5. if rabbi shapira will replace barak
cohen, ,   tel-aviv   (07.05.11)
or in other words- when radical ortodox jews will be the ones who lead the IDF there will be no more israel. end of point. israel will completely loose the support it gets from america and other western states and will find itself in the position n.korea is today. those here who supports this rabbi eager to see an ayatollah iranian style regim taking place in israel. once more- such a scenario will defiantly mark the end of modern state of israel. you have been warned...
6. It's time for Communist Israel's KGB to arrest ALL Rabbis
(07.05.11)
for being racists 1) for not permitting Jews to marry goyim 2) for daily thanking G-d for not being created as a goy 3) for praying to G-d to unleash His wrath on goyim 4) for thanking G-d for being the chosen one and His beloved children
7. The Psalms 83 War
D. Digger ,   Pinellas Park, U.S.A   (07.05.11)
This war will destroy many of Israel's enemies from the scene. Some believe it could be triggered by the UN's September vote of whether they recognize a state (Palestine) for the Muslims.
8. Israel is becoming a very sick society
Concerned ,   Jerusalem   (07.05.11)
9. Collateral casualties in war
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (07.05.11)
There will always be collateral casualties in war, and there is a section in hilchos milchamah on the extent to which collateral casualties should be allowed. Halachah does not say go out and murder people at random. Even the so-called "International Law" acknowledges that collateral casualties will occur during warfare. So what is the big freaking deal?
10. May we never forget..
James ,   Dallas, TX   (07.05.11)
May we never forget that once we become just like our enemies, there is no special place for Israel - its just another country like say for example, Sudan and Yemen.
11. Blood libel
mea   (07.05.11)
This "rabbi" (learned teacher? no.) and his publisher can congratulate themselves for giving clear profound support for 6 centuries of blood libel claims. The creeps on internet boiler rooms are eating this shit up--a Jew, a RABBI Jew, declaring it alright to kill goy children. What a total A#1. The religious are ruining Israel.
12. If trash like Zoabi is allowed NOT only
svietka from shomron   (07.05.11)
to voice her opinion but to PARTICIPATE in anti-isr activities such as flotila and to spew her hate from the podium of knesset then this rabbi(whether or not u agree with his views) has EXACTLY same right as her to write and say what he thinks. Hypocrocy of the "lawmakers" is sickening
13. R. Shapira Is Normal / Jewish Libs Suffering Mental Disorder
RightJew ,   New York, NY   (07.05.11)
Everything Rabbi Shapira SHLITAH is teaching here is normal and reasonable considering that Islamo-Nazis are waging a racist war of extermination against innocent Jews. The Islamo-Nazi enemy continually boasts how their children are being trained for jihad against the Jews. Self preservation & self defense against genocidal Islamo-Nazis of any age is NOT racism or extremism whatsoever. Do Jewish liberals ever denounce America as racist for slaughtering hundreds of thousands of German civilians during WWII bombing raids?
14. shallow reporting.
tom ,   toronto, canada   (07.05.11)
there is an art to reporting what a person says, and explaining it in a way that's readable and clear. from reading this story, however, i feel that i have not gained ANY understanding of rabbi shapira or his book. the reporter doesn't even seem to care enough to reread the piece and correct a few very obvious typos.
15. How about writing a book making gefilte fish
Charles   (07.05.11)
Then, you worthless rebbe shapira, we should kill all muslim children,as they grow up they will kill Jews. You and your followers are sick, a terminal malady. You and your kind represent all that's vile among jews, and we question why we are despised, hated --- very easy with your type around. You have no regrets about the book; russians/french,arabs have no regrets about " protocol of the elders of zion"; Mao had no regret about his " little red book "; Hitler had no regrets about " Mine Kampf ". One main force drove all these madmen, Control, elimination of the recalcitrant. Power.
16. @ 8
(07.05.11)
wishing you a speedy recovery from all the hatred you have
17. @ concerned jerusalem
(07.05.11)
go to the western wall and find your lost soul and heal it. learn about your past and heritage if you are really a jew.
