1. CRAZY LOGIC
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (07.10.11)
I like the way the Lebanese official (Gebran Bassil) quickly glossed over this phrase, and I quote: "Lebanon has drawn its maritime borders based on the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Israel has yet to sign it and must respect international law by acceding to the Convention," Again we have 6 words: "Israel has yet to sign it", Whoops!!! Israel is NOT a signatory to that International agreement (UNCLOS). So how can Israel be bound by it? How did Bassil phrase it "Israel has yet to sign it". Yet Bassil still insists Israel "must respect International Law by acceding to the Convention". REALLY? Why "must" Israel do that? Israel has not signed it? Typical Arab logic, they "Cherry Pick" what Laws others "must" accede to for their benefit. Sorry boys it doesn't work that way.
2. Please Ynet can we have some maps?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (07.10.11)
3. anyone has a map?
Observer ,   USA   (07.10.11)
I would like to see this on a map, and specifically which areas are the dispute before we make any judgements.
4. There's a Lebanese government?
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (07.10.11)
What has Hizb'allah to say about that?
5. Just try to assert your "rights", Lebanon.
Vlad   (07.10.11)
I can't wait to see your puny military take on the IDF.
6. i guess it's......WAR!!
david ,   uk   (07.10.11)
7. Most of Lebanon belongs to Israel, get over it.

8.  Lebanon: We won't forfeit maritime rights News agencies
Avi ,   NY US   (07.10.11)
For a insignificant tiny country, Lebanon sure has a big ego. You continue with your threats Israel will turn you into another Atlantis
9. If the"palestinians" became real, Lebanon can claim too!
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.10.11)
10. Way to Go
Aryeh ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.10.11)
Considering that we are still at war with Lebanon and that the original state went as far as the Litani River, Israel should then tell Lebanon that as far as it is concered, we still claim the Litani as our border and will be happy to draw the maritime border up by another 15 km the next time you open your silly mouths.
11. We found it but typical Arabs, they want it!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (07.10.11)
Whether it is wanting Israel from Metullah to Eilat or colonizing Europe they only know how to take and destroy!
12. No.15 like the idea. The problem 48 war with Lebanon was not
John Phee ,   Sydney, AUSTRALIA   (07.10.11)
finished properly. Israel should have kept all the territory until a peace settlement & recognised borders.
13. Threat from a failed state is meaningless
BH ,   Iowa   (07.11.11)
14. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.11.11)
You cannot find a map online? Doesn't say much for you .....
15. Re Lebanese Claims
Marty ,   Toronto Canada   (07.11.11)
Earlier this year the Lebanese were whining about Israel stealing hummus the "national Lebanese dish". Now they are whining about Israel stealing their oil and gas. Had oil been discovered on Hayarkon in Tel Aviv - no doubt they'd be saying that it's theirs too.
16. Agressive talkbacks
Harmen ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (07.11.11)
My my, I am taken aback by all the agression in the talkbacks ... Nr 5: "can't wait to see your puny military take on the IDF. " Nr 6: "I guess it's ... War!!" Nr 7: "Most of Lebanon belongs to Israel, get over it." Nr 8: "You continue with your threats Israel will turn you into another Atlantis" Nr 10: "[Israel] will be happy to draw the maritime border up by another 15 km the next time you open your silly mouths." Nr 11: "[Arabs] only know how to take and destroy!" Nr 12: "Israel should have kept all the territory until a peace settlement & recognised borders." People, are you not a little, tiny bit aggressive and unreasonable here? First see what their claim is based on, before making such statements.
17. #16..Your criticism is aggressive, arrogant, unreasonable
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (07.11.11)
18. Lebanon=Hezbollahtan
Brod ,   USA   (07.11.11)
It is Hezbollahtan that should shut up. They have NO business usurping Israel's territory. Should Lebanon threaten Israel on this, Israel should preempt them within a one day operation.
