sure are loved by your Arab neighbors.NOT.
30. #18 Salma, for my part
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (07.04.11)
For my part you can call it the “Valley of The Moon” The simple fact is there never was a Palestine, Palestinian Government or Palestinian rulers, no coins, no currency no memorabilia, no nothing, to prove there was a functioning Palestine I've asked you time and again to prove they ever existed, you refuse to respond because you know you can't come up with any fact to substantiate there ever was a Palestine Once more I challenge you to prove there ever was a Palestine “Last drop of blood”, the choice & blood are yours But, let’s not kid ourselves, you’re nowhere near the fighting, since you’re not in your fictional land of Palestine
