4. Dont leave Gilad Shalit behind !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (07.04.11)
This current Israeli leadership is a shame, because of all causes and reasons they have to come for him, even shoting of rockets against Israel. Arn.Sweden.

As one of the heros of our country, your words carry weight - I hadn't thought of the disabled as hostagest. Thank you for highlighting this.

7. would we do it today....
trevor ,   modiin   (07.04.11)
if Entebbe happened today...would we do what we did 35 years ago. Would we have the courage, the support of our country and not worry about what the world thinks??? Wonder what Gilad Shalits answer would be would say...
8. #6 Yes, I'm Salma : )

How can I help You , Jonathan ?
9. a moving story... thanks Doron. Meanwhile...
Rafi ,   US   (07.04.11)
... enough already with G. Shalit. The situations are NOT analogous: Shalit is a soldier; Entebbe hostages were civilians and airplane passengers. Various Israeli govts have already invested enormous effort in getting Shalit back. But thank goodness no murderers have been freed so far in the process. Please keep it that way.
10. #1 Observer...of what?
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.04.11)
Mazel Tov! You have reached a pinnacle of obsurdity! Things you already know: 1. They did not know of Dora Bloch's removal by the Ugandans to a hospital off-airport. 2. They did it to counter a terrorist attack on unarmed civilian passengers; an illegal act no matter what national or international law you look at. 3. It was not 'staged'. It was accomplished after a lot of work: long hours, much discussion, and practice, practice, practice. 4. There was no "US-Palestinians approach".

23. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.05.11)
Dora Bloch (z.l.) was murdered by the Ugandans because Israel made Idi Amin a laughingstock on the international stage. Permit me to remind you as well that 70 of the 105Jewish hostages carried United States passports. And a small grateful "merci beaucoup" to the Air France pilots and crew who refused to leave Entebbe even though they could have. A whole flock of nuns could have stayed behind, but chose to depart. That's worth remembering, too.
24. To: Rafi at No. 9
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.05.11)
That's not quite accurate. On two previous occasions, Israel set free hundreds of vile ersatz "Palestinian" terrorists and scum. On each occasion, Hamas reneged on the deal. Gee, what a surprise. Apart from the fact that we have no concrete evidence that Gilad Shalit is even alive, I think we must accustom ourselves to the fact that he will never be repatriated. He is Hamas' ace in the hole, and the only reason that Gaza has not been razed to the ground. At some point, we will have to come to grips with the fact that unless we find him and bring him home, Gilad Shalit is lost to us. At that point, nothing will save Gaza. Nothing.

why are you so quiet now
26. agent provocateur
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (07.05.11)
Salma is nothing but an agent provocateur. She doesn't deliver anything meaningful. She is only disturbing the talkbacks pulling the focus away from the real topic.
27. Gen. Doron Almog - I agree.
bob kirk ,   las vegas USA   (07.05.11)
Its very good and necessary to remember the Entebbe hijack and rescue and all the brave soldiers and airmen who carried out the daring rescue - I remember listening to the radio for news. I was living in Cakgary Canada then and the Calgary Herald ran an editorial attacking Israel for 'violating Uganda's sovreignty ' by flying in without the permission of dictator Idi Amin who supported the Palestinian terrorists! I wrote a letter to the editor (which they published) criticising the editorial and saying that if Canadians were hijacked then Canadians would support Canada doing the same if it were possible. Hopefully all airlines have tightened their security since then. As for Eran Doron and others like him, I agree we must not forget them even though we don't see them so often. Society must make it a priority to help those who cannot help themselves because of birth defects, just as we educate and help all other children.
28. To Sarah B. USA
bob kirk ,   las vegas USA   (07.05.11)
Dear Sarah, some good earlier points but about Gilad you should not give up hope, neither his family nor most of us will do that. Yes, It is extremely difficult but if hamas don't trade Gilad for pisoners then they have ganed nothing except making Israelis and others suffer of course but also they make their own people, who know a deal has been offered for years, very angry and that is what hamas have to worry about th emost. As for your delusions about 'razing Gaza' - Israel does not do that kind of thing as a brief review of Israel's wars will show you.

Sir, I am impressed by your moving story - Bravery Award to you as a fantastic father, that has COMPASSION. As a buddhist I am very impressed. Thanky you and SHALOM. Compassion and "hearing the voices of the suffering ones" is the only way towards peace... Thank you, you are great!
30. Thanks for the article, Mr. Almog.