19. #16 If you think that's bad....
Phil ,   Ireland   (07.11.11)
Go read some of the pro-Palestinian websites for their comments. Their claim is based on the fact that Hezbollah have huge influence over Lebanon and are backed by Iran. By your comment, it would seem that you are almost unaware of even recent history of Israel-Lebanon relations.
20. Gas Fields, Maritime Borders and Israeli Greed
Marcus Silverman   (07.11.11)
Looks like Israel is not content with stealing other peoples land and water, now they want to steal their gas as well. The Lebanese maritime borders have been ratified by the Americans, so the Israelis can forget about their claim to Lebanese gas - unless maybe AIPAC can persuade Obama to veto the Lebanese claim in the security council
21. #16..Harmen
Malone ,   Hfx   (07.11.11)
Would you advise throwing a few tulips their way..love and all that stuff...to appease your dainty views?
22. It's not aggression. It's a defense of Israel's rights.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (07.11.11)
Harmen in Leiden is "taken aback by all the aggression in the talkbacks. Why is he not similarly taken aback by Lebanon's posturing and threats? Or is Israel just to remain silent? Those of us with a historic bent are at least cognizant of centuries of Islamic and Arab aggression and conquest. They saw, for example, the riches of India and decided it was to be theirs. Enough is enough. Israel will not sit silent when Lebanon or anyone else lays claim on what is not theirs. Israel has years of international law and precedent on their side. Lebanon has nothing but envy.
23. It's no surprise Ynet hid the map!!!
Chris.B ,   Australia   (07.11.11)
Stealing land, water, marintime borders and natural resources. Israels doing well. To think bankrupt Greece is in full compliance with Israel what a strong negotiating position they must be in. If Israel foolishly builds any refineries they will be C807 and P800 fodder.
24. #11- Arabs weren't interested in parts of Israel either...
William ,   Israel   (07.11.11)
until the Jews made the deserts bloom. Suddenly, it became every Arabs homeland, huh?
25. Lebanon's Borders
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (07.11.11)
When Hezbollah started the last war by firing rockets at our towns, villages & cities, where was the concern for Borders ? Nor was she showing any sort of a concern, when her citizens attempted to force their way into Israel last Nakba day The most important thing we have to realize, that it isn't Lebanon talking, they're merely a puppet saying what Iran tells them to say Lebanon of the old days is just like the movie title "Gone with the wind" Their as independent as my dog who is a leash that I hold
26. Beware the rubber dingys from Hezbollanon
EZ ,   USA   (07.11.11)
As if Hezbollanon has any say at the UN: secondly: I highly doubt the legal experts of the now defunct Lebanon could match those in Israel on maritime proceedures and legalities (please see the LEGAL NAVAL BLOCKADE OF GAZA). Just because you filed it with the UN doesn't mean it's accepted! LOL! Just another silly "country".
27. they never cared about water teritory untill
ghostq   (07.11.11)
Israel have foud natural Gas, gready I supose, for that they r willing make lots of splash for nothing, forign companies can drill anywhere they want in the open sea, many Europeen companies drill in Latin amerika without state agreement since they research and reasources for any drill belong to the companies, as for the Israeli Gas sites, it's Amerikan company with Israeli investors meaning any missap in the area the USA will have to put her foot down.
28. what is the point of belguim or lebanon??
jack   (07.11.11)
29. Lebanon manufactures mutually contradictory borders to suit
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (07.11.11)
Their borders with Cyprus contradict these ones. Hezballastan needs all the distractions it can get
30. @ No. 16
Vlad   (07.11.11)
Israel and Cyprus came to an agreement on martitime borders. Israel worked with international law experts and Cypriot government experts to delineate the boundaries. Lebanon's claims not only violate this, but also violate a previous maritime border agreement between Lebanon and Cyprus. Bottom line: Lebanon has no legitimate territorial claim to these waters. And wanting energy money really badly does not count under international law.