18. the sick thing is
(07.05.11)
not honoring rabbanim!
19. "purity of arms" is literally killing us
Patriot ,   Israel   (07.05.11)
The IDF's "purity of arms" doctrine is responsible for many Jewish soldiers' deaths - such as the the 23 killed in Jeneen under PM Sharon when they entered a booby-trapped building looking for terrorists. The building could have been bombed from the air with the resulting "collateral damage". Kol Hakavod to Rabbi Shapira - the Torah challenge to "purity of arms" is long overdue
20. #5 You're totally wrong
C.C.   (07.05.11)
If G-d will give religious Torah Jews the leadership in Israel – hopefully in the very near future – there will finally be peace. The Arabs and the anti-Semites in the world are against the secular Zionist state. They all maintain that Jews have no right to the state if it's run like other non-Jewish countries in the world. AND THEY'RE RIGHT!
21. rabibi Shapira
MKL ,   USA   (07.05.11)
I have a question. Has rabbi Yitzhak Shapira ever served in the IDF for the defense of Israel or is he one of those that believes that he is above having to serve for the country and that others have to work and risk their lives for him?
22. The Double Standard on the Other Side
Frankie Littlehammer ,   New Herstal, TX, USA   (07.05.11)
What Rabbi Shapira says is exactly the attitude of the Palestinian terrorists and their friends. In an article about the return of the bodies of terrorists who had targeted and killed women, children and other civilians, Salma called the terrorists 'heroes,' but when civilians get killed by the IDF because terrorists use them as human shields, then they call it called a war crime.
23. King's Torah
Rochel ,   Los Angeles, USA   (07.05.11)
Whether I agree with R. Shapira or not, I strongly defend his right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
24. one thing leads to another
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (07.05.11)
The question is: Where is the line between murder and killing in a war? If I am considering "normal" life it's absolutely clear: "Stay away from this line!" But what if we are at war? How can I ever find peace, if I, as a soldier must assume, that I may have killed a child? I do not believe, that it is acceptable or in any way permissible to kill a child in the way, that I pull the trigger of a gun, accepting the possibility, that I may kill one of the children in front of me. It is not acceptable that I deliberately target a school. I even believe, that it is forbidden to take out a training camp where child-soldiers are trained. These children are the victims and not the delinquents!!! In such a situation, the duty of honest soldiers would be to seize all the children and transfer them to the united nations. Take care, that they receive a decent childhood! I appreciate the fact, that IDF is deploying more and more Rabbis. The troops need them! Maybe if it's only to to talk after a day of fight. I doubt that Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira has served in the IDF and really made up his mind what he would do, carrying a gun, being ordered to take out a group of children! Note: I served in the German armed forces.
25. There is no difference with international law
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.05.11)
The Geneva Convention states the exact same thing. If a combatant hides among civilians then the area loses it's protected status and any and all casualties that are caused are the fault of the combatants, not those fighting them. There is absolutely nothing controversial about the book. This is exactly how every other democracy in the world works.
26. #8, #24, #9
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.05.11)
#8,#24 and others: I agree. #24 you put it very well. #9: The "big freaking deal" (aka difference) is intent.
27. #20
Alice ,   Montreal, Canada   (07.05.11)
Well said. May it be very , very soon. So much hate for the Religious people from the secular. Can"t believe it.
28. Need to know the whole story
Berel ,   Yehud   (07.06.11)
Based previous headlines I was under the impression that another whacko was using the Halacha to compel Jews to kill goyim as the Koran does n
29. I support him
just a soldier ,   haifa   (07.06.11)
30. The allies in WW2 acted this way
Jack ,   Israel   (07.06.11)
The allies carpet bombed Dresden and Hamberg in WW2 killing countless German civilians. They did it to break the back of the German people and bring that horrendous war to an end. The rabbis ideas are not new.
